Cardinals Minor League Notebook – June 8, 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 2-3 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis outfielder Mike Antico, was 2-for-3, including a double, a two-run home run, a stolen base, and four RBI. Other standouts include Zack Weiss, Darlin Moquete, Luis Pino, Daniel Gomez, and Keiverson Ramirez.



Results for games played on Saturday, June 7:

Memphis Redbirds 10, Indianapolis Indians 2

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds crushed the Indianapolis Indians at AutoZone Park on Saturday.

Curtis Taylor made his eighth start for Memphis. The right-hander pitched 4 ⅔ innings and allowed two runs on six hits, two walks, and six strikeouts.

Michael Gomez tossed 1 ⅓ scoreless frames with a strikeout in relief of Taylor to pick up his first win of 2025. Zack Weiss fanned five across three scoreless innings to collect his second save of the season.

The Indians plated two runs in the top of the first inning. The Redbirds tied the game in the bottom of the first.

Nathan Church followed with his first triple at the Triple-A level. Jimmy Crooks reached base on a fielder’s choice play to put runners at the corners. Church scored on a Luken Baker double-play ball to tie the game at two.

Memphis scored another pair of runs in the second inning to take the lead.

Brody Moore singled and scored on Mike Antico’s first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to put Memphis in front 4-2.

The Redbirds added a run in the third. Crooks legged out an infield single and advanced to third base on a Matt Koperniak single. César Prieto singled home Crooks to extend the lead to 5-2.

Memphis scored the third pair of runs of the game in the fifth to widen the lead.

Luken Baker crushed his sixth home run of the season, a solo blast for a 6-2 lead.

Koperniak and Prieto tallied back-to-back singles to put runners at first and third base. Bryan Torres hit a third consecutive single to bring Koperniak home and increase the Memphis lead to five runs at 7-2.

The Redbirds added three runs with two outs in the seventh.

Prieto, Torres, and Moore drew three consecutive walks to load the bases. Antico doubled to score Prieto and Torres for a 9-2 lead, with Moore to third base on the play. Siani struck out and reached base via a wild pitch, with Antico to third base and Moore home for the 10th run for the Redbirds.

Memphis slugged three home runs in the victory.

The Redbirds scored 10 runs on 15 hits. Prieto was a perfect 4-for-4, with a walk, a run scored, and one RBI. Antico was 2-for-3, including a walk, a double, a two-run home run, and four RBI. Baker blasted his sixth home run, a solo shot. Siani crushed his fifth, also a solo shot. Church tripled and scored a run. Torres tallied a walk, a run scored, a single, and one RBI.

On the bases, Antico and Torres each stole their ninth bag of the season. Prieto was caught stealing second base. The Redbirds did not commit an error in the game.

Memphis is 34-26 on the season. They will look to secure the series victory over Indianapolis on Sunday.

Sunday’s game: vs. Indianapolis, TBA vs. RHP Thomas Harrington (2-6, 6.55) 1:05 PM CT.

Springfield Cardinals 7 at Frisco RoughRiders 12

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals fell to the RoughRiders in Frisco on Saturday.

Pete Hansen made his 11th start for Springfield. The left-hander threw five innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Hansen took the loss.

Sean Harney yielded a run in one inning in relief of Hansen. Edwin Nuñez surrendered four runs across 1 ⅔ innings with three strikeouts. Nathaniel Heredia recorded the final out of the eighth inning on a strikeout.

Springfield jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the second inning.

Joshua Baez walked and advanced to second base on a Dakota Harris single. Baez moved to third base via a Ramon Mendoza flyout. R.J. Yeager doubled home Baez to plate the first run of the game, with Harris to third base on the play. Harris came home on a Carlos Linarez groundout. Yeager stole third base and scored on a Darlin Moquete single for a 3-0 lead.

Frisco tied the game at three in the second inning and took the lead with a four-run fifth to extend their lead to 7-3. Following an eighth RoughRider run in the sixth, Springfield scored one run in the seventh to chip into the deficit.

Moquete drew a walk and advanced to third base on a Noah Mendlinger single. JJ Wetherholt singled home Moquete to move within four runs at 8-4.

