stlcard25ParticipantMackenzie Gore to the Rangers for their #3, 6, 12, 16 and 18 prospects. None of these guys were top 100 prospects on MLB’s lis, although Fien was drafted 12th this past year, and Rosario was top 100 on BA’s list going into 2025.
January 22, 2026 at 6:40 pm #299688Good return for the Nats, they are likely in the same time frame to contend as the Cardinals and did the smart thing, cash in a chip that won’t be around when they contend.
Which is exactly why the Cardinals need to trade Donnie and Jojo now, and use the savings to buy lottery tickets that can be flipped 7/31/26!
January 22, 2026 at 8:57 pm #299690DO NOT TRADE DONOVAN!
January 25, 2026 at 1:02 pm #299803Yankees OF/DH spots
Judge-$40m
Bellinger-$42.5M
Grisham -$22m
Stanton-$29mCorrect me if my math is off, but their OF/DH spots are more than the $133.5M…. Over 30M more than the Cardinals even with their “payoffs”.
Jasson Dominguez and Jordan Walker as the corner OFers in Memphis in April 2026?
January 25, 2026 at 1:45 pm #299806I have wanted Jasson Dominguez for a long time but it would take a lot to get him. He is a big league player right now not AAA. He got 429 PA’s with the Yanks last year.
Maybe Donovan and JoJo for Dominguez and a pitching prospect?
January 25, 2026 at 6:22 pm #299812Yes, trade Donovan as soon as you can and Gorman, Walker ans Nootbar.
January 25, 2026 at 8:12 pm #299814NO, do NOT trade Donny!
January 26, 2026 at 9:11 am #299826
stlcard25ParticipantIs Dominguez even wanted in NY? Seems like they’ve given up on him. I would hope that it wouldn’t take two borderline All Star players to get him.
January 26, 2026 at 10:47 am #299829In two years Donovan will walk away to another team and the Cardinals will get zero for him. Now, he could bring a couple of decent prospects. If he’s here for 26 and 27 the best he could do is help us finish fourth instead of fifth. Wow, what a moment that would be in Cardinal history.
January 26, 2026 at 1:19 pm #299841He is their version of Jordan Walker. BUT they have an over abundance of good and highly compensated OFers, unlike the Cardinals.
Donnie and Jojo would be just fine if they throw in a decent prospect with Dominguez.
Win-win trade for both sides.January 26, 2026 at 1:35 pm #299842Like I said he did get 429 PA’s last year so I don’t know if it is accurate to say the Yanks have given up on him. His numbers are much better than Jordan Walker although that is a low bar.
My trade proposal would have them including a legit pitching prospect, not a throw away or lottery ticket.
January 26, 2026 at 2:00 pm #299847I think we should claim George Soriano from the Braves. Dfa Roycroft. Worse case scenario we Dfa Soriano after spring training. Then we would still keep him at Memphis unless he was claimed again.
January 26, 2026 at 8:54 pm #299866On that trade value thing, which I don’t think of is close to accurate:
Donnie and Obrien are worth more than Dominguez and Carlos Lagrange.
Do it Chaim!!!
January 27, 2026 at 10:12 am #299884
stlcard25ParticipantDominguez is another lefty. Still, he and Walker in the OF would be quite the all-hype duo. Not to mention, the defense could be sort of comical.
I think of the Yankees’ top arms I’d take Elmer Rodriguez over Carlos Lagrange due to much better command, but it’s close.
If Donovan goes to the Giants, I’ve talked myself into hoping that Keyner Martinez is part of the return. I like the ceiling a lot more than I like the #4/5 floor of Whisenhunt.
January 27, 2026 at 12:17 pm #299891I think Dominguez is a switch hitter.
He put up .5 WAR last year compared to Walker’s -1.7, so a difference of 2.2 WAR.
January 27, 2026 at 12:30 pm #299893
stlcard25ParticipantYes, he is a switch hitter, but he’s very bad against lefties. So he’s effectively just a left handed batter. But he looks like he could be a younger version of Nootbaar, with more team control. And there’s still some ceiling left. If somehow, some way, Walker and Dominguez both got to their ceilings, we’d have a stew going.
It would still take a good pitching prospect to get my attention if Dominguez is included.
January 27, 2026 at 1:15 pm #299894Dominguez and Lagrange…. Threw that out there? And it’s supposedly fair****
At this point, I don’t care what handedness a dude has, if he can actually hit, that is what matters, they can figure out the handedness and all that crap when they’re about to contend in 2028
January 27, 2026 at 7:37 pm #299899He put up .5 WAR last year compared to Walker’s -1.7, so a difference of 2.2 WAR.
Yeah but there also was a 1.7 WAR improvement from Gscottar as well over Walker
January 27, 2026 at 10:15 pm #299909They won’t be contending in 28. 30 at the earliest and contending would mean they could try for a playoff spot. If they are going to grow their own talent and expect to win that way then just look at the Pirates and Reds. That’s what the future Cardinals will look like…unless there is a hard cap put in place.
January 28, 2026 at 7:15 am #299915Nate, I disagree that by 28 they can’t win the division. They are adding Chess pieces and have basically zero money on the books.
Does Donnie need to be traded for LTV? Does Jojo need to be traded? Does Noot need to be traded after showing he is healthy? Does Obrien need to be traded at the deadline? Do they need to add at a minimum 1 RHHOF and 1 LHRP which can be trade chips?
Every answer is 100% yes….January 28, 2026 at 8:13 am #299921
jj-cf-stlParticipantThey have the player budget in “bare bones” territory. Contending will require spending and that requires a lot of squinting during a purge.
They just passed on Bader. Maybe Grichuk is cheaper. Is backfilling the roster a bare bones effort too?
January 28, 2026 at 9:51 am #299927Chaim Bloom says the Cardinals don’t need to trade Brendan Donovan.
Do some people assume the Seattle Mariners need to trade from their surplus of eight Top 100 prospects (seven at MLB.com, seven by Keith Law and five at ESPN)?
Could the Mariners simply roll with Cole Young at second base and Ben Williamson at third base with Colt Emerson, Leo Rivas amd Ryan Bliss as backups?
A wide range of outcomes is available. With or without Brendan Donovan, the Mariners could miss the playoffs or advance to the World Series. Young and Williamson could be busts. Alternatively, Young could be an All Star and Williamson a Gold Glove winner on a championship team.
The Cardinals and potential trade partners likely value Donovan differently. Likewise, the Cardinals and trade partners probably value the partners’ prospects and other assets differently. More often than not, good faith trade negotiations fail to produce a deal.
Nothing wrong with that.
January 28, 2026 at 11:38 am #299939In other words, they need HARMONY in trades. 😉
Seriously, that is a good post!
January 28, 2026 at 12:02 pm #299940Harmony,
Arroyo and Cijinte and you get Donnie, Jojo AND Obrien back!Deal? I backed off on Sloan, but Arroyo has to be in it.
January 28, 2026 at 12:12 pm #299941Evidently, somehow, the Red Sox want more innings which I don’t understand BUT, with money close to equal….
Bring the local guy back…. Pallante for Tanner Houck and (out for most of 2026) team control through 2027.
Disclaimer: My mom knew his grandpa and would love to go to a game to watch him.
