Would you trade Tyler O’Neill(a Canadian) to Toronto for Danny Jansen?
November 18, 2022 at 2:04 pm #207108Yes I would.
November 18, 2022 at 2:15 pm #207109My only glimpse of Jansen was viewed just now on a quick look at him on BR. Based on that limited view, I’d say no. However, I’ll also say, that in 13 post-season AB’s, he looks like Johnny Bench…Haha!
November 18, 2022 at 2:33 pm #207110Well, they are about the same age with Jansen’s 2022 WAR being 2.9 and O’Neill’s being 1.3. Now we know that O’Neill’s problem is that he can’t stay healthy. IMO, a healthy O’Neill is what you are looking for in an outfielder with both power and speed. It is clearly a gamble to trade him and he is not a free agent until 2025. He is also a client of Scott Boras.

stlcard25ParticipantI would not trade O’Neill for Jansen. Jansen is not a full time catcher. He’s an upgrade over Knizner, but the downgrade from O’Neill could be pretty big. It seems like the perfect deal for Noot though…Jansen and a prospect.
November 18, 2022 at 2:56 pm #207113Jansen did post a 141 OPS+ last year, and has a career 98. He fills one of the Cardinals’ needs, but creates another one if we were to trade O’Neil for him.
Blue Jays are also looking for a left-handed bat for their outfield (as are the Cardinals).

Give them Carlson. ‘He’s young, he’ll be fine’.
November 18, 2022 at 3:15 pm #207115I just feel that trading O’Neill for almost anyone is a gamble. He’s not only a good OF’er, but there’s also a genuine chance that if you discard him and he stays on the field for his new team, he could quite possibly go ore-ida tater happy and rip close to 40 HR’s. Then you’re all sad because you have the position player version of an Alcantara trade.
November 18, 2022 at 3:31 pm #207116According to Baseball Trade Values Jansen has a value of 26.6, O’Neill has a value of 24.5, and Noot has a value of 32.8.
November 18, 2022 at 3:39 pm #207117gs, that is fine but O’Neill is the most talented of the 3 IMO. His problem is injuries…if injury free he could be an MVP-type player.
November 18, 2022 at 3:41 pm #207118I wonder if Baseball Trade Values ever watch any of the games?

ParticipantThe bullpen is pretty well set with Helsley, Gallegos, Hicks, Stratton, Pallante, Hudson, and Woodford from the right side and Thompson, Romero, Naughton, and Cabrera from the left side.
An interesting question, though, is which of the following will be in the bullpen at Busch and which will be staying stretched out at Memphis –
Hudson
Pallante
Liberatore
ThompsonNovember 18, 2022 at 3:44 pm #207120Pallante and Thompson will be in St. Louis.
November 18, 2022 at 4:07 pm #207122gs, that is fine but O’Neill is the most talented of the 3 IMO. His problem is injuries…if injury free he could be an MVP-type player.
I agree but he has to prove he can stay healthy.
November 18, 2022 at 4:12 pm #207124Every year is different, if GM’s had a crystal ball they would never make mistakes.
November 18, 2022 at 4:17 pm #207125The only way possible for a GM to never make a mistake is to do absolutely nothing. Just like the Cardinal GM…
November 18, 2022 at 4:21 pm #207126How is signing Goldschmidt & Arenado doing nothing?
November 18, 2022 at 4:33 pm #207127The best I can tell, the median salary for a Big League GM is around $150,000 anually. If that’s indeed anywhere near being the case, the Cardinal GM has a bird’s nest on the ground type of a job. I mean, he never receives any criticism. I can’t even tell that he does anything. You never see him. You never hear him. Nothing from this guy. Does he even really exist? I genuinely feel as though I could do his job, unless of course, he’s really some sort of deep cover type secret agent who travels abroad to gather security intel for the Redbirds or even the U.S. Government…This guy has it made!
November 18, 2022 at 4:36 pm #207128GameCard…I thought Johnny signed Goldy and Nado?
November 18, 2022 at 4:40 pm #207129You know how it works?
November 18, 2022 at 4:44 pm #207130I would be OK with an OF of O’Neill, Carlson, Nootbaar on opening day. Hoping for 2021 O’Neill and Carlson seems at least as promising as any alternatives we presently have. Get Burly and Yepez some reps in OF and DH, keep an eye on Walker at AAA. See how things go. But it seems like one or more of the above may end up being trade bait.
November 18, 2022 at 4:44 pm #207131GameCard…Not entirely, but I’ve got an inkling. I do know that the Cardinal GM had absolutely nothing to do with signing Goldy and Nado…
November 18, 2022 at 4:49 pm #207132Mo is running the show now as he did then.
November 18, 2022 at 5:09 pm #207133Reyes and Deluzio non-tendered
November 18, 2022 at 5:13 pm #207136GameCard…That’s my impression as well. The current Redbird GM never once made a mistake. How could he?