The RoughRiders added four runs in the eighth to stretch the lead to 12-4. The Cardinals looked to rally in the ninth inning.

Moquete launched his second home run of the season, a solo blast, for Springfield’s fifth run of the game. Mendlinger followed with a single, and Wetherholt walked to put two runners on base. Jeremy Rivas lined a double to bring Mendlinger home and trim the lead to 12-6, with Wetherholt to third base on the play. Baez singled in Wetherholt to move closer at 12-7.

Springfield was unable to rally further in the loss.

The Cardinals scored seven runs on 12 hits. Moquete was 2-for-3, including a walk, a solo home run, two runs scored, and two RBI. Wetherholt went 2-for-3, with two walks, a double, a run scored, and one RBI. Rivas doubled and drove in one run. Mendlinger tallied four singles and scored a run.

On the bases, Yeager stole his third bag. Moquete swiped his ninth. Mendlinger was caught stealing second base. Wetherholt was picked off at second base.

On defense, catcher Linarez was charged with an error on a missed catch. Moquete threw out a runner at second base from left field. Baez nailed a runner at third base from center field.

Springfield is 31-25 on the season. They will look to secure five of six from Fresco on Sunday.

Sunday’s game: at Frisco, RHP Max Rajcic (2-3, 4.40) vs. RHP Trey Supak (4-2, 5.23) 6:05 PM CT.

Peoria Chiefs vs. Quad Cities River Bandits (postponed)

The High-A Peoria Chiefs contest with the Quad Cities River Bandits at Dozer Park was postponed on Saturday due to rain. The game will be made up on Sunday as part of a doubleheader.

The Chiefs are 22-32 on the season. They will look to win the series over the River Bandits on Sunday.

Sunday’s games: Game 1: RHP Jose Davila (2-2, 6.39) vs. RHP Logan Martin (4-2, 3.97) 12:05 PM CT.

Game 2: Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is slated to begin shortly after the conclusion of game one.

Palm Beach Cardinals 1 at Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 3

The Low-A Palm Beach lost a close contest to the Mighty Mussels in Fort Myers on Saturday.

Tink Hence started for Palm Beach in a rehab outing, as he works to rejoin the Memphis Redbirds. The right-hander pitched 2 ⅔ innings of scoreless baseball on one hit, no walks, and six strikeouts.

Mason Burns tossed 1 ⅓ scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts in relief of Hence. Left-hander Braden Davis allowed two runs and fanned seven across four innings in his third relief appearance. Davis took the loss.

Fort Myers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Palm Beach tied the game in the top of the sixth. Anyelo Encarnacion and Deniel Ortiz drew walks to put two runners on base. Luis Pino hit his 10th double of 2025 to score Encarnacion and tie the game at one, with Ortiz to third base on the play.

The Mighty Mussels plated two in the eighth to take a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals failed to answer.

The Cardinals scored one run on three hits. Pino was 2-for-4, including two doubles and the lone RBI for the Cardinals. Yordalin Pena tallied a single. Palm Beach was just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left six on base.

On the bases, Pena swiped his ninth bag and was caught stealing second base.

On defense, left fielder Pino committed a fielding error.

Palm Beach is 25-30 on the season. They will look to secure the series split with Fort Myers on Sunday.

Sunday’s game: at Fort Myers, TBA vs. LHP Michael Carpenter (0-2, 5.29) 11:05 AM CT.

FCL Cardinals 1 at FCL Marlins 7

The Florida Complex League Cardinals fell to the Marlins in a road contest on Saturday.

Ruben Menes made his fourth start for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched three innings and allowed two runs on four hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Menes took the loss.

Keiverson Ramirez fired three shutout frames and fanned a pair in relief of Menes. Jovi Galvez yielded five runs, three earned, across 1 ⅔ innings. Juan Severino recorded the final out of the eighth inning via strikeout.

The Cardinals scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Facundo Velasquez drew a lead-off walk. Yairo Padilla singled and advanced to third base on a throwing error, with Velasquez home on the play to put the Cardinals ahead 1-0.

