Noot is really solidifying his spot as the starting RF. Time to give him a shot batting first or second.
August 20, 2022 at 9:21 pm #196596Has Woodford pitched since Denver?? He was the only pitcher we used that looked good in that game I saw.
August 20, 2022 at 9:24 pm #196597Helsley looks a lot different out of uniform. Don’t think I would recognize him on the street.
August 20, 2022 at 9:25 pm #196598Arenado with yet another great play. Goldy as well.
August 20, 2022 at 9:26 pm #196599Wow, unbelievable play on both ends!
August 20, 2022 at 9:27 pm #196600What a comfy feeling whenever Neil Pallante enters a ballgame. And looking at Albert in the dugout…..boy is he large.,…I know he’s playing large, but physically he’s looking pretty beefy…..he just may tip the scales around 280…..but who cares with the way he’s playing…..he could check in at 380 lbs. right now and I would throw another plate of Rat’s and Bling’s catfish fiddlers in front of him.
August 20, 2022 at 9:29 pm #196601I think Arenado told Goldy “thanks for making me look good”, on that dig at first.
This club has been entertaining tonight.
August 20, 2022 at 9:32 pm #196602If O’Neill can get it going and give us a third masher, it would be huge. Couple of hits tonight. I think he has a “Pujols Special” coming up soon – a two-homer game.
August 20, 2022 at 9:35 pm #196603Oh man, I’m was laughing like a guy at a Don Rickles roast!
Varsho did a one-man Laurel and Hardy act on that play.
August 20, 2022 at 9:36 pm #196604Top of 7. Chris Devenski on for AZ.
O’Neill blisters a shot past Alcantara at 3rd base and out into left field and by the time the ball is picked up and thrown back in, Tyler will have himself a leadoff double.
Goldy flies out to Varsho in short right field.
O’Neill steals 3rd base and that will bring the infielders in.
Arenado hits it in the air to right….Varsho is sizing matters up as he awaits the catch and here’s the throw home…. O’Neill beats the throw and it’s 8-4 Cards.
Albert grounds it wide of 3rd and out into left field for another hit.
Edman strikes out swinging.
Cards 8
Diamondbacks 4August 20, 2022 at 9:38 pm #196605What can you say about Albert that has not already been spoken. Four for four, two homers. Sheesh…
August 20, 2022 at 9:40 pm #196606Ollie is going to be tempted to play Albert everyday now. They should stick with the plan of playing him against lefties. It is working.
August 20, 2022 at 9:42 pm #196607Well said Scotty…..but boy I sure could understand the temptation to play Albert every day right now.
August 20, 2022 at 9:44 pm #196608Keeping Albert in versus lefties, and as a potential bat off the bench when a righty starts is the way to go.
Gotta give Gorman and Donovan most of the work when a righty starts. But as we get to September, if we have all but clinched the division I could see Albert in there more, especially if he is around 695-696.
August 20, 2022 at 9:45 pm #196609Maybe Albert could give switch hitting a crack so they’d feel better about letting him play every day.
August 20, 2022 at 9:46 pm #196610Boy the on field play is sure mundane and boring when Neil Pallante is pitching these days…..and isn’t that a thing of beauty.
Not a bad idea with the Albert learning to hit from the left side too, Euro Dandy.
August 20, 2022 at 9:48 pm #196611Everytime pallante pitches well in relief, marmol does a Matheny, and pulls hi for another that’s worse, just saying
August 20, 2022 at 9:49 pm #196612Dave McKay still coaching. He has done that a long time.
August 20, 2022 at 9:51 pm #196613Nice to be able to have Pallante in the pen. Now get Woody in there to pitch the eighth and ninth and you have a win. But my fear is we see Gallegos at some point and will still win, but 8-6 rather than 8-4.

ParticipantWell giving pujols limited starts had been fine. Gives him rest and can match him up more with pinch hits. But would I like to see him more vs right handers depending on pitcher as long as he’s swinging this hot. Pujols once he gets going, he stays going. Not worried about Gorman. Pujols at 42 is swinging better than Gorman will probably ever swing.
August 20, 2022 at 9:53 pm #196615I don’t know about that Willie. The ball really jumps off Gorman’s bat. Yeah, Albert is a Hall of Famer and Gorman has not done anything yet. But he has explosive power.

ParticipantFar as Woodford, once again he’s been relegated down the chain through no fault of his own. But you never know, maybe we will get a sighting.
August 20, 2022 at 9:56 pm #196617Nootbaar no problem with lefties tonight
August 20, 2022 at 9:57 pm #196618Top of 8. Joe Mantiply center stage for AZ
DeJong flies out to McCarthy in left.
Knizner grounds it to Perdomo at short and that’s 2 away here in the Redbird 8th.
Nooty grounds it the other way and out into left field for a base hit.
Carlson lines a single to center with Nooty scooting around to 3rd base.
O’Neill could not check his swing and that’ll do it for St. Louis here in the top of the 8th.
Cards 8
AZ 4August 20, 2022 at 9:57 pm #196619I think DeJong is back into thinking too much. He is also back to trying to pull everything. When he first came back up from Memphis, he seemed to be taking the ball to the opposite field when he needed to. This last AB he takes a pitch on the outside edge (or maybe wider) and pulls it to LF.
