November 25, 2023 at 6:09 pm #238152Tough break for Oviedo. I like him and think he can be a good one as he gains experience and maturity.
The White Sox really do not want to bring back Tim Anderson, as they are showing by bringing in one of the worst offensive shortstops in recent memory in Paul DeJong.

ParticipantI wish these guys well. I hope dejong can get his mojo back. Ravelo I always thought should at least be a decent dh. That is a bad setback for Oviedo.
December 1, 2023 at 1:33 pm #238700Who knows if he is really available or if this is just idle chatter but it would be interesting if he was.

December 2, 2023 at 1:01 pm #238765Interesting on Arozarena, and a “nice problem to have” for the Rays. Unless they can get some high upside pitching for him, I doubt Randy goes anywhere just yet.
December 2, 2023 at 1:05 pm #238766Free-agent reliever Joe Kelly and the Los Angeles Dodgers are “very close” to an agreement, according to sources familiar with the situation. All indications are that a deal will get done.

December 6, 2023 at 7:58 pm #239184If the Nats have enough sense to not play Yepez in the outfield, he could do well. I don’t know how they’re fixed at 1B/DH.
December 6, 2023 at 8:13 pm #239186He gave the Cardinals a good chance to secure a W in game 1 of the ’22 NLWC, but the Redbird manager didn’t have enough sense to remove the baseball from an injured pitcher’s hand before it was too late…Sorry, I know it’s redundant, but I’ll never be able to forget watching that game being given away.

cardsfan64ParticipantBrian, I noticed that Freddy Pacheco is a free agent after Detroit DFA’d him. Any chance the cards could bring him back on a minor league contract, or is he still injured? Seems like the type of pitcher we need, if healthy.
December 7, 2023 at 10:52 am #239236I have no new insight on Pacheco. My guess is that teams will wait until midseason when he can throw again and evaluate him at that time. Paying him at least half a season of salary just for him to rehab doesn’t seem likely for a non-40-man roster player. If anyone would do that, I would have expected it to be the Tigers.

Plus he pulled Q too early – the guy was pitching really well. Hopefully Quintana comes back next year – the Mets had more go wrong than we did.
December 12, 2023 at 7:14 am #239659Victor Jose Davalillo Romero……Dead At Age 84. What long time Cardinal fan could forget how Harry pronounced Vic’s last name? Dava-leechio. RIP both Vic and Harry.

December 14, 2023 at 4:58 pm #239805MLB Network is utterly clueless. They honestly believe that Ozzie is not one of the Top 9 shortstops in MLB since 1947. Wow!

December 14, 2023 at 5:20 pm #239807Its obvious that they are focusing on offense, with OK fielding being good enough. Garciaparra is a good example.
December 14, 2023 at 6:14 pm #239808Did a quick perusal looking at just WAR and Ozzie outdid many of the guys on the list, including Banks and Ernie only played about half his career as a shortstop. Those were his best years though.
I remember Victor Jose Davilillo real well. Was at a game as a teenager where he singled in the tenth driving in a run for the Pirates to give Rick Wise a tough-luck 2-1 loss. That was back when starters would stay out there if they were going good.
