Thanks Rats…Hey, my next question, is how do you do it? Haha! I looked all over the site menu and couldn’t find any comprehensive instructions for the tech challenged, such as myself. Any help would be highly appreciated.

It would be interesting to compare the overall ceilings of
O’Neill, Gorman, Carlson, Yepez, Burleson, Walker, and Gomez.

We need a consistent RBI bat with some power hitting behind Goldschmidt and Arenado.

1TD, you go to the Open Forum page and go to the bottom. It says to start a topic. Put in a title for the topic in the top box and type the body of the post in the big box. Hit submit and it is done.

According to many here Gorman is a bust at 22 so he has no ceiling. O’Neill needs to stay healthy and I don’t this he can so no ceiling. Carlson regressed this year but I think at 23 he has time to improve so he has an average ceiling. Yepez maybe a lower ceiling than Carlson since only a DH type. Burleson I don’t think his ceiling is very high. Walker I think has the highest ceiling of them all. Gomez don’t know much about him so I won’t rate him.

A high ceiling player like Gorman is a bust at 22? I just spit out my diet coke.

Not my opinion like I said to some posters have written him off. I think at 22 he has a high ceiling.

Well, it’s my impression that the Cardinals were relying on O’Neill for power production. He’s had ample time to demonstrate an ability to reach what you termed a ceiling. He featured a glimpse in the second half of ’21, and pushed 80 baserunners across HP, but I’m beginning to be convinced he won’t be able to stay on the field long enough to consistently provide power production. I don’t think Carlson was or ever will be suited for that role. The other 4 guys you mentioned are a who knows proposition. Not enough PA’s in the Big Leagues to get any sort of reliable read.

Let’s take a look at Gorman for a second. In 2021, he was promoted from Springfield to Memphis. At Springfield he struck out 26.7 % of the time. He had 328 plate appearances at Memphis and struck out 63 times. That’s 19% of the time. In 2022 at Memphis he had 188 plate appearances and struck out 69 times. That’s 36.7%. At the major league level
this season he had 313 plate appearances and struck out 103 times. 32.9%. What happened? Was he pressing too hard since he was promoted so fast as such a young player?

Edmans numbers do not speak for him. You can quote war and all that stuff but he didn’t pass the eyeball test this season for me. His average which I still look at cause I’m old school and don’t care about all the new analytic stuff. If he had been killing it, I don’t think he would have bounced around the lineup the way he did. Even marmol wasn’t impressed and he isn’t that smart. Gorman has time to improve. Im probably never going to be a fan because we already have guys that strike out too much but maybe he can improve.

What happened is big league opponents figured out how to get him out. As of now he is a lefty pull hitter who strikes out too much and cant hit righties. He’s young, so maybe he can develop. He will benefit from rules changes next year, so that will help. He is a top prospect so he will get plenty of reps early on whether he hits or not. That will help too.

1982willie…Who do you think will be the two ’23 opening day middle IF’ers?

I just about agree bccran. But I would prefer a big bat BETWEEN Goldschmidt and Arenado. And preferably a lefthanded hitter. Anybody remember Juan Soto?

Who do I think will be the middle infielders? It’s hard to say. If it was me, I’m keeping edman at short and Donovan at second. Maybe spell Donovan with Gorman at second, he was adequate there though I prefer Gorman get more dh at bats since he needs to work on cutting down strike outs plus I prefer gold glove types on infield though I don’t consider Donovan that. I just prefer donovan in the lineup. I’d let dejong go but the Cardin’s usually take a long time in letting players they owe lots of money go. So if I had to say, I think dejong will be at short starting out with edman at second but it’s not what I want.

Bling…That’s precisely what happened. If there’s a hole in a swing, it doesn’t take long for the opposition to locate it in the Big Leagues. He’ll still only be 22 when the ’23 regular season gets underway, so he’s got plenty of time to bolster his ability to make contact. Heck, with 313 PA’s he’s only stepped into a Big League batters box for about half a season.

1982willie…I could certanly be wrong, but I don’t think you have to worry about DeJong being around with the Cardinals in ’23. You think Eddie will be awarded a GG this off season? I’m guessing he will. And oh…It’s my hope that Donovan gets close to 600 PA’s in ’23 and hopefully is the regular at 2B.

If you had to name one free agent as the most likely to be acquired by the Cards this winter, who is it?

    Bling…Mike Trout.

I don’t think Mike Trout is a free agent. I could see the Cards going after Michael Brantley to be the left handed veteran DH/OF type.

    Michael Brantley.

If they can’t sign Quintana, I could see then going after Michal Wacha.

Dansby Swanson is the one free agent I would like to get! He is a solid Cardinal type player the fans here would love! O’Neill is gonna be Randal Grichuk! Good enough to stay on a roster and tease with his potential but never really break out! 2021 will be the best year he ever has in the pros! Way too many holes in his swing and everyone knows where the weaknesses are now! Gorman has potential but his strike out rate is alarming to say the least! We have tons of guys with potential but very few with real production which is out big problem! Gorman, O’Neill, Carlson, Yepez, Lars, need to either put up are shut up! We will spend years waiting for O’Neill to have another great season just like we have with Dejong!
