Bling…Sounds like TLR. He sometimes treated the line-up card as if he were employed by the NSA and the card was a highly sensitive document lifted straight out of the inner workings of the State Dept. It sometimes seemed as though the HPU would barely see them in time. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he filled them out in some sort of special intelligence code…In any event, I recall sometimes not being able to find a Cardinal line-up anywhere on the world wide web until an hour or so prior to first pitch when he was the Redbird Mgr.
August 13, 2022 at 2:29 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195341Even though Cleveland’s supplanted the Twins in 1st place in the ALC for more than a week now, every time I see the name ‘Guardians’ I think to myself, “Who?” For a split second, I think MLB may have expanded again and I simply hadn’t kept up with the latest news. I sure hope my favorite bird never takes offense to the term, ‘Redbird.’ Somehow I’d feel silly screaming at the top of my lungs from my seat in the upper deck, “GO ARCHIES!”
August 13, 2022 at 2:16 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195340BikeMike…Yeah the initial before the last name thing makes sense, but In Ozzie’s case the #1 was pretty easy to figure out. And if that didn’t do it, the back-flips were a subtle hint. Even I could figure that out…
August 13, 2022 at 1:59 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195339BikeMike…Yeah, Skates placed 2nd in that year’s NL MVP voting behind Murphy. Hernandez and Hendrick were my two favorite Redbird position players at that time. It was Ozzie’s first year as a Redbird and he hadn’t yet cemented himself as a fan favorite. At least in my case. Insofar as pitchers, yeah, Sutter was the guy who put eveything into place, but as you may expect, my personal favorite was none other than ‘walkingunderwear’…Not only because he could out and out pitch, but also because he was a self-proclaimed, ‘powerheater’ in the batter’s box. Incidentally, I was the guy who inquired about thoughts on that season’s Cardinal MVP. I was surprised I didn’t get more feedback. Guess everyone’s cutting the grass…
August 13, 2022 at 1:51 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195333UCCONN…I understand precisely what you’re driving at, but not sure it applies to Tatis Jr. I’d say he was already in the driver’s seat insofar as capitalizing on his skill set and talent to the tune of $340M. The pallet loaded with currecncy was presented to him not only prior to yesterday’s events, but also before he injured his wrist while astride a full on, super sport, litre bike. Pretty sure he collected every penny of his guaranteed salary while recovering from the motorcycle mishap. Also pretty sure he won’t collect a solitary penny of his salary while serving the 80 game susp.
August 13, 2022 at 1:31 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195331Ratsbuddy…I’m going to flip the numbers and conservatively go with 3-2 at Wrigley next week. Best I can tell, Hudson’s slated for the opener of the 5 games and I’m going to hope for a DH sweep with Wainwright and Monte in line for those two games. I’ll hope for a split in the final two. I’ll also say I find it odd that all 5 of those games are being played during the work week. I don’t guess that the schedule guys are aware that not too many things are better than a weekend Redbirds/Cubs match-up on a beautiful sunny day at Wrigley.
August 13, 2022 at 1:01 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195328Bling…Yeah, for that kind of scratch, they should have secured him in a vault provided with a round the clock security force consisting of a team of heavily armed Mossad agents…
August 13, 2022 at 12:56 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195325gscottar…Yeah, it’s not good for Padres, but I’d say before they focus on anything remotely resembling a WS appearance, they should concern themselves with simply hanging on to the last remaining NL WC spot which could quite possibly be snatched from them by several teams which include Mil. and the Redbirds. In addition to the events of yesterday, they still have 9 games remaining against the Dodgers and 3 vs. the Cardinals in StL. Redbirds swept the 3 games in SD. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they didn’t even qualify for bonus baseball at the conclusion of the regular season.
