It seems like Mendoza might be a good hitter, with not much power. Reports are he is is a good fielder as well.
His K of Gomes was on a nasty 87 mph slider. He’s now faced only 9 in his first three innings. The fastball is showing at 95 on the gun.
Carlos finishes 5 innings with 3 hits allowed, no walks and 2 Ks. Very solid. Hopefully this is the start of a big year for him.

So I’ll do you a favor and take the bait. Why on earth Schrock?I watched every home game he played in college at Carolina and he was my favorite player. I also know his Dad.
So now we know why Mr Edman likes Schrock, but is there a reason for liking Carlson other than him looking like a very good prospect?

I was at the game tonight. Carlson was impressive, but clearly the most polished professional hitter in the lineup was Ravelo. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t make the 26 man.
bccran, I like Ravelo a lot too. I thought he should have gotten a few more ABs late last season. I liked his approach then and again this year. If what we’re thinking works out, it’ll make the JMart trade look like a no-brainer.
What is your case for Ravelo over Dean? A few Spring training ab’s?
Both poor defensively though I get the impression in the OF that Ravelo is worse. Dean certainly has more OF experience.

Dean has been much better at AAA. And at a younger age.
Dean’s Zips projection is slightly better.

Brebbia was fine a couple days ago when I saw him. I like Oviedo a lot.
Oviedo may be the only player from our Int’l haul in 2016 to end up making an impact for the team, although I suppose Arozarena is partially (or mostly) responsible for getting Liberatore. The rest have really fallen off (Soler, both Sotos, both Garcias, Machado, Pena)

Kind of strange how badly that class turned out and how much it handcuffed us for the two years after. Meanwhile, the 2016 draft is looking fantastic.
Big outing for Gant today. He makes the team either way, but he needs to pitch well to hang in the starting competition.

Yadi puts the team in an odd position, lineup-wise. He’s not enough of an on base guy to high up in the lineup, and he’s got just enough contact ability that you don’t want him near the pitcher due to his poor running skills. He doesn’t have enough power for the 3-4-5. Ideally he’s a 6 or 7 hole hitter. Hopefully O’Neill and Dejong can be the 4-5 guys.
