The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was winless in three Monday games. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, FCL SP Bernard Mack, allowed just one hit across four one-run innings with six strikeouts. Other standouts include Johnfrank Salazar, Daniel Rojas and Juan Garcia. We also set up the upcoming series for the week.

Memphis Redbirds (off-day)
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds were off Monday, as they prepare for a six-game series with the Charlotte Knights at AutoZone Park that begins on Tuesday.
Memphis is coming off a 4-2 series loss to Nashville.
Jimmy Crooks continues to power the offense with 11 home runs and 59 RBI this season, leading the team in both categories. Nathan Church is hitting .356 with four home runs and 20 RBI across 25 games since his promotion to Memphis. Brody Moore hit a unique first Triple-A home run, an inside-the-park three-run home run on Sunday.
Top prospect JJ Wetherholt was promoted to Memphis on Monday and is slated to make his Triple-A debut in the upcoming series. The shortstop/second baseman led Springfield with a .300 batting average and has more walks (44) than strikeouts (40). Wetherholt has stolen 14 bags while being caught just twice. The 22-year-old recorded his first career multi home run game on Sunday and will look to continue his impressive season at the next level.

On the mound, Curtis Taylor has pitched the most innings with 74 ⅓ over 19 appearances and 12 starts and leads starters with a 3.03 ERA. Andre Granillo has been sharp out of the bullpen and holds a 1.69 ERA in 21 relief appearances.
Memphis is 45-40 overall, and 4-8 in the second half. They reside in last place in the International League West but are only four games back of first place.