August 13, 2022 at 11:28 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195317On a lighter note. It’ll be nice to see some of the ’82 World Champion Redbirds together this evening. I’d be interested to know anyone’s thoughts regarding the MVP of that Cardinal ballclub. Everyone knows about Bruce Sutter, but limiting views to position players, I’ve always felt it was Smith. “Skates” Smith…It’s a tough call on that ballclub. I can safely say I attended at least 30 to 35 regular season games that season including the SB of HP by Brummer in extras vs. SF. And although I was only able to watch the WS on the TV, I was able to get a ticket to Forsch’s 7-0 shutout in Game 1 of the NLCS which included the bonus of the Wille McGee “ET didn’t make it home” triple. That prized ticket also included attendance for the day’s prior ballgame in which Niekro had the Redbirds flailing at butterflys and held a 1-0 lead when the rains came 2 outs before the game would have been declared an official one. In any event, it’s a tough call on that team’s position player regular season MVP simply because it was genuinely a team effort and a darn good one. Thoughts?
August 13, 2022 at 10:44 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195314TexCard…I agree and it’s certainly not limited to the ladder of Big League baseball. I’m not at all attempting to create the impression that integrity doesn’t exist anymore, but it certainly sometimes seems as though it’s perceived value has been diminished in countless different professions and facets of life. I’ll also add that I’m certainly not the sharpest tool in the shed and that the sole method that taught me the value of honesty and integrity was practical experience and that the tremendous payoff for integrity and honesty is peace of mind and a good night’s rest. Of course, I’ve never been offered $340M, so who knows, right?
August 13, 2022 at 10:13 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195312Bike Mike…Nice refelection on the temptations of youth and the relative lack of fully developed maturity and sound judgement at the still young age of 23 or so. I’m 64 and I still occasionally ponder how fortunate I was to have somehow avoided disaster and allowed to safely walk away from some of the situations I foolishly placed myself into when I was at that age. Motorcycles and muscle cars immediately come to mind. In any event, I’ll afford the young man credit for not placing the blame on the FedEx guy…
August 13, 2022 at 8:38 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195305TexCard…Well, my first thought was how unbelievably foolish and stupid a young player possessed with his level of talent has to be in order to afford his participation to such an utterly silly and brainless act. He’s only 23 yrs. and I’ve no idea how long he’ll stick around, but however long that is, the dark cloud will be hovering over him for the entire duration of his career. But you’re dead right insofar as your observation of the need to place the teeth of a stronger economic deterrent into play. Let’s face it, at $340M over the course of 14 yrs. the dark cloud that I mentioned certainly comes with a glaring silver lining. It’s possble that if there was the risk of his pocket being emptied out, he may have thought it over a bit more carefully. The reality is that he probably doesn’t really care too much that he got caught. Oh well…
August 12, 2022 at 11:15 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #19528680 game susp. for Tatis Jr. Not too smart.
August 12, 2022 at 11:13 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 113 thread – Saturday, August 13 vs. Brewers #195285Unbelievable…Tatis Jr. gets nailed with an 80 game susp.
August 12, 2022 at 10:21 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #195277Bike Mike…Yeah, those Live at Shannon’s were good. I particularly recall one with Cepeda and McCarver. I would have hated like heck to get the bar tab…
August 12, 2022 at 10:12 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #1952726 out save on 29 pitches for Helsley. He can go 2 more innings tomorrow if needed…

August 12, 2022 at 10:06 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #195261It’s never easy. Never.
August 12, 2022 at 10:03 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #195259Well, Helsley gets the baseball.
August 12, 2022 at 9:56 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #195257Bike Mike…I would probably run Helsley out to work the 9th, but I’m an old guy. For instance, Sutter collected 36 saves in ’82. IP? 102.1 You probably know this, but if the Redbirds had the lead in 7th, Whitey handed the baseball to Bruce Sutter. And he was by no means the only closer that was used that way at that time.
August 12, 2022 at 9:46 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #195253T.O. Goldy and Nado for the home half. Got the right guys. It’d be nice to get a softer cushion this inning.
August 12, 2022 at 9:43 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #195249That’s real nice about Molina, Bike Mike. I’m gonna miss seeing him behind HP.
August 12, 2022 at 9:41 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 112 thread – Friday, August 12 vs. Brewers #195247Yeah, I’m not too sure he’ll get the baseball for the 9th. Game may have to hinge on Gio. I’m not going to elaborate…
