Not only is Matt Bowman still out there, but the Orioles just added him to their roster for tonight’s game!

Ryan Loutos, who the Dodgers acquired from the Cardinals for cash on May 1, was claimed off outright waivers by the Nationals.

Jordan Hicks is moving to the Red Sox from the Giants in the Rafael Devers trade. Hicks spent the first month and a half in SF’s rotation, but was removed in mid-May with a 6.55 ERA. Maybe he can figure it out in Boston…

    Per transaction page:

06/15/25 – Tampa Bay Rays signed free agent RHP Ryan Shreve to a minor league contract.
06/15/25 – Detroit Tigers designated RHP John Brebbia for assignment.
06/16/25 – Washington Nationals designated 1B Juan Yepez for assignment.

Thought Yepez would be a good hitter – a DH type along the lines of Burleson with more home run power, but even worse glove. Seems like Pujols helped him a lot, and when Albert retired Juan’s production kind of stagnated.

If Yepez never plays another game in the Big Leagues he can always take solace in the fact that in post-season play he’s 2 for 5 with a HR, 2 RBI’s, a .400 BA and a .1000 SLG. Not even Pujols can boast those sorts of numbers…

From looking at Juan’s photos with the Naturals it appears that his personal trainer was Lance Lynn. He is going to need to get into better shape if he wants to stay in the bigs. I wish him well though.

Yeah 1TD, when Yepez hit that homer in game 1 of the 2022 post season I thought we were on our way. But things went sour and our rookie manager seemed overmatched in the moment.

Yeah, Bikemike, if it weren’t for that post-season HR, I’d have forgotten all about Yepez, but that game will keep him etched in my mind. It’s a similar condition with guys like Tommy Lawless and So Taguchi. Obscure players who had that one defining moment in the post-season that stays burned in the memory bank.

Taylor pitched for the Cards from 1963-65 and had a save in the 1964 World Series.

Yeah, 2 appearances in that ’64 WS in which he performed 4.2 innings of near flawless work. No runs on no hits with the only blemish being a solitary BB. In fact, in his career post-season 10.1 innings of work he allowed 0 ER’s on only 3 hits. His numbers look like an abbreviated version of Gibson/Koufax in the post-season.

Never liked Yepez swing. Look like a softball player trying to jack everything.

Most people don’t think of Ron Taylor when the ‘64 Cards or ‘69 Mets are mentioned. But those post season numbers 1TD showed are impressive to say the least.

He got two more rings as well for being the Blue Jays team doctor for many years. One of those “a life well lived” guys.

Former mlb player ed mickelson passed friday,98. He played for cardinals, browns, orioles, and cubs. He got into few mlb games but actually had some distinction. HE drove in the one and only run for tbe browns in their final game before moving to baltimore. It would turn out to be his last mlb hit. Never apoeared in the majors for the orioles before going to the cubs. The cubs called him up, he went 0 for 12 and that was it. But he batted 316 for his minor league career. So when someone like say pete rose says if you can hit in minors, the majors is nothing, thats not always right if ever actually. Of course you could say he didnt get lots of opportunities but he got more than some.

Carlson sure is a puzzler. I thought the Cardinals rushed him a bit and should have kept him in AAA longer. But after 2021 it looked like he was adapting to the big time and on his way. A left handed guy, it is odd to me that he does not hit lefty nearly as well as righty. But then there are a lot of righties that hit better lefty, including me in my younger years playing. I never hit a home run right handed, but hit something like six lefty in my teens playing in our local city leagues back in the day. Course there weren’t many lefty pitchers either.

Anyway, Carlson is a toolsy guy, which is the kind of player I like. Those athletic guys always give me hope and I like seeing them get a lot of appearances. But Dyllie just never quite got there.

Elehuris Montero may or may not have hit a very long home run off Trevor Bauer in Japan. The video makes it clear he crushed one, but the alleged distance (594 ft) seems impossible. Either way, he is in the Reddit news, anyway.
