Anything Keith Law says I believe the opposite.

With good command he could be fast riser.

The 2 Clemson recruits (Taylor and Chandler) not going in the first 29 is a bit of a surprise, also Madden not going in the first 29

Them not going in the first probably means they are going to school.

    Good call Pugs.

I have been told that the Cardinals wanted Bubba Chandler but they couldn’t get in a reasonable conversation with the money.

I think the Cards did well with the college pitcher pick. I’m thinking that the next few rounds should also be college players… the organization’s depth chart needs a lot of help because some of the highly-regarded prospects have stalled this season. The rise of infielders such as Perez-Donovan-Mendoza will surely take some pressure off of the middle infield void. MNunez is picking up at AA and could move up quickly.

In general here has been a ton of disappointment among the pitching prospects from AAA down to Palm Beach.

Hopefully some of the class of ’21 will find themselves on the existing full-season rosters.

It is obvious that our current status of leading MLB in walks and hit batters is an issue with the front office.

“He has a great feel for and command of the zone,” Flores said.

“Walking is not competing,” he proclaimed. McGreevy noted it is better to give up a hit than a walk.

Also in that interview, McGreevy was quoted as saying “I just hate walks with a passion”.

Cardinals take Baez, Joshua Dexter School (MA) Outfielder. MLB ranked him 24th and we got him at 54. Sounds like a guy that has lot of power, but swings for fences to much. I’ll take him at #54.

Baseball America has McCreevy at 16 and Baez at 31.

    McGreevy: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 60 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 70
    Baez: Hit: 45 | Power: 70 | Run: 45 | Field: 55 | Arm: 70

Interesting that BA likes his CB much better than MLB.com

Seems like people like the bat, but sketchy in the OF with fringe arm strength. BA’s write up was a little less flattering than MLB.com. Hit well in the wood bat leagues, which the Cardinals seem to love

    BA: (108) Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 40 | Field: 40 | Arm: 45 | Overall: 45
    MLB: (103) Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Run: 45 | Field: 50 | Arm: 45 | Overall: 45

Looks like big power is the watch word for these last two picks. Both look to be OF prospects.

Holgate’s writeup sounds a bit like Burleson’s from last year, which didn’t excite me. But he has looked like a pretty good pick so far.

Burleson has been a great pick so far. If Holgate is like him then I am all in.

If Baez is another Walker I am all in for that too.

What is the comp for McGreevy? Dakota Hudson?

    McGreevy – 9-2/2.92ERA/101.2IP/109H/115K/11W
    Baez – high school
Holgate – .351/.421/.576/.997/11HR/56RBI (Really like him)
Love – 10-4/3.71ERA/1.15WHIP/102IP/85H/129K/32W Like him too)

Very good start to the draft IMHO. Baez is a huge HS kid. Just hope he’s more like Walker than like Fletcher. These NE high schoolers worry me. Not enough to go on because of the weather. I played college ball in the NE.

Probably a money saving pick. BA has him at 424:

    Zane Mills
    Washington State RHP
    Notes:
    Ht: 6-4 | Wt: 215 | B-T: R-R
    Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
    Age At Draft: 22.2

Here are the highlights from BA:
    -Undrafted out of high school
-Struggled in his first season at Washington State posting a 2-4, 5.25 mark with 40 strikeouts and 21 walks in 36 innings,
-2020 season and went 3-0, 0.58 in seven appearances (six starts) in the Northwoods League that summer. This season, Mills pitched well at times, with a 5-5, 4.15 mark, 83 strikeouts and 22 walks in 80.1 innings despite not having a dominant arsenal.
-At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, Mills has good size on the mound has pitchability and polish.
-3 pitch mix fastball that sits 88-92 mph, a slider, and a changeup.
-Thanks to his feel and command of his arsenal, Mills should be able to start at the next level.

    Graceffo –

    At Villanova this season –

    7-2
    1.54 ERA
    0.96 WHIP
    82 IP
    66 H
    86 K
    13 W
    .221 BAA

I like this pick better than Mills. Although Gordon didn’t face the best competition, those numbers are very nice.

Really like the Antico pick. He really picked it up last part of the season.

    Ruiz –

11 Games started for Long Beach State
    5-1
    3.75 ERA
    1.34 WHIP
    57.2 IP
    54 H
    59 K
    23 W
    .251 BAA

    Fair.

Now, Antico is a really interesting pick.

    .273/.436/.489/.925/10HR/47 RBI
But the most intriguing stat is that he stole 41 bases out of 46 attempts. That’s impressive.

Now, someone please help me with the 9th round pick, Trent Baker from Angelo State.

    Games started – 17
    13-1
    ERA – 2.11
    WHIP – 1.013
    IP – 106.2
    H – 90
    K – 120
    W – 18

    120 Ks and 18 BBs?

Why was he still there in the 9th round? Level of competition?
