Up to 25 pitches now for Helsley. Not liking this too much. He’s been laboring some. Not real crisp, although he blows away Urias.
That 22 strikes is the key. When you keep the ball in the zone, usually good things happen.
Who will Mike’s guests be on Live at Shannon’s? Man, that was a good post game show when Mike did that after Friday night games.
I checked Helsley’s game logs. He threw 26 pitches over 2 1/3 innings on July 7 and came back on July 9 and threw an inning/14 pitches. But there aren’t a lot of similar examples. My guess is if it is down to winning the series and he is ok physically, we’ll see him Sunday.
Well had grandson today so wasn’t able to watch. Good win, more than likely won’t see helsley tomorrow so hopefully we have a nice cushion.
Bike Mike…Yeah, those Live at Shannon’s were good. I particularly recall one with Cepeda and McCarver. I would have hated like heck to get the bar tab…
Yeah, some of those shows were classics. That was really in Mike in his element. He was good teaming with Jack on the broadcasts, but not as good as the lead guy. But sitting around the bar telling stories about baseball was his true gift.
Did enough to win but it was all long ball.0 for 5 with RISP. Really not there yet. Got to give this one to pitching. Nooty’s really looking like a gamer. Bunting his way on. Base hits against same side pitchers. Stealing bases.

Go Cardinals!Missed the game, but the pitching must’ve been very good. Quintana and Montgomery pickups are looking great so far, although Stratton not so much. Good on Mo for strengthening the weak link.
