Depends on what they do in the off season.
Many have workout and throwing programs designed to improve certain pitches. Others pitch in winter ball to continue their development.All players who have 10 years in the majors should have enough money to retire and enjoy their families. Are you saying that all players should retire before age 35? Why shouldn’t Waino play next year if he loves the game?
I would love to see him pitch for just 1 more season. The hope is that the Cardinals’ brass would put a good enough team around him to get to the World Series 1 last time.

That may be, Forsch, but he turns 40 on August 30th. How many guys have ever pitched effectively as a starter at his age?
That’s nothing but a smart alec answer, Forsch. I said that Waino is unusual to
be pitching so well in a rotation at 40 years old, and you refuted that. It’s up to you to prove your point. Is there something going on on your personal world that makes you so snippy and contrary?bc, I am tired of coming on here to intelligently talk Cardinals baseball and you want to try to twist anyone’s point to argue why your point of view is absolutely correct and the other poster is wrong. You want others to look up facts. When they do and prove what they said, you then twist that into something else. If the back and forth goes on long enough, you sooner or later make a claim that whoever you are debating with is not following the board rules.
If you want to call it a smart aleck response, so be it. I don’t HAVE to prove any point. If you believe I am wrong, look it up. I am sure you will find over 20 pitchers that retired within the last 40 years that were effective starters after turning age 40.
I only wrote this response to address the direct question you asked me about why I am so snippy and contrary. If it is against the board rules, I will accept any consequences.

I display facts as I best know how, and try to be a decent contributor. For some reason, you have it out for me. That’s fine. But remember we all have a right to our opinions. And we should be willing to support those opinions with facts,not require the other person to look up the facts to prove we are right. That’s just not the way it works and you know it. As all of this pertains to Wainwright, if he wants to play, is fit to play, and the Cardinals are willing to pay him to do so, who are we to worry about his personal life/finances?

I don’t care if Wainwright pitches another season or two or not BUT if he does I would expect the team to have a solid contigincy plan in place to replace him if his arm falls off.
If he has to be that ace of the staff again next year then the Cardinals will probably have yet another ‘meh’ season.
Again, Forsch, I try to stay with the facts. When a poster says the Cards don’t really have any good pitching prospects at Memphis, I have to answer that. I give Thompson’s background re the number of professional games and innings he pitched before being elevated to AAA. I show factually some of the nice recent starts several starters have had at Memphis that show marked improvement. That’s just responding to a statement a poster made out our pitching prospects that I didn’t agree with. A far cry from a poster publicly berating another poster in very general terms and publicly asking the monitors to support him. That’s pretty woeful, sir.
Although not a rotation guy, I am wondering about how Jordan Hicks is doing. We know his comeback from TJ was affected/interrupted by his opt out last year. He got an injection in the elbow this spring. Two years post is he throwing off a mound yet?
As to Hudson, there had been some hope he might get some game reps in September, here or the minors. Hopefully that is going well. It would be good to get a sense of what he looks like now.
It sounds like Flaherty is handling rehab starts without physical issues. I don’t see any need to rush him back given we suck, but it would be good to gage his state before the end of the season.
While I wish Mikolas well, it seems prudent to not count on anything. If he shows up in Jupiter and makes it thru ST its a bonus.
As to Kim, we are in no position to turn up our nose at a .500 starter with a 3.36 ERA even if he can’t be counted upon to go more than 5, if that. Whether we are in a position to do so over the winter will depend upon what help Mo brings in from outside the organization since in house resources will be almost entirely unproven hopefuls and injury cases.
If Zack Thomson doesn’t get a non roster invite to camp it would be an injustice. After what he went thru to meet an organizational need he deserves it. It’s good to see him having some better results lately.
