ParticipantUnder the radar signing – Pitcher Ryan Loutos from Washington University in St. Louis. All World Division 3 talent. Watch out for him. His stats are outstanding.
Could surprise.July 16, 2021 at 6:13 am #166588Its hard to know what to make of the two NDFAs since they faced lesser competition. But what they did do was stand out amongst their peers. I can’t help but think the catcher, Strauss, probably lives next door to somebody in Wildwood. Take the opportunity and run with it kid, good luck.

ParticipantRyan Loutos fits the physical profile. He’s 6’5”, 225 lbs. Here are his 2021 stats –
11-1
1.33 ERA
0.824 WHIP
94.2 IP
66 H
116 K
12 WHow’s that for a K/W ratio? May be D-3, but it will be interesting to see how he does.
July 16, 2021 at 9:38 am #166601Cranny likes this Loutos kid. Looking at that name, one can readily spell “St Lou”, just kick out the extra “o”. It’ll be fun keeping an eye on this possible phenom.
July 16, 2021 at 9:45 am #166603Loutos undoubtedly can put it over the plate and that seems to be what we are going after, for good reason. Whether he can miss more advanced bats is what we will be finding out.
The catcher Strauss can hit the kind of pitching he has seen, but he hasn’t seen much, relatively. I can’t find out anything about his defense or arm.
I agree it will be fun to see what happens.

Sounds like most MLBers now days.

cardsfan64ParticipantWhere did you find all that info, BlackHills? Thanks for posting it and please update as needed!

ParticipantWow. Antico, Baker, and Tovalin are real bargains. And all very talented.
July 17, 2021 at 10:24 am #166710The signing bonuses come from MLB.com’s draft tracker. Far right column.
Key takeaway at this point is that all the early signees are under slot.
July 17, 2021 at 12:12 pm #166717It sounds like McGreevy signed for under slot but we don’t know by how much yet.
Slot for #Cardinals 18th pick was $3,481,300. Team’s agreement finalized today with RHP McGreevy is for more than that pick got in 2020 but less than this year’s slot to allow club to go over slot and aggressively pursue another pick (so … Baez).

July 18, 2021 at 12:25 pm #166827Brian and Blake’s draft analysis is top notch but I thought I would throw VEB’s take into the mix also. It is a reminder to me that MLB drafting often times is as much about the pool slots as it is about the talent of the player. It appears the Cards have put most of their eggs in the Baez basket. A rather risky strategy.

July 18, 2021 at 10:28 pm #166879So, McGreevy signed for $2.75 million. That means the Cardinals have roughly $1.7 million to sign Baez and Willis
July 18, 2021 at 11:04 pm #166881Will there be enough$$$ to sign all 21 picks?
July 19, 2021 at 7:43 am #166888bccran
ParticipantCollegians Holgate, Love, and Graceffo shouldn’t be a problem.
July 19, 2021 at 8:47 am #166894According to VEB the Cardinals basically drafted most of their players higher than they were expected so they would have enough money for Baez. That is probably an oversimplification but if true it seems risky to me. Baez had better turn out to be a productive player.
July 19, 2021 at 9:11 am #166895He will be the next next Pujols or Taveras. That is guaranteed.
July 19, 2021 at 10:24 am #166896The Cardinals added three more signings today, increasing their total to 11 of 21:
Graceffo 5th
Cornwell 15th
Marrero 18thJuly 19, 2021 at 12:03 pm #166903bccran
ParticipantGood news about Graceffo. He’s got some talent. Just don’t know if he can miss some more advanced bats from bigger programs.
July 19, 2021 at 3:07 pm #166910Welcome to the Cardinals, Joshua Báez! pic.twitter.com/hyVxZIMz2n

July 19, 2021 at 3:43 pm #166916Wrapping up today’s minor league news.
July 19, 2021 at 4:11 pm #166920This is $911,500 over slot.
2nd-rder Joshua Baez signs w/@Cardinals for $2.25 million (pick 54 value = $1,338,500). Massachusetts HS OF has some of best upside in @MLBDraft, huge raw power, big arm strength, solid speed. Vanderbilt recruit.

July 19, 2021 at 5:09 pm #166926Graceffo signed $150k overslot
July 19, 2021 at 6:34 pm #1669401982 willie
ParticipantI don’t know. Seems like they overpaid Baez to keep him from going to college. Not a big fan of drafting high school players. Maybe I can find his stats but high school numbers are always high.
