    .300 / .364 / .800 / 1.164

A four digit OPS from Bader in CF would be awesome.
“no one really wants CF” is definitely hmmmmmm material

I suppose we could find a way to live with that and his Gold Glove level defense. 😁

You guys are just flossing over the fact that he struck out a few times. Eye roll.

Bader w/two more hits, no K’s
    O’Neill w/2 BB’s, 1 K

I’ll say again, O’Neills BB/K and slg% will define his season. The two BB’s are a welcome sight.

while I haven’t tracked every players stats, its a good bet almost everyone has struck out a few times. And will have done so even more by the end of spring training. Bader is going to strike out a lot, that isn’t going to change. You just hope he returns to more like his 2018 form, add in his continued elite defense and all is set. He is always gonna be a low end of the batting order guy, and those guys aren’t meant to lead your team offensively to victory. Its the positions 1 through 6 that really need to come through there.

I don’t have a problem with Bader hitting .290 and leading off. I don’t think Bader would mind that either.

well I don’t see bader hitting 290 though I really like him, not saying that out of any hate. but if he does hit 290 for any amount of time, definitely put him in that leadoff spot.

Bader’s on record saying he knows he can hit. Might as well give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.

Bader’s BA at AAA was .275 in 715 plate appearances. He struck out 24% of the time. At the major league level, he’s hit .236 in 925 plate appearances. Has struck out
29% of the time. Last season he hit a Mendoza .205. Can you really expect that much of a turnaround?
Not trying to be negative. Just realistic.

I don’t think it’s realistic to expect a major turn around. But that’s not to say a it couldn’t happen. He feels good about all the work he did during the offseason, and he’s having a good spring so far. A BA of .275 with a SO rate of 24% isn’t completely unrealistic, and that in itself would be a major turn around.

From .205 to .275 would be a massive turnaround. Especially since his career MLB average is .236.
I just hope his overconfidence has been cured as much as his swing.

If Bader could hit .250 with an OBP of .350 the Cardinals would take that in a heartbeat.

The thing is if you are an elite defensive player, you don’t have to hit for a high average or produce a lot of other offensive stats. Its when you aren’t that type of defensive player that you have to step up your hitting. 260 to 275 would be outstanding for bader. 240 to 260 would still be ok in the ball era we are playing when you consider what he can do in the field and on the bases. He is still going to strike out a lot but that’s why he is batting low in the order. Its the other guys in more prime positions in the order that need to step up.

I don’t care how good defensively you are in centerfield. a .205 BA and 29% K rate isn’t going to hack it. I just hope it’s not Peter Bourjos/Pete Kozma II.

Bit of a stretch to get to decent for this OF. Too many ??? This isn’t good.

Bader knows better than anybody that a .205 BA with a 29% K rate isn’t going to hack it. That’s why he’s been working on his hitting, and his bunting, all winter. Expect the best, be prepared for the worst.

Me thinks that uni numbering guy may know something. Carlson seems to have come down to just magnificent from Godly but, in my mind, he is still one heck of a player who looks very comfortable on offense and defense. Had to smile when that great outfielder Ricky Horton put some criticism on Carlson on a long ball hit to center. You can imagine how many hard hit balls to center Ricky has had to track.

Speaking of Ricky, he still has that disease he had last year – diarrhea of the mouth. Starts about the 6th inning and spreads to Danny Mac also when they seem to think the game is over and it’s time to play ‘Back in the day.’ So I am glad that I greased up the mute button because as nice a guy Ricky is I can’t stand his prattling.

Not sure Rick can tone it down. He’s one of those people who talks a lot. Professionally and socially.
    But you’re right. He’s a terrific person.

It’s spring so the numbers are to be taken with a grain of salt. Still, I’ve thought for some time now that the best OF by the end of this year will be O’Neill-Bader-Carlson with Thomas, Fowler and Ravelo fighting for backup/pinch hit at bats.

Brian, what we really want to know it…how good were the guys that Albert faced in 2001?
