Brendan Donovan for Brayan Bello. Who says no?

    Boston.

I think Bello is a part of their rotation in 2026, and if you take him out, you have to replace him.

It looks like Bregman is their #1 choice, followed by Ketel Marte. They still need right-handed hitters in their lineup.

As CIFCT said, the Cardinals would also be wasting two years of Bello.

I just don’t see this as a deal that would even merit beyond a cursory discussion.

I do see the Rangers as a possible landing spot for Donovan.

The trade of Semien for Nimmo opens up 2B. Nimmo + Donovan is cheaper than Semien and will produce more WAR, so they improve the team, plus lower payroll. And they have a bunch of pitchers in their Top 10, though none of them are Top 100 prospects.

I would say no as the Cards for Donovan for Bello. I would be okay happy keeping Donovan around and wouldn’t want to trade 2 years of him for 3 years of Bello. Bello K% and SwStr% dropped a good amount and his FIP shows he had a lot of good luck this year and will most likely pitch like a #4 going forward.

If I’m trading Donovan it is for a player or multiple players with 5-6 years of control. Donovan does have quite good trade value and would net a top 100 type prospect. Although I’ve flip flopped on trading him. I like Donovan but would trade him if the right deal appeared, but would be happy keeping him too. He plays the game hard and the team could in theory be in contention in 27.

I think you could get at the minimum 3 prospects for donovan, maybe 4. Good prospects too. Since this team isnt anywhere near competing for anything major, we dont need to try to get a good to go now pitcher for him since he would be wasted. You can find plenty of serviceable arms for very little money to fill gaps now.

    Stl shouldn’t.

2/48.2mil of field value (24’&25′) on 2/15mil future salaries (26’&27′)
    33.2mil surplus
    vs
    2/31.3mil field value (24-25′) =
    4/62.6 (26-29′) on 4/51mil future salaries.
    11.6mil surplus

    Not close.

Brendan Donovan buy out remaining arb years and 3 fa years 5 years 60 mil. Do ya?

IMO the only legit reason to trade Donovan is to get younger players with more years of control, and preferably RH hitters with defensive usefulness, OF ideally. Not somebody who will price out in a couple years.

Edman got 5/75mil. First comp that came to mind.

I think Tommy had higher value at the time-plus that was the Dodgers. Doubtful anyone else would have offered that. He had just been an integral part to a world championship. He got paid. I think Im with Bling on this. Whatever we get needs to be right handed.

And LA bought 4 FA seasons of Edman, buying out just one arb season.

74mil minus the 9.5mil arb3 season is 16mil per FA season on Edman.

Donny at 2/15mil future arbs, and 3/48mil for 3 FA seasons would be 5/63mil. Yep ballpark there Fenton 😀

Edman was coming off a 91 OPS+ season and was not going to be ready to play opening day. Donovan coming off 119+ and should be ready to play.

Looking at the Red Sox fan sites, people over there are convinced the Red Sox are okay exceeding the first luxury tax tier, but are trying to stay under the second tier.

The Cardinals could take back Patrick Sandoval (Bloom loves injured starting pitchers). in a Donovan trade to increase the prospect return for Donovan.

I would be OK with 5/$60 and keeping Donovan. If the Cardinals are not going to sign him to an extension, they NEED to trade him this off-season. Mo was too fond of keeping players until they had poor trade value. I hope Bloom is better than that.

Not sure what that really means. The Dodgers gave a guy 500 mil who wasn’t going to be able to pitch for an entire season. This is the Dodgers we are talking about. I think Tommy profiled as a better player than Donovan. He had 15 war after 4 seasons. Donavan is 11. Clearly Donovan is a better player today than Tommy if that’s the point. Tommy was wayyyyy over paid by the Dodgers. No one else would have spent close to that. I would be shocked if Donovan ever sees that kind of money.

Edman is our best in-house comp, and how KCB seperated their differences, has a lot of merit.

If Donovan were a free agent today, what’s the best contract he could command? Comp?

A possible extension should be less than his FA amount above, w/2 arb seasons reducing the FA years cost, some (60% of one FA seasons cost saved). But still, the player needs his future FA salaries to match the market. Comp?

Bill’s wallet still remembers extending DeJong ahead of time.

Donny does qualify as a “short-term sacrifice” too. There were 9 players with 3yrs of control or less, before free agency started, and now that number has been whittled to 7, with May making it 8 short-termers.

To clarify, Bello is under contract for 4 years with an option for a 5th year.

Saw a report that the Dodgers would offer Ryan, George, and Morales. I’d take that deal if it were presented to the Cardinals. Not sure they’d offer that much though.

If the Dodgers offered Morales and Ryan alone, De-lost-his-wallet should fly Donnie out there on his own jet.

I’d throw in Jojo actually to get that done. Morales is the Dodgers Rainiel Rodriguez. Him staying at SS is highly unknown, but the Cards need a 3B in 2028-2035 right?

I would like to know who reported that trade. It would be a good trade for the Cardinals if that was the return for just Donovan. I think I would try to get Sirota instead of George. I’m sure the Cardinals would have to sweeten their side of the deal, though.
