Naile really didn’t get enough work for me to have any impression of what he has to offer, but I saw enough of both Naughton and VerHagen to be entirely convinced that it’s best to get up and head to the kitchen for a snack any time they get the baseball.
Gritty left-handed pitchers with 96mph heat sicken me when they strike out the opposition in key situations,too. I’m with you also on hating those high spin rate curve balls. You are spot on in your analysis of Packy and Drew.
Are you actually Jaquin?Johnny certainly hasn’t had any luck concerning the signing of pitchers of either the BP or SP variety, but anyone who watched and is reasonably objective knows what kept them out of the money in Oct. of ’22, and it had not a thing to do with money or contracts.

Defense: Outstanding. Kirk caught a career-high 654 innings in 2022, and his 9 defensive runs saved were tied with Molina for 6th in the majors. Baseball Prospectus ranked him 3rd among MLB catchers with 12 Fielding Runs Above Average. And Kirk was 5th in the majors in pitch-framing, 6th in pitch blocking and 5th in throwing. His caught-stealing rate was slightly above league average at 27 percent; with his slightly above pop time and strong arm, Kirk’s throw-out rate was more of reflection on Toronto’s pitchers.
Neither. I am afraid we are set. The model is to build internal depth to avoid free agency and costly trades.
I would expect a moderate dive into a foreign market.The FO has already stated they would like to add a LH bat. Are they also willing to trade one of our young LH bats?
What have we gained if the FO deals one of Noot, Donovan or Gorman and then backfills with a LH bat acquisition?
I’d GUESS it’s more likely the FO tries to trade O’Neill or Hudson for a catcher and adds the LH bat.
We have also added Gomez to the 40man, which adds improved outfield depth if he is better than DeLuzio. So where are we with Gomez? Could he make the opening day roster if O’Neill (or any starting outfielder) were traded?
In regards to either keeping or trading Woodford. The Cards would be wise to keep him and give him more of a role in 23, as he certainly showed his work in 22. Woodford was this last year on the staff:

But, if the FO stays the course, they will not use him; so I hope for his sake and his career he gets traded to a team that will respect what he can offer. as the Cards clearly have not done to this point.Great post Lee! There is probably analytics that says Woodford is smoke and mirrors, same as Parsons. If so he will have to pitch somewhere with a different computer.
Woodford doesn’t have great velocity or overpowering stuff. He just gets guys out the old fashioned way – by pitching instead of throwing.

I would say Mercado has a better chance of making the opening day roster than Gomez, primarily because of CF defense. Gomez is blocked by O’Neill and Yepez.

There are big differences.
Parsons is 27, more than a year older than Woodford, but wasn’t invited to 2022 big league camp, let alone ever been on the 40-man roster. He has been exceptional for a non-drafted free agent, but Woodford is a former supplemental first rounder who has proven his mettle in the bigs.
Parsons is Rule 5 eligible, so we will learn very soon if any of the other 29 organizations think enough of him to take a chance. If there has been a supposed wrong committed by the Cardinals, it will become clear. Of course, all those other teams have computers, too…
Cards have no chance with Judge. We all knew that. Looks like there’s a good chance he ends up with the Dodgers. They have freed up a ton of $$$ so far, somewhere between $50 and $75 million. Unless he has loyalty to the Yankees I expect him to head west.

An article in today’s local paper quotes the current Cardinal manager as saying there will be a “hands on” approach to “retool” Paul DeJong’s swing. The plan also includes new hitting coach Turner Ward to “construct a swing overhaul for him at the Roger Dean Stadium facility in Jupiter, Florida.” Looks like they expect to have DeJong up and running by opening day. There’s nothing these guys can’t fix with a simple hands on retool and overhaul. I’m reasonably certain they’ll expect big things from him as the starting Redbird SS in ’23.
how many years in a row do we have to hear about DeJong retooling or changing and it’s all gonna work this time?
i will pull for him but any dependence on his bat should be thrown out the door an disregarded