The Marlins took the lead with a two-run third, added three runs in the seventh, and plated a pair of runs in the eighth inning to take a 7-1 lead.

Trailing in the ninth, the Cardinals looked to rally. Padilla lined a lead-off single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Paulo Asprilla walked to put two runners on, and both were stranded.

The Cardinals were unable to tally a hit with runners in scoring position in the loss.

The Cardinals scored one run on six hits. Yaisel Ramos was 2-for-3, including a double. Padilla recorded two singles.

On the basepaths, Daniel Rojas was caught stealing second base twice.

Defensively, shortstop Padilla and catcher Asprilla each made a throwing error. Yancel Guerrero nailed a runner at third base from left field.

The FCL Cardinals are 11-11 on the season. They are off on Sunday and Monday and will travel to the St. Lucie Sports Complex for a road contest with the FCL Mets on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game: at FCL Mets. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.

DSL Cardinals 9, DSL Marlins 3

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals bested the Marlins at the St. Louis Cardinals DR Complex on Saturday.

Jarol Baez made his first professional start for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched 1 ⅔ innings and allowed two runs on no hits, five walks, and two strikeouts.

Reiner Lopez fanned three across 2 ⅓ scoreless innings and collected his first professional win. Daniel Gomez followed and yielded one run over three innings with five strikeouts. Pedro Olivero tossed two scoreless frames to finish the game.

The Marlins plated two runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the first.

Kenly Hunter drew a lead-off walk and moved to second base via a wild pitch. Hunter advanced to third base on a Miguel Hernandez strikeout, with Hernandez reaching first base on a wild pitch on the play. The Cardinals executed a double steal, with Hernandez swiping second base, and Hunter taking home plate to score the Cardinals’ first run. Hernandez took third base via a wild pitch, and scored on a Yaxson Lucena single to tie the game at two.

The Cardinals took the lead in the second inning. Yeferson Portolatin lined a single and swiped second base to begin the frame. Portolatin advanced to third base on a wild pitch, and Michael Cordero walked to put runners on the corners. Jesus Perez reached base on a fielding error, with Cordero to second base and Portolatin home on the play to put the Cardinals in front 3-2.

The DSL Cards scored a trio of runs in the third inning, all with two outs, to extend the lead.

Edward Guribe singled and advanced to second base on a Lucena hit-by-pitch. Lucena and Guribe took second base and third base, respectively, on a Portolatin strikeout, with Portolatin to first base on the play via a wild pitch. Juan Pablo Cabrera drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Guribe home. Lucena touched home plate on a wild pitch, with Pablo Cabrera and Portolatin to second and third bases, respectively, on the play. Portolatin came home on the second consecutive wild pitch of the frame for a 6-2 Cardinals lead, with Pablo Cabrera to third base on the play.

Two more runs crossed the plate for the Cardinals in the fourth. Hunter hit his first professional triple and scored on the play via a throwing error to move ahead by five runs at 7-2. Hernandez followed with a single and a steal of second base. Hernandez advanced to third base and scored on two wild pitches for an 8-2 lead.

The Cardinals added a run in the fifth inning. Portolatin walked and made second base on a Pablo Cabrera single. Pablo Cabrera and Portolatin moved to second base and third base, respectively, on a Cordero groundout. Perez brought Portolatin home on a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 9-2, with Pablo Cabrera to third base on the play.

The Cardinals scored in five consecutive innings and stranded nine Marlins on base in the victory.

The Cardinals scored nine runs on seven hits. Guribe was 2-for-4, including a double and a run scored. Hunter tripled, walked, and scored twice. Portolatin singled and scored three runs. Perez tallied two RBI with a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.

On the bases, Hernandez swiped two bags to increase his season total to three. Hunter tallied his third steal with a swipe of home plate. Portolatin snagged his second bag. Lucena was caught stealing second base.

The Cardinals did not commit an error on defense.

The DSL Cardinals are 3-2 on the season. They are off on Sunday, and will play a road contest with the DSL Mets Blue on Monday.

Monday’s game: at DSL Mets Blue. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 AM CT.
