Why would you ask other forum members for their views on lineups when you just got done dismissing them as simply “Average Joe internet Cardinals MB posters” who aren’t “notable professional baseball analysts and commentators” more worthy of your consideration?

    And now you’ve asked a 4th time 😀
It was funny when my kids did too.

RBK, it humors me. All of us amateur posters can post our thoughts. We are fans on an innocent MB. As long as there are no personal attacks. I don’t like that at all. Though I sometimes react after being attacked. I’m trying to be more resiliant.

You can’t have it both ways, Shady. You can’t dismiss other people’s posts by condescendingly calling them “Average Joe internet Cardinals MB posters” who aren’t “notable professional baseball analysts and commentators” (as you did on the prior page), and then in the next breath say your views are worth posting because we’re all “just fans on an innocent MB.”

Also, posts that straightforwardly present facts and data that you happen to not like because they don’t fit your preferred narrative aren’t “attacks.”

RBK, that’s ridiculous, I’m an amateur poster here like all likely are. We share opinions. But, how can Average Joe posters here, pompously, feel they are more accomplished than professional baseball commentators? That’s what I’m getting at.

I haven’t given up on Goldy and Arenado. They’re proven long term productive major leaguers hitters. And all around players with multiple Gold Gloves. Their overall excellence isn’t matched by any other players on the team. Young hitters in the lineup probably look upon them with respectful awe.

RBK, posted, “Also, posts that straightforwardly present facts and data that you happen to not like because they don’t fit your preferred narrative aren’t “attacks.” ” You are correct. But some have bad intentions. They slip in personal attacks. Those are the “attacks” I’m referring to.

I’ve been following Big League baseball for a minute or two and in that time I’ve come across countless professional baseball commentators that I would term as being entirely insufferable. Rarely is the mute feature disengaged when I’m watching a baseball game.

Well Mr Shady, let’s put it this way….

Nancy Pelosi, an accomplished, professional politician stated, “To characterize Tim Walz is so unreal. It’s just not, he’s right down the middle. He’s a Heartland of America Democrat.”

Now, the record of the esteemed governor of the Great State of Minnesota, says he’s one of the most left-leaning governors in the country.

So, who do I believe? The professional politician or the facts? I mean, who am I or who are you to argue with a former Speaker of the House? After all, she’s the expert. The professional.

A lot of people aren’t aware of this, but during her days spent in the bush leagues Nancy was once involved in a bench clearing brawl in which she was accused of surreptitiously stealing Hillary’s athletic supporter…

Folks, while I am sure the politician/political references are well-intentioned, they must stop right now. It is expressly against the posted site rules.

As to giving credence to employees of the team in their praise of said team and its’ players, Brad Thompson gave us a reminder during last night’s game during a review of a Rays runner taking second base on a close play.

“Well he looks out to me, but I wear my Cardinal-colored glasses, so what do you expect?”

This is a long-tested approach to aid in continuing one’s employment. (I am surprised I had to explain this to a long time fan, though…)

I need closed captioning to understand the television. I turn them off when I watch baseball.

AdM, you do make a solid point with the political analogy. However, baseball is the theme here.

Brian, good point. However, I feel the admiration these types have expressed for Burleson’s hitting ability seems genuine. Like with me, I feel they are thrilled to have a hitting talent that can help the Cardinals win.

Burly has been great, and we all know that. But your support/defense of him can be over the top and the way you address others’ views at times clearly gets them upset. It is great you supported him from the start when others didn’t, but you have already taken bows for it multiple times in multiple threads. Don’t you have anything else to discuss? To say this topic has been beaten into the ground is making a huge understatement. Having said that, I know a new Burly thread will just pop up somewhere else. But as long as others choose to engage the subject, which is up to them, I will step back aside and let folks keep spinning in the same circles – as long as you’all don’t break the site rules. My burden is that I have to read everything to ensure the discussion doesn’t go off the rails.

Having said that, here is a reminder of one of the posted site rules.

“Posters who make repetitive posts without providing substantiation or adding value to the discussion at hand may be subject to warnings as stated below, including removal of posts and suspension from the forums.”

A Burleson/Baker platoon at 1B next season sure makes sense.

I am not a Mod but I will give my two cents.

Bringing up the same topic/player over and over is nothing more than extreme narcissim. Asking or begging other posters to giver thir opinion is nothing more than a plea to keep the thread going. It seems like a desperate attempt for attention. This is a cardinal board, not a personal therapy session.

For those who like to slip in politcal comments ever so innocuously just keep in mind that is a slippery slope and also keep in mind that there is a very high likelihood that there is not 100% agreement of political views on this board (believe it or not) so things could get derailed in a big hurry if restraint is not used.

gscottar, This is just an innocent baseball message board that should be just for fun. Try not to over-analyze the personal aspect and/or over-react.

Shady, you could learn a lot from the veteran posters here, if only you were open to it. But it seems to be wasted breath/keystrokes. We obviously take this place and the discussions here more seriously than you do.

Sorry to offend. IMO, baseball message boards sometime seem more complicated than necessary. It seems really easy for regular posters to just ignore what’s not appealing to them. As the monitor, that’s quite different.

We take this board seriously as a place for intelligent Cardinals discussion. I think you should be well aware of that by now. Either you need to figure out how to better fit in or seek another place that is better suited for how you post and interact. A place that is not as well moderated and tolerates a less serious approach. I am not trying to be insulting, but being less than direct hasn’t worked. There is a well-established pattern that isn’t changing for the better and you are in the center of it. As you can see from the above example, some of our regular posters are weary of it.

Sorry that I am so inferior to such an esteemed group of “intelligent” Cardinals posters. I’ll try just viewing and refrain from posting for a while.

Yeah, at the end of the day it’s not all that important. And if you can’t have a few laughs and a little bit of fun, what’s the use in buying her a drink or two?
