jj-cf-stlParticipantDiffering opinions are why we are here. That was a nice read. Well done.
My only issue with your last reply is, I don’t follow minor leaguers, nor care to.
I prefer to let them develop without the microscope and watch them if/when they debut.
As a minors site, I’m sure your effort wasn’t wasted.

Participantjj – A lot of us follow the Cardinals minor leaguers in great detail – game by game. It’s one of the reasons why we’re on this particular forum. Brian Walton is as an accomplished
expert on our minor leaguers. The best in the business. Others, like BlackHillsCard are terrific too. That’s why there is so much discussion on an ongoing basis about minor league players here. Although some players are brought in from outside the organization to the big league club, the majority of future Cardinals will come from within the system. Following them is a way of looking into the future.August 13, 2021 at 6:39 pm #169731
jj-cf-stlParticipantThank you captain obvious!

ParticipantBullpen was not fine coming into the season. If you live on hopes and prayers then maybe but not in reality. Miller has never pitched well for us and don’t get me started on Webb. I wouldn’t pick that guy for my team if I was creating a team from where I work. Helsley has potential but needs more consistentcy. Fernandez I feel is just average at best and can’t even say that this year. Yea if your starters go deep you put don’t have to use those guys as much but going deep is something some of our starters have really struggled with. In the end, you kind of have to plan that you may have use a guy a bit when determining whether he should be on team.

ParticipantBe nice, jj. It’s a better way to go.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI told you I dont care to follow the minors and give me the sales pitch? Why?
After 8.5 yrs here i don’t need a roadmap of the site. A sales pitch to a subscribing member! Too funny.
August 14, 2021 at 7:51 am #169777I lived in Memphis for most of my life before moving away 7 years ago. I used to take in several Redbirds games each year to check out prospects and then throw in a couple of weekend trips to StL.
Last time I was in StL for a series was July 2013 (Shelby Miller won, lol) and it was a real shame to see how downtown had deteriorated.
I remember when Union Station was nothing then became a vibrant mall in the 80’s ‘ 90’s. It was almost empty in 2013.
LaClede’s landing was still ‘ok’ in 2013 but was fading.
I’m sure Covid can’t have helped nor the development new Cardinal village area that’s been mentioned on here.
For those who have been in the past couple of years – How is the Market Street corridor holding up these days?
August 14, 2021 at 8:03 am #169778bccran
ParticipantI give you the sales pitch, jj, because it represents the future of the Cardinals over the next few years to a great extent. If you don’t want to enjoy following the young developing guys in our system like Gorman, Burleson, Yepez, Liberatore, Thompson, Walker, Winn, etc. that’s certainly your business. To each his own.
But don’t give me grief about not being a subscriber. I’ve been a subscriber at TCN up until this year, when some unexpected expenses came up for my wife and me.

How many starts do you give Lester at his current production?August 14, 2021 at 8:23 am #169780
jj-cf-stlParticipantI said nothing about your membership level. Slow down, you are making false accusations.

