Granillo follows. Mendlinger is my #3324 Mike Antico 32 homers and nearly 100 steals over the last two years. He plays CF decently. If he gets pushed back to AA, we could see a monster 20 hr, 70 steal season.
25 Hancel Rincon was better than Mautz and pitched like an ace all year.
26 Nick Dunn limited defensively, but hit like crazy last year. We got Jim Edmonds for Adam Kennedy (and Bottenfield), so maybe we can replicate by sending the Angels Dunn and Matz for Trout…😁I like the way you think, Nigel!
It is with great sadness that we bid a hardy farewell to our esteemed sheriff, Mr. J. William Nevel. Now there’s a new sheriff in town and his name is cardsfan64…….welcome, sheriff! Cardsfan64 has some pretty weighty boots to fill, but all reports indicate that he’s both willing and able to be more than equal to the significant tasks at hand. I would also like to extend a friendly little reminder for us all to keep track of our selection numbers. If one poster goes a bit astray (cough cough… the esteemed LACardFan) and lists his picks at say…..25,26 and 27, when in reality we’re on picks 24,25 and 26, then the next poster(cough cough….NyQuist)may very well commit an error too and list his selections as 25, 26 and 27…..then the next poster does likewise and before you know it, BobbyReed, stlcard25, Cardinals27, LouisEu…..heck it may even trickle down to where both of our sheriffs and even BicycleMike and Brian are skipping #24 and we end up with a Top 49 list instead of 50. Without further ado, here are my selections with the appropriate #’s:

It’s been an honor to lead our rabble through another year of rankings. I love prospects. They all give you hope for a potential brighter future. Let’s hope this is the crop that gets us there.

26. Zach LevensonAs so often happens with Palm Beach, Levenson’s Home/Road splits demand perusing. Away from Roger Dean Hitter’s Graveyard Stadium, Zach authored a tremendous slash line of .297/.365/.547.
The bad news is, that line represents just 74 trips to the plate. If it were say, 200+ PAs, he’d have to be ranked inside the Redbird top 20, mayyybe even top 15. Could be another one of those early/mid-round college steals the Cardinal development guys have specialized in drafting over the past 8-10 years.
Rincon was better than Mautz and pitched like an ace all year.
I have a hard time knowing what to think about the players who start out as children in the DOSL program. Now Rincon just finished his 5th year in the org and he was at PB in low A, and still only 21 years old.
We have so many young pitchers, and some not so young, with walk rates at 4+/9, it is great to see a kid who can put it over the plate, and without getting his head knocked off. I am pretty concerned about the 6.6 K/9 over a full season of starts. That vs low A hitters, many of which are not long out of school ball. Last year, in a smaller sample, it was 7.1 K/9 in PB, so not moving in the right direction.
I will be fine with seeing him make our top 30, but we really do need to see how this pitch to contact approach goes once he faces more advanced hitters. There is a chance it will be batting practice.
I’ve been a big Rincon supporter for 2 years now and brought him up a bunch at the end of last year’s Top 50 and I’ve razzed Brian several times early this year about leaving him out of his Top 50. Yet I haven’t voted for him yet in our rankings as we get into the mid 20’s. And it’s for all the reasons Bling mentions above. I really, really like Rincon. I like watching each developmental step he takes. I like watching the way he responds to bad games or bad innings. But his stuff – especially his fastball – is weak. So there’s extreme risk for him. He’ll also be a minor league free agent in a couple years so he would have to make some big jumps between now and then to make it.

On a side note, why don’t the Cardinals move the fences in some there? It doesn’t help anyone to play in an extreme park where you have to explain away statistical variances in either direction.

25. Caesar Prieto – Strikes me as a super utility without much pop, but he feels like a pretty good guarantee to get a cup of coffee in the majors, which is more than most will get in this range.

I’m not sure if my same 36 hour schedule will still be in play or not. But we should keep to the 3 votes for your top pick, 2 votes for the 2nd, and one vote for the 3rd method. Tie-breakers are settled by whomever gets to their total first.

#29 MejiaSo far, I think it’s a good list. I believe the group was a little bullish on McGreevey and Saggese and a lot bullish on Hansen. The only other complaint I have is I think Granillo is too low. I’m confident he’s going to be a real difference maker by ‘25. And I can’t say the same thing about quite a few of the guys just ahead of him. Time will tell. But overall, it’s a good list. I think the organization is deep with prospects. There aren’t very many top notch prospects. But there are a lot of guys with potential to be average and a few pitchers with real upside beyond that. Next season will be defining for a lot of these players.