Springfield Cardinals (off-day)
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals were off Monday, as they traveled to Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas, to begin a six-game set with the Corpus Christi Hooks on Tuesday.
Springfield enters Tuesday with momentum after taking five of six from Northwest Arkansas.
Leonardo Bernal has powered the Springfield offense with 11 home runs and 43 RBI, leading the team in both categories. The catcher holds a .281 batting average and a .352 on-base percentage. Joshua Baez has had a solid start to his Double-A career, hitting .260 with seven home runs and 26 RBI across 30 games.
Ixan Henderson has been dominant in the Cardinals’ rotation. The left-hander leads the team in innings (74.0), strikeouts (81) and ERA (2.55).
Springfield’s bullpen has also been very effective. Nick Raquet has picked up three saves over 20 appearances and 29 ⅓ innings, with a pristine 0.92 ERA. Ricardo Velez holds a 1.39 ERA across 32 ⅓ innings, and Jack Ralston had a 1.72 ERA in 31 ⅓ innings prior to his recent promotion to Memphis.
Springfield is 50-31 overall, and 7-5 in the second half. They reside in third place in the Texas League North Division, one game back of a first-place tie between Arkansas and Wichita.
Tuesday’s game: at Corpus Christi (HOU). LHP Brycen Mautz (1-2, 4.12) vs. LHP Luis Angel Rodriguez (1-1, 4.36) 6:35 PM CT.
Peoria Chiefs (off-day)
The High-A Peoria Chiefs were off Monday, as they headed home to Dozer Park to begin a six-game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Tuesday.
Peoria enters Tuesday coming off a 5-1 series win over South Bend, and a solid 9-6 start to the second half.
Zach Levenson has swung a hot bat and leads the team with six home runs. The outfielder is second on the team with 28 RBI. Ian Petrutz leads with 33 driven in.
Infielder Jon Jon Gazdar continues to be a hitting machine. Gazdar is hitting .296, leading all players currently on the Chiefs’ roster, and has tallied 77 hits in 64 games.
On the mound, Tanner Jacobson has been sturdy in the Chiefs’ bullpen and holds a 2.91 ERA in 34 innings pitched and 22 relief appearances. Tyler Bradt has a 2.97 ERA over 36 ⅓ innings.
Peoria is 35-45 overall, and 9-6 in the second half. They are a half-game back of first place in the Midwest League West Division.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Cedar Rapids (MIN). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CT.
Palm Beach Cardinals (off-day)
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals were off Monday, as they prepared for a six-game home series with the Dunedin Blue Jays, starting Tuesday.
Palm Beach enters Tuesday after taking two of five from Jupiter.
On offense, Deniel Ortiz leads players currently on the roster with a .282 batting average and eight home runs. Ortiz has also swiped a team-leading 24 bases. Cade McGee leads the team with 42 RBI. Yordalin Pena has hit 16 doubles to lead Palm Beach and has connected for three triples.
Left-hander Braden Davis leads the team’s starting pitchers with a 3.57 ERA across 12 starts and 15 appearances. Leonel Sequera has made the most starts (16) and Brandt Thompson has thrown the most innings at 74 ⅔.
Palm Beach is 36-43 overall, and 4-10 in the second half. They reside in last place in the Florida State League East Division, 4.5 games back of first.
FCL Cardinals 1 at FCL Astros 5 (game one, 7 innings)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals dropped game one of Monday’s road doubleheader to the FCL Astros.
Andrew Bolivar made his third start, and ninth appearance for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched three scoreless innings on two hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.
Jovi Galvez allowed four runs across 1 ⅓ innings in relief of Bolivar and took the loss. Giovanni Vargas yielded a run over 1 ⅔ frames.
The Cardinals struck first in the second inning. Daniel Rojas connected for his second home run of the season, a solo shot.
The Astros plated five runs in the home fifth to take a 5-1 lead. The Cardinals failed to respond.
The FCL Cardinals scored one run on four walks and just just two hits. Rojas hit a home run and Junco singled.
On the bases, Facundo Velasquez stole his eighth bag. Junco swiped his fifth.
Defensively, Velasquez nailed a runner at home plate from right field.
FCL Cardinals 3 at FCL Astros 5 (game two, 7 innings)
The FCL Cardinals dropped a close contest at the FCL Astros in game two of Monday’s doubleheader.
Bernard Mack started for the Cardinals. The left-hander pitched four innings and allowed one run on one hit, one walk, and six strikeouts.
Brailyn Paulino surrendered two runs over two innings in relief of Mack and took the loss.
The Cardinals took the lead in the top of the first inning. In his first at-bat with the FCL Cardinals, Johnfrank Salazar hit a solo home run.
The Astros tied the game in the home first.
The Cardinals regained the lead at 2-1 with a run in the third. Facundo Velasquez lined a double and scored on a Bracewell Taveras single.
The Astros plated three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to grab a 5-2 lead.
Down to their final three outs, the Cardinals looked for a big inning but scored just one run. Romtres Cabrera and Velasquez walked and both advanced via a balk. Cabrera crossed home plate on a Salazar groundout, but the Cardinals’ rally ended there.
The FCL Cardinals scored three runs on six hits. Salazar hit a home run and drove in two runs. Taveras was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Yoerny Junco tallied two singles.
On the basepaths, Taveras swiped his seventh bag.
On defense, second baseman Taveras committed a fielding error.
The FCL Cardinals are 18-25 after being swept in the doubleheader. They reside in fourth place in the FCL East Division, 10.5 games back of first place. The Cardinals will play a road contest with the FCL Mets on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s game: at FCL Mets. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.
DSL Cardinals 0 at DSL Rangers Blue 4 (7 innings)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals were blanked by the DSL Rangers Blue in a shortened Monday road contest.
Juan Garcia made his fourth start for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched five innings and allowed two runs on four hits, no walks, and four strikeouts. Garcia took the loss.
Beiker Rodriguez struck out two but yielded two runs in an inning of work in relief of Garcia. Ricardo Fernandez allowed one hit before the game was called.
In the second inning, the Rangers Blue took a 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals looked to answer in the fourth. Yaxson Lucena hit an infield single. Cristofer Lebron and Brayan Amoroso walked to load the bags. All three were stranded.
The Rangers Blue doubled the lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning.
The DSL Cardinals scored no runs on just two hits. Jesus Perez tallied a double, the Cardinals’ lone extra-base hit. Lucena singled. Hernandez, Lebron, and Amoroso each drew a walk. The lineup was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
The DSL Cardinals are 15-11 on the season and hold a 1.5 game lead in the DSL Southeast Division. They will play a road contest with the DSL NYY Bombers on Tuesday.
