Cards have no chance with Judge. We all knew that. Looks like there’s a good chance he ends up with the Dodgers. They have freed up a ton of $$$ so far, somewhere between $50 and $75 million. Unless he has loyalty to the Yankees I expect him to head west.
Speaking of this……I cannot see Judge signing with the Giants. Even with him I do not see San Francisco getting past the Dodgers or the Padres. Just too good. Unless, of course, the Giants add on besides Judge.
Would have loved to have seen Judge in a Cardinal uniform..:)

November 21, 2022 at 1:08 pm #207344I wonder how many dollar bills he’ll get?
November 21, 2022 at 2:09 pm #207352MLB Trade Rumors predicts that Judge will get 8 years/$332 million. To put that in perspective the Cardinals are paying Arenado a total of $163 million and Goldy $130 million. There is less than a 1% chance they would be in on Judge.
November 21, 2022 at 4:10 pm #207357I’d say no chance. I’d also say I’ll take either one of our corner IF’ers over Aaron Judge. And I also think that the wise decision for Judge would be to remain a Yankee.

jj-cf-stlParticipantHow about you BW and all? Care to voice an opinion on Moises Gomez readiness to be a 4th outfielder? Would it be fair to include him in a group with Burleson and Yepez? And how is his D?
November 21, 2022 at 4:30 pm #207359Burly and Yepez both had a lot more AAA PAs and put up better AAA production, especially Burly. Unless there is a need, I think Gomez should get another good half season at least in AAA. He did drop off quite a bit when he moved up so maybe he would build toward equaling his AA production. If so, he’s another Burleson.
November 21, 2022 at 4:50 pm #207360Yeah, I think there is no chance the Cardinals will pursue Judge due to affordability. No doubt he had a great year this year. However, he has had one ability that he has struggled with over the course of his career – availability (ages 26, 27 and 28 seasons). Next season will be his age 31 season. IMO, the winner of this bidding contest is taking on a lot of risk with an eight-year deal.
November 21, 2022 at 5:25 pm #207362Yep, Fielder or a long list of others. These teams that sign these guys for up to a decade for pallet loads of cash after they’ve featured a couple of outstanding seasons are not at all unlike a woman who goes window shopping for designer purses. They just don’t seem to be able to contain themselves. They simply don’t have the ability to walk in the other direction without taking the overpriced handbag home with them.
November 21, 2022 at 6:08 pm #207365I think the Giants would be the team Judge prefers, since he grew up near that area. But the Giants’ management is usually pretty shrewd and may not want to commit the market rate to a guy who should trend downward in production. Still you might get a good 2 or 3 years and if one of those brings a ring, maybe that pays for the last half of the deal.
He just seems like a natural Yankee though. Hope he works out a deal there.
November 21, 2022 at 6:55 pm #207368Yeah, those pinstripes make him look even taller.
November 21, 2022 at 9:14 pm #207369Judge is supposedly in San Francisco to talk with the Giants.
The Dodgers are also rumored to be interested in throwing $$$ at Judge and just letting Gavin Lux be their main shortstop.
Jose Abreu is rumored to be interested in San Diego.
All of this from the MLB Channel.

November 22, 2022 at 11:42 am #207407I don’t know about the rest of you posters but I think Bellinger would be a great addition. I think it would be good to have him hitting between Goldschmidt and Arenado. And patrolling centerfield for us.
The MLB Channel said something last night about Toronto is interested in Bellinger.

