The Cardinals don’t need Lux unless they turned around and flipped him elsewhere. I like the Miller add though. If the Dodgers really want to move some salary it would have to be Taylor or Muncy.
December 24, 2024 at 7:16 pm #273857I’m still trying to convince myself the Dodgers would really want Arenado. More likely, they would take Arenado off our hands to get whoever would be coming with Arenado. So if we are trying to imagine a trade, think about what do we have that the Dodgers would want bad enough to take Arenado and his contract off our hands, sending back something respectable to make it look good.

stlcard25ParticipantCorbin Burnes to Arizona. They’ll have an excellent rotation.

December 28, 2024 at 12:13 pm #273984Apparently Burnes turned down more money from the Giants and Blue Jays to sign with the Dbacks. He lives in the Phoenix area.
January 3, 2025 at 2:18 pm #274262The Dodgers keep on Dodgering.
The Dodgers land infielder Hyeseong Kim with 3-year, $12.5 million deal, including 2-year,$9.5 million club option. @JonHeyman on it.

January 3, 2025 at 2:24 pm #274263That is a pretty cheap deal for the Dodgers. Is this guy any good?

jj-cf-stlParticipantLux and Rojas are placeholders and expendable. Dodgers budget rolling thru!
January 4, 2025 at 8:42 am #274289That is a pretty cheap deal for the Dodgers. Is this guy any good?
The Dodgers are going to use him as a utility player. He has good defense, questionable bat.
The Dodgers value defense. It’s almost like part of the objective of the game is to keep the other team from scoring.
January 4, 2025 at 9:02 am #274291
jj-cf-stlParticipantSo 3/15mil for a utility guy (posting fee), plus a 110% tax on 12.5mil. I guess they like him a lot.
January 4, 2025 at 9:07 am #274293It’s only money…

jj-cf-stlParticipantFlags fly forever
January 4, 2025 at 1:50 pm #274312With an AAV of less than $5M per year I would hardly call this a blockbuster signing. Back in the old days even the Cardinals could have afforded this move.
January 4, 2025 at 2:43 pm #274320
jj-cf-stlParticipantExcuse me sir, its a taxable item. Stupid fine print!
The last bench player making 10mil for StL was Paul DeJong, but it wasn’t by choice 😉
January 4, 2025 at 2:59 pm #274322Kim is small potatoes. The real prize is Roki Sasaki, who is eligible to be signed on January 15.

jj-cf-stlParticipantDodgers budget rolling thru!
January 4, 2025 at 9:27 pm #274345It looks like the Dodgers have a way of valuing foreign talent.
They were said to be surprised by how much they made off Ohtani, and one report has them making $120 million off him in the first year.
January 5, 2025 at 9:57 am #274368And before everyone gets carried away with the “Dodgers are buying a championship” agenda keep in mind that they aren’t always the highest bidder.
The Blue Jays and Mets made comparable bids for Ohtani. The Blue Jays made a comparable bid for Hernandez. And this Kim fellow is making $4M per year. All 30 teams could have afforded that. Sometimes these players just want to play for the Dodgers regardless of the money.
When Kershaw signs for another cheap one year deal with the Dodgers it won’t be because of the money.
Whoever Sasaki signs with it won’t be because of the money because he can only be offered the international bonus pool which every team could afford. You also have to have a good atmosphere and recruiting team to get some of these players.
January 5, 2025 at 11:44 am #274392Yes, Kim reportedly turned down five years, $28 million from the Angels to play for the Dodgers
January 6, 2025 at 9:15 pm #274469Dodgers sign Kim for a little over $4 million per year.
Trade LUx and his $2.7 million estimated salary for the Reds third rounder and a competitive balance pick…
January 7, 2025 at 7:30 am #274476I would love to get a couple of competitive balance picks in the Arenado, Helsley and Fedde trades, simply to get the pool number up and thus have lots of flexibility in the later rounds. I still think Noot might be gone as well.
January 7, 2025 at 10:46 am #274487
jj-cf-stlParticipantIf OAK targets Fedde and JoJo, who should Mo receive in return?
January 7, 2025 at 11:04 am #274488There are going to be a lot of teams targeting Fedde – in addition to the Tigers and Guardians, you would think the Braves & Orioles would be in on Fedde as well. Really, there should be 20-25 teams that would be willing to trade for him.
January 7, 2025 at 11:43 am #274491I still think Noot might be gone as well.
I agree, especially if the Cards are stuck with Nado.
January 7, 2025 at 12:17 pm #274493I don’t see how trading Nootbaar solves anything.
He’s only estimated to make $2.8 million, and the downfall of our team last year was the outfield. Nootbaar & Donovan were the only ones that produced.
