Right now Goldschmidt is weighing the team down…. just like Wainwright did to the rotation last season. Maybe Goldschmidt needs a trip to the IL. It won’t help him much, but at least we won’t have him in the middle of the line-up for a while.

They aren’t going to pay Goldschmidt to sit on the IL any more than they are going to pay him to sit on the bench. (Unless he is actually hurt of course. )

    stlcard25 asked:

is trading Arenado seeming like an actual thing, or is it just wishful thinking by fans?

The latter. Be prepared for weeks and weeks of speculation ahead.

Go with this set lineup for a while vs RHP and LHP. It may be the Cardinals best chance of generating more offense.
    1) Winn SS
    2) Donovan LF
    3) Burleson DH
    4) Arenado 3B
    5) Contreras C
    6) Pham RF
    7) Goldschmidt 1B
    8) Gorman 2B
    9) Nootbaar CF

Arenado isn’t old enough for this massive loss of production due to age. If it’s due to injury, I have empathy for that. Is it his head? I have empathy for that too. Or is it friction between him and the front office. Whatever it is, it has to be dealt with.

Burleson isn’t an everyday mob. Sheesh.

    ^^^^^^

    Contreras .852 OPS.
    Burleson .771 OPS.

Yet some posters would bat Burly 3rd and Wily-Con 5th?

Oh, it gets better! That same poster would bat Burly 3rd with his .512 OPS against lefties.

Can’t make this stuff up it’s so crazy!

“Go with this set lineup for a while vs RHP and LHP. It may be the Cardinals best chance of generating more offense.”

    (wRC+ vs LHP in 2024/Career)
    1) Winn SS (109/91)
    2) Donovan LF (71/86)
    3) Burleson DH (43/50)
    4) Arenado 3B (89/136)
    5) Contreras C (153/134)
    6) Pham RF (144/130)
    7) Goldschmidt 1B (123/168)
    8) Gorman 2B (72/98)
    9) Nootbaar CF (75/97)

    Players not in lineup:
    Matt Carpenter (124/114)
    Brandon Crawford (68/89)
    Pedro Pages (55/55)
    Herrera (89/79)

The three best hitters v. LHP batting #5-7, and another sitting on the bench. Meanwhile, a guy who has been 57% worse than league average vs LHP is batting 3rd. Of course, I’ve shown you these numbers before, so at this point it can’t be attributed to anything other than willful ignorance.

When are you going to hold Burleson to the same standards you hold everyone else to?

Arenado makes no sense. Too young to lose all his power.

I’m guessing it has to be an injury. Either way…no other team will want him, so we must hope & pray for a big bounce-back type of season in 2025.

Now, here’s me thinking way outside the box! What if for 2025 Nado is moved to first (where he’s an instant defensive stud) and we give third to a young player like Gorman, Prieto, or Saggese? This would leave Burly to DH and Walker to continue in RF.

Crazy, I know…but…stranger moves have happened.

KCB, do you consider Goldschmidt and Arenado viable MOBs?

It’s not crazy AdM. It’s proactive. I understand he probably isn’t tradeable. I had a really good boss that always said- “Do something- even if it’s wrong”

Contreras hasn’t been the productive bat needed at 3, lately. Especially, vs LHP. Too many Ks, lately for a #2 or #3 hitter. Put him at 5 to relieve some pressure.

RBK, yet, recently, some notable professional baseball commentators. Not internet Cardinals MB posters that I know of. Have claimed Burleson is the best hitter on the team and the most dangerous hitter on the team. They must not pay the attention to stats that some internet posters dwell on. Isn’t it kind of odd that some notable professional analysts think more highly of Burleson than many Average Joe MB posters do?

Commentators are paid to pimp the Cards.

The statistics are unbiased and take all emotion as well as favoritism out of the equation!

I’ll pick players based on actual & verifiable production all day long. You stick with your Cardinal press box banalities & platitudes.

    July/August vs LHP:
    Contreras: 104 wRC+
    Burleson: 34 wRC+

    July/August Overall:
    Contreras: 138 wRC+
    Burleson: 116 wRC+

Yeah but, Jim Edmonds said watching Burly hit gives him a stiffy an well, that overrules all your meaningless data…doesn’t it?

AdM, so I should place more credibility in what you post than what Joe Buck, Jim Edmonds, Mark Sweeney, Al Hrabosky, Chip Caray, etc. say regarding what they see in Burleson. It ain’t gonna happen. The difference is. You see numbers, they see raw hitting ability.

You should use your brain and the plethora of available data. Raw hitting ability is a meaningless platitude. Things like OPS or OBP represent actual production.

I don’t know buddy…at your age, I shouldn’t have to explain this to you.

AdM, feels, “Commentators are paid to pimp the Cards”. Frankly, I haven’t heard notable professional Cardinals’ baseball commentators “pimp”, as you post, Gorman, Walker and even, Contreras, recently, like they have Burleson. Wonder why that is.

I think that discussing the lineup from here to the end is largely meaningless. Shuffling these pieces around is not going to make any difference. We might speculate about next year, but its way early to try to guess what the FO will do to the roster.

Shady-I repeatedly post that they both need to be shot out of the saddle. So no.

Folks, you are getting dangerously close to re-starting the old personal insults cycle and shutting down another thread. I feel like a broken record, but for the life of me, I do not understand why you keep doing it. You already know how the discussion will go before you even engage.

KCB, So if not Goldschmidt, Arenado and Burleson. Who do you suggest as viable MOBs, right now? Brian, please chime in. Who do you feel should be hitting 3 thru 5 for the Cardinals, right now? No insults intended, just a very timely question with the way the offense is struggling.

You were given the correct data the team would use, over the last couple pages, from very knowledgeable posters.

No need to ask a third time, the answer hasn’t changed.

So, from all the brilliant data, please lay it out. Who should be batting 3, 4, and 5 for the Cardinals now? It looks to me, those with the better stats haven’t been too effective, lately.
