So, after reading the Scoops with Danny Mac article on the SS question I’m sold on his opinion:
“Conclusions? For whatever it’s worth, the Steamer Projections for 2022 have DeJong at three percent above average offensively, and Sosa at five percent below average. The Cardinals could stay the course with both guys, help their pitchers by maintaining top-level defense at short, and adjust during the season when Gorman arrives.”

At&T is another brutal park for righties so I’d imagine he may struggle. But I hope he does well. I think our OF will be fine.

If Steamer thinks PDJ will be 3% above average offensively in 2022, I wonder what they thought Carp would do in 2021. Can someone who subscribes find that out?
Between Nootbar, Plummer, Yepez, Gorman and Donovan I think the Cardinals can cover losing Williams, Dean and Moroff.

JonesSTL25, you mentioned AT&T Park, and this is off topic, but if you’re ever in that area, going to a game there is a must. I would not recommend going to SF if you can avoid it, but the park is unbelievable if you end up there. Everything from the stadium itself, the views, the food, etc would probably put it at the top of my list of stadiums I’ve been to.
BC – any pitchers brought in will replace anyone that they are better than or those who will inevitably get injured.
Some on your list may get traded…. You know how it works…..
Steamer had Carp at .220/.345/.402 before last year. While I can’t find the wRC+ on that, I’d imagine it was right around 100. Zips had him at .219/.338/.394, which was a 96 OPS+.
ZTR – I don’t envy any MLB GM. If I have a young stud pitcher who’s clearly ready, do I go with him, or bring in a proven
major leaguer to fill that slot?In the Cardinals’ case, there is no young, stud pitcher who is clearly ready. They have one who MIGHT be ready and another couple of pitchers who are ready to be in the majors but don’t appear to be studs. The stud, young pitcher could pitch out of the bullpen and be the number 6 starter. He could follow Waino’s path. In 2023, the young stud could take Waino’s place in the rotation at only 23 years old.
Let’s say the Cards feel Liberatore is almost ready. They want to put him at Memphis for a month or two and then call him
up. Do you you really go out and sign a veteran for $20 million a year for 5 year to fill that spot in the rotation?“If you brought in a pitcher or two, whom would they replace?”

Reyes – let him come to spring stretched out as a starter and compete for a rotation spot. But if he doesn’t, and I suspect his strike throwing ability will keep it from happening, a long man role and spot starter.
Garcia and McFarland are free agents
Woodford – has options. Probably best kept stretched out in AAA ready to fill a rotation spot. Possibly tradeable.
Liberatore- not on 40 man, doesn’t need to be, needs more seasoning, could be an option if their is injury, clear Wainwright replacement for 2023.
Oviedo – depth or tradeable
Fernandez- control issue, still has options, be on the flight back and forth from STL to Memphis a few times I’m sure.
Jones- Conner? 6.39ERA and 5 BB/9. in AAA?
