Gorman has tremendous power. When he was a senior in high school, he won the national high school home run competition.

Gorman should be a future 1B or in LF.

Based on what? If you think he’s the guy to displace Goldschmidt or Walker with basically no experience at either, thats a big ask.

The middle infield will probably be Winn, Gorman and either Dononan or Edman as super sub by 2024.

I wasn’t aware that there was a national HS HR competition, but it’s been a while since I was in HS…Haha! When I played in HS, I simply hoped that I was good enough to make the AL team when the HS season came to an end. AL Post #777. Anyone remember them? We were pretty good…

Alverez with the 2 run double off the wall in LF brings back memories of how Lance Berkman would serve the baseball into the Crawford boxes almost at will with that nice and easy LH’ed swing when the Redbirds opposed him and the Astros in the mid 2000’s. In my view, Houston should still be a NL team.

Gorman won two different Home Run Derby events as a senior. But I’ve not heard of any national home run titles and it seems unlikely as he hit only 10 HR his senior year and 32 over his prep career. Good but probably not record-setting.

Oh, my goodness. They have two of those HRD’s at the HS level? When I was in HS, all the focus was centered on commanding the strike zone, hitting the cut-off and moving the runners over.

MaXpreps has Gorman’s high school career as follows –

    Games – 114
    Home Runs – 32
    RBI – 118

Is there an actual prospect you would trade for anyone? If you could get a true #1 starter, would you say NO to trading Walker?

Basically, what would it take to give up the following?

    Walker
    Winn
    Gorman

We had a chance in late July to give up some of those players for another player that’s projected to be a superstar for years to come. And we did not do it.

Ain’t going to happen now either.

Card4Ever, we traded for both of our MVP candidates, so it’s always possible.

Donavan and Eddie should always start over Gorman. Wait and see on Winn. Gorman is a hitter first and you find a place to play him…DH, LF or 1B.

Has Gorman ever played the outfield?

The question about the number 1 starter was not what we think the club will do, but what we would do.

Personally I would not trade Walker. I would take the chance that Flaherty becomes a number 1 before dealing JW.

Out of the three listed, I could be talked into dealing Gorman. I would not want to trade Winn, but depending on the pitcher, his age, history, and that sort of thing, I would talk about anyone except Walker.

I wonder if Max Preps says how many times he struck out?

What is tough to take in talking about a frontline starter, is that Sandy “Koufax” Alcantara and Zac Gallen combined for over 13 WAR this year.

You figure if we had those two guys along with what we have now, we would have challenged the Dodgers for best record in baseball.

It’s those kind of deals that make me gunshy about giving up talented farm hands.

Dated anecdote, but Chris Haas had tremendous power in High School, but only hit 8 home runs his senior year.

Just read a great article on goldy written by Bernie. I knew that goldy had been slumping through September but didn’t realize that it actually started August 26th and I hadn’t realized just how bad it was. His numbers just did a complete 180 starting immediately at that point. Bernie did a great job of showing all the numbers, just incredible. I mean was there an injury. He says no but it’s just night n day. Good read for anyone that is interested.

Here are Gorman’s total high school numbers –

    Games – 114
    Plate Appearances – 410
    At Bats – 277
    BA – .419
    OBP – .583
    Slg. – .873
    OPS – 1.457
    Home runs – 32
    Doubles – 26
    Ks – 36
    W – 110

Brian mentioned only 10 home runs senior year. What he failed to mention is that it was in only 32 games with
128 plate appearances and 76 at bats. He was walked 46 times. He only struck out 16 times. His OBP was .641 and his OPS was 1.536.

Thankfully we didn’t do it. If we are going to trade away the farm it needs to be for a player we will have longer than two years.

Let’s not trade away the farm or talk about wild, not going to happen free agent signings and trades. Let’s spend time truly analyzing on a case by case basis what we have – O’Neill, Carlson, Nootbaar, Donovan, Edman, Knizner, Herrera, Gorman, Yepez, Burleson, Gomez, Walker, and Winn. 13 position players.
Some of them are going to be our key to the future.

Where is the much needed ace going to come from?

    Trade or FA signing?

Quintana did outstanding in his start of course, but I don’t think he, Flaherty or Waino should be counted on being that guy going into 2023. (especially considering Q and Waino might not even be back)

    Could be either.
