Richie “Dick” Allen was one of my favorites from my youthful days. I never liked the deal we did trading him away for Ted Sizemore, as that smacked of the infamous “Colavito/Kuenn” deal of a decade before.
When you think “what if”, the ‘72 Cardinals were a sub-.500 team while former members won the NL Cy Young (Steve Carlton) and AL MVP (Allen).

Looks like the return for Lynn is Dane Dunning and a lefty prospect. Seems like a good deal for the White Sox.
There’s a good baseball trade. Lynn as a rental fits with a contender and Dunning is better off with the Rangers rebuilding because they have the playing time to commit to his development.
Lynn has just one season remaining on his contract, so this is a win-now deal.
Interesting story how Lynn threatened to opt out last season if he was traded to a team for which did not want to pitch.

Yep, win now, and I’ll never bash a club for upgrading if they are legitimately in that position. Dunning actually started game 3 in the CWS wild card series (2020).