Participant“A sales pitch to a subscribing member!”
Read your quote any way you want jj. But that’s obviously putting down another poster for not being a subscriber.Let’s get off the kick of putting down other posters, okay jj? Let’s just enjoy this fine forum. I understand that you don’t care for me, and that’s fine. But best not to waste other posters’ time and bore them.
August 14, 2021 at 4:29 pm #169807Cranny,
I didn’t read it as a put down at all. Honestly.Your description of our site was spot on and quite detailed. Much appreciated.
I think jj and you read something into each other’s posts that wasn’t intended.
You certainly meant nothing negative about the “..if you don’t know who Whitley is…” and his reply was pointing out that he knew the site’s strengths since he was a subscriber. No more, no less. (Hope you’re able to resubscribe in the future because I know how much you love the minors.)
I’ve always loved the St Louis Cardinals in part because it was a fun escape when personal times were rocky. And if the Big Squad was shaky, there was always one of the minor league teams doing well.
This year? Shaky Big Squad and a minor league season so lousy I can’t remember its like. Little escape or fun either place. And we’re all going through something none of us have experienced previously.
August 14, 2021 at 5:28 pm #169811bccran
ParticipantThanks for a fine post, UConn.
I’ve been following the Cards for many decades, and for some reason this year I find myself reaching a point of turning them off when things weren’t going well. The ball games themselves have been so boring. It bothers me about myself. I’ve let things bother me that I shouldn’t. Like Bader’s long permed hair, shimmying, cocky bat flip, and general showiness – only to whiff for the umpteenth time on a low and away slider. Or watching Carp take a third strike on the corner, look super anguished, turn around, and give the umpire a filthy look while arguing with him. Or DeJong striking out on the same pitch time after time after time. Or CMart’s inconsistency and antics. Or O’Neill’s futility with runners in scoring position.
But things are hopefully going to change in the future, so I get a great deal of joy out of checking the minor league scores every day. Sure, the teams haven’t done well, but there are some truly exciting prospects. Since we know that only about 10% of the minor leaguers are going to make it to the majors and have any sort of impact at all, I Look for at least 2-3 on every team to follow very closely. Memphis has more that that now – Gorman, Burleson, Yepez, Libby, Thompson, Oviedo, and Rondon. Do I think that guys like Robertson, Mendoza, Capel, Williams, etc. are going to have some sort of impact someday? Probably not. At Springfield it’s Pallante, Herrera, Baker, Perez, and Nunez. Not excited about much else. It’s especially a no name pitching staff. Peoria has Bedell, Walker, Winn, and Torres.
Palm Beach? Nunez, Holgate, Jones, and Romeri. So there’s 20 reasons for me to be upbeat and curious every day, no matter what the big club does. It’s what keeps me engaged. And as mentioned, it’s good recreation and diversion when some things aren’t going as well as one would like personally.

jj-cf-stlParticipantOne of us received a personal attack on his credibility, or are you ignoring reply #169781?
If you are done kissing his butt now, maybe you could do some moderating? Oh, he misunderstood doesn’t cut it. He twisted words and attacked. As moderating goes, that was lame.
August 14, 2021 at 5:59 pm #169816bccran
Participantjj – Now you’re attacking a moderator. Please give it up. It’s over. Time to move on, away from acrimony. Let’s
recreate and talk Cardinal baseball. Okay? Thanks.August 14, 2021 at 6:02 pm #169818You think it’s “lame” that I told him that you didn’t intend your post as a put down?
Reading something into a post that isn’t intended happens. When it does happen, it usually has more to do with something going on with the one misreading the comment than anything else. That isn’t the same thing as “lying”.
August 14, 2021 at 6:24 pm #169821Cranny,
Pls just stick to baseball too.
Thanks.
jj,
Since my original post re this matter referenced the content of post 169781 in the first sentence, I could hardly be ignoring it.August 15, 2021 at 7:24 am #169853bccran
ParticipantI still think they will go with Flaherty,
Hudson, Mikolas, Kim, Waino, and Reyes.
But I’m rooting for them to land Scherzer.
He’s always belonged in a Cardinal uniform.August 15, 2021 at 8:36 am #169860If Mikolas and Kim are unavailable who do you like instead?
August 15, 2021 at 9:04 am #169862bccran
ParticipantI don’t think you can cover all possibilities. In 2019, Kim threw 190 innings in Korea. I don’t believe Mikolas has a long history of injuries. He had 32 starts for the Cardinals in both 2018 and 2019. If we have Flaherty, Hudson, Mikolas, Kim, Waino and Reyes, plus maybe re-sign Lester or Happ, and have Oviedo, Libby, and Thompson ready for spot starts we should be okay.
But, again, would really like to see Scherzer here.August 15, 2021 at 2:09 pm #169879I wonder how likely Scherzer to StL is?
What kind of money / length of contract will he likely command?
August 15, 2021 at 2:40 pm #1698831982 willie
ParticipantI don’t believe we are getting scherzer. We aren’t his preference. I see the dodgers or giants in his future.
August 15, 2021 at 2:44 pm #169885Supposedly the Dodgers and Angels are gearing up for a bidding war for Scherzer. Mo probably won’t win that battle.
August 15, 2021 at 3:35 pm #169892bccran
ParticipantThat may be so, but my guess is that Scherzer’s dream since he was a little boy is to help pitch the Cardinals to a World Championship. At this stage, it would add an exclamation point to his career.
August 15, 2021 at 4:09 pm #1698971982 willie
ParticipantWhy would you think it was sherzers dream to do that.
