Tough one for Tui. I always liked him and think he has the potential to be an elite bullpen guy.

Have been watching the surprising Oakland Athletics rise in the standings. I am a bit of a Mariners fan, and they have played well all year and am enjoying seeing Marco Gonzales do well. But Oakland has passed them by, so I was curious as to how our buddy Stephen Piscotty is playing.

He has done alright – nothing spectacular, but okay; 29 doubles, 15 homers. OPSing around .760. His WAR is not all that great because he is a defensive liability, but he has bounced back with the bat to some degree. At this point I think we got the better of the deal for him with Munoz and Schrock, but good to see Piscotty playing pretty good and his team doing well.

The A’s are absolutely on fire. Not only should the Yankees worry about losing the fist wild card spot maybe the Astros should be looking in their review mirror. Sometimes objects are closer than they appear.

It is not only the Nats who are having bullpen troubles. It has hit even the big-money Dodgers.

The Dodgers got Machado and Dozier at the deadline but did nothing (except Axford) to address their bullpen problems. That was very puzzling. They may not even win their division now.

I don’t know if anyone has been. Pricing but Nick Martini has been playing really well for the A’s in his role.

I was bummed when he departed even if I understood why. Solid player

Tommy Pham came back from injury for the Rays, had himself a 3-4 game…and then dislocated his ring finger.

Wow. That’s terrible news. Pham and Diaz (mentioned earlier) are a couple of my favs.

It appears Holliday will be activated by the Rockies today, just in time for our arrival.

Good for Robert Stock. He at least gets to play the game he loves. I remember when the Cardinals drafted him as a catcher, they wanted him to learn how to pitch. But he told them he wanted play catcher because he would ‘get to play every game’. So they let him catch and he failed. It cost him a lot of money to not listen to his advisors. But at least it looks like it it working out in the end.

LOL at Pete’s resilience, he is consistent. Was thinking about him a couple days ago. I’m sure he is very familiar with the DFA/outrighting process, having gone though it with four different teams. When the Tigers added him to their roster in May this year, he hit a HR in his first plate appearance. Does that ring a bell? Seems like I remember he did something similar for the Cards when they first brought him up.

Former Cardinal Dan Kiekhefer promoted by the A’s and pitched a shutout inning vs the Yankees.