November 22, 2022 at 4:09 pm #207418I am pro Bellinger on a one year prove it deal. He is an elite defender and I think Turner Ward could help him at the plate.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWhat was Bellingers batting average last season Ratsbuddy?
November 22, 2022 at 4:19 pm #207420And he is a former ROY and NL MVP winner with a GG while playing CF. He won’t turn 28 until the middle of next season so, with a new team and surroundings, he may find his swing and start ripping the baseball with authority regardless of who his hitting coach is. A couple of comments have compared some of his recent numbers with those of Paul DeJong. I understand the reasons for pointing that out, but in my view they’re entirely different types of players. I don’t think DeJong will ever possess the potential offensive firepower of Bellinger.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWith a bum shoulder.
November 22, 2022 at 4:42 pm #207424Well, that’s certainly something to consider, but by the time the ’23 season gets underway, he’ll have had about two years to recover. I’m not implying that he’s without risk, but best I can tell he’s after a one year deal. He’s still a young man, so he could well retain enough resiliency to recover from injury and bounce back. Like almost anything else, the amount of money he expects would obviously play into any attempt to sign him up.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI’d prefer we try to improve by acquiring players coming off of productive season(s), not reclamation projects.
I hope Bellinger turns it around, but his name value from 3 to 5 yrs ago means nothing to me. I’m good with Carlson in CF.
November 22, 2022 at 5:09 pm #207430Carlson’s okay with me too at this juncture, but in my view, next season will be crucial to his career with the Cardinals. I’m entirely certain he knows he’ll have to feature some above average offensive production in ’23. Regarding Bellinger, I have no problem at all with passing on him, but it also wouldn’t bother me if he signed on for one year with the Redbirds. Of course, I’m just a fan. I’m not signing his paycheck.

jj-cf-stlParticipantAt some point the FO has to also consider outfield roster spots. They have the three starters and Burleson, with Walker making noise everywhere he plays.
So depending on your view of Burleson, wouldn’t Bellinger bump Burleson to AAA?
Now if the FO acquired an outfielder who could bench any of our starters, I’d welcome that addition, but not for a project (Cody).
I’m hoping the FO is targeting additions that help put us “over the top”. I don’t think of Bellinger that way, not today.
November 22, 2022 at 5:47 pm #207434Well, they may have 3 starters, but each one of them are questionable and even though I like him, Nootz hasn’t yet convinced me that he’s more than a 4th OF’er. In regards to Burleson, I didn’t get enough looks at him to have any sort of stance. But, you’re right, there’s only so much room on a roster and for that matter, the entire Big Leagues. I guess it’s one of the primary reasons that a chance to play in the ML’s is a million to one shot.
November 22, 2022 at 5:57 pm #207435Carlson probably has the most trade value amongst our outfielders and OF prospects apart from Walker. But we don’t have great CF coverage if he’s gone, unless an everyday CF comes back. I guess if we signed Bellinger, maybe Carlson could be more likely to get traded. The idea being if he stunk at the plate he would be more of a defensive replacement. But in that case we wouldn’t have the LH bat Mo wants. I wouldn’t think that is a desirable scenario. If he rebounded, though, it would be epic.
November 22, 2022 at 6:10 pm #207436I don’t know, Bling. I could sure be wrong, but I’d think there’s a few teams that would lick their chops at the idea of the power potential and GG of O’Neill over Carlson in a trade if he can stay on the field. At any rate, I don’t think Bellinger will man up in the Cardinal OF in ’23, but I wouldn’t mind it if he did. I’d also probably be the first one to gripe if he were a total bust…Haha!
November 22, 2022 at 6:26 pm #207437Yeah, like everyone else, I want them to win a WS Championship. Regarding additions that have a good chance at vaulting this ballclub “Over the top” so to speak, I’m sure everyone agrees that those additions would have to include a top shelf SP’er and a catcher that has proven that he can provide good offensive production along with above average defense for around 130 games behind HP. I really don’t see the Cardinal bosses satisfying both those needs this winter. At any rate, I still think they can win the NLC with what they presently have. After that, it’ll be just like this past season. Roll the dice and hope you stay at the table long enough to have a chance.
November 22, 2022 at 7:02 pm #207439I’ve said this for months, all money needs to go to an ace or two and if anything is leftover, add elsewhere. I wouldn’t be surprised if the lineup is set minus catcher.
