I’d rather have a few hitters with an Risp over 300 and one with an BA of 300 than vice versa. Excluding Saturday’s games we were only out hit 15-13 but there hits produced over 50% of their runs in those 2 games whereas our hits only produced 15% and one of those was a solo shot.
We need to get productivity from the bottom of our order like Wong and Bader. It seems like our biggest problem since early May even when we win is not being able to produce when we do get the chance. It seems when we get something started, we screw if up by base running, inability to get the big 2 out hit or we’ll SO when even a productive out to move a runner over to 3rd with less than 2 or score a run even with a Sac fly.
Well Cardinals27, hopefully Wacha pitches well enough tonight and we can sustain lead to where Schildt doesn’t have to make that decision early but we shall see.
I do hope that’s the case Forsch31, and Wacha turns back to his old form or at least part of it.
Top 5 bold predictions for tonight’s game.
1: Carp will reach base 3x
2: Ozuna will go deep.
3: Schildt will not pull Wacha after he gives up a hit.
4: there will be under 10k in attendance tonight.
5: We score 7 runs.Hopefully our boys can lift your spirits tonight BlackHillsCard with a victory. I think it’s a better chance of the game being sold out than Alcantara pitching a no hitter.
Ok, so now back to opinions and ideas. I feel putting Cmart in the rotation is not the way to go at the moment. Maybe after the ASG. I would think about Gant or Gallegos. I realize that weakens our bullpen a bit but it may be worth a try.
We all have opinions including me as to what our team needs to do to turn it around, and all good ones from everyone but mostly what we all have as Cardinal fans is the patience and confidence in our boys to figure it out and turn it around. And if they want to use some of our ideas , then that’s fine too
I’d be happy if we gained 1 game a week in the standings. Heck even 0.5 game would put us just 3 out by ASG
The lack of confidence in Wacha is understandable based on his performance thus far but he is also capable of turning it around too.
Good point 14NyquisT. If Wacha can get back on track, it will be big for us. Hopefully we can get him an early lead.
actually its 7 of the next 11. The next 25 games heading into the ASG, are against teams with records of 500 or below, of course that could change win we play them. None of them are against the NLC, so my hope is that we can play loose, get our bats going, restore confidence so we can make that push in the final month. Only time will tell though. In these next 25 games,I can see us winning at least 16.
We will play the Marlins 6 of the next 10 games. Unfortunately a series win or even a sweep wont say much because it is after all the Marlins… however it can be scary because anything less than a series win will tell a lot about our team in a negative way, unfortunately. The upside though. perhaps these games against the Marlins will be what we need to play loose and get our bats going. Other than the win, I will be looking for some key things in each game that will confirm my confidence that we are just going thru a mini slump and we will pull out of it. For tonights game, it will be how Wacha pitches and his control.
I notice they’re attacking the first pitch which I like to see.
Here are my 3 bold predictions for tonight.
1 Waino will walk under 5
2. Schildt will have an emotion
3. Cardinals will winI say that now Pugsley about having no interest in watching the game tonight but I’m sure Come game time my interest will increase as I am an optimist and always feel this will be the game we turn it around and begin a string of playing good ball like I know we are capable of. Although I do agree with BlackHills that the majority of St. Louis fans will be tuned into the Blues game. And I would think that even if the Cardinals were playing well. Only difference is that the previous channel button on the remote may be used a little more.
Sorry, it’s Knizner
Is there a reason why Kizner hasn’t been given more oppt other than the one last Sunday? He didn’t get a hit but he called a great game. It’s not like Yadi would lose his starting job when he came back no matter how well Kizner hit or called games. Remember Yadi doesn’t call bad games, pitchers miss their targets every time.
I have no interest in watching tonight’s game. I in no way have given up on the season as I still believe we have a good team to compete but our recent play of late has just disgusted me because I know we are better than what we have played. Even if we win or sweep the next series, it will tell me nothing as it will be against the Marlins, but that’s not the team we need to beat to show we are contenders. It’s teams like the cubs, brewers, the elite teams. And not just play well, and compete but win series. Although as of late we haven’t even been playing well nor competing. I won’t sit here and say I know what the problem is, who to sit or play as it would just be an opinion as I’m sure we all have.I don’t know but I strongly believe that we will put it together and start playing as a team, making that big pitch, coming up with that big hit. Hopefully this will happen soon and we can make that move at the deadline to pick up that one missing piece.
Some one posted that A contract extension for Schildt was laughable. I tend to agree as I am not a big fan of Schildt and my 2 biggest problems with him is his lack of energy. I feel we need someone with a little fire. Someone to light a fire under our ass and not worry about feelings. Last season, Dave Roberts pulled Cody Bellinger out of game because he felt he didn’t hustle to first on ground out. It basically sent a message to the team if I’m willing to pull our star player for not hustling out a grounder then none of you are safe. My other problem was schildt is his handling of the pitching staff. Maybe I’m just old school but I feel every starter should be allowed to work out of their own jam or be at least allowed to continue when they’re pitching well. To me it shows no confidence in your staff they can get out of trouble, complete the job without help. We have easily lost more than a handful of games this year when our starter has pitched well thru 6, been pulled and the pen gives it up. Trust in your pitcher if they say they can continue,. If you show trust in your starter then they will be honest with you when they can’t continue. I realize that is the way of the game today but I don’t like it and it is my opinion as why we will not see those managers who are with a team for many years like a sparky Anderson, leyland. Cox, Weaver, or a Herzog.
My apologies for the long ranting post.
Good luck to the Cardinals tonight. Hope they win. Perhaps they can take some inspiration from their NHL counter parts. 2 and half months into the season, the Blues were the worst team in The NHL, and now they are only a few hours away from hoisting the Stanley cup. We are 2 and half months into the MLB season and although we’re not the worst team, we still have time to turn it around and we will be that team in October playing to bring Title 12 back to St.louisI wish carp would swing at the first pitch.
Crazy first inning. A shutdown inning would have been nice but happy with the lead.
Another what if. What if we win tonight then how would the post look tomorrow in comparison to how the post would look if we won yesterday and lost lost tonight.?
All good points Cardinal in France, but that’s the beauty of baseball.,, the what if’s. And hopefully it will only be a matter of time before those what if’s turn into I knew it was possible
Today’s game was a good example in comparing a mediocre team to a good team,. The cubs only had two more hits than us but those extra 2 hits resulted in 3 runs. Not that we had many opportunities but neither did they, however they made the best of them when they did
At least we avoided the shutout
I had the same feeling too Pugsley. I felt if we had a chance , that MM would need to be on his A game and hopefully score some runs late against their bullpen
