The Glendale Desert Dogs lost to the Scottsdale Scorpions in a Friday afternoon contest at Camelback Ranch. No #stlcards were in action for the second time this @MLBazFallLeague season. Astros prospect Korey Lee drove in both Desert Dogs runs. (free) https://t.co/FWmC6F9NE3 pic.twitter.com/WQGKOr83za

November 13, 2021 at 7:18 am #176674The pattern certainly holds…without a lineup full of Cardinal hitters and hurlers, the Desert Dogs are stuck in sinking sand. If the Fall Stars manager wants to win today, they’ll pencil a bunch of our prospects in; it’s as simple as that.
November 13, 2021 at 7:44 am #176676Our unheralded Desert Dog skipper, Jair Fernandez, has been pivotal in our Dogs’ success, thus enhancing his resume, that undoubtedly will find it’s way into Mo’s mitts. I wouldn’t be shocked if the 34 year old Jair ended up being in our employ within the next year. Go Rafters and Go Dogs!
November 13, 2021 at 8:21 am #176678I predict greatness from the Nootster in the AFL stars game.
I’m warming up to Donovan in an IF/OF UT role sometime in 2022. And a lefty bat who hit righties for good BA and OBP. Needs more reps in AAA, which raises a question: Would a CBA related lockout affect MiLB activities?
November 13, 2021 at 8:29 am #176679bccran
ParticipantGood question, BB. What about our minor leaguers at Spring Training? Would they be locked out too? Or report and play games against other minor league teams as normal. Trying to make plans for my annual trip down to Jupiter in March.
November 13, 2021 at 10:06 am #176683MLB work stoppage does not affect minor leaguers except those on the 40 man, according to Baseball America

ParticipantThanks, LA.
November 13, 2021 at 12:38 pm #176691I’m warming up to Donovan in an IF/OF UT role sometime in 2022. And a lefty bat who hit righties for good BA and OBP.
Bling, Donovan is going to be the next Tommy Edman.
Apologies in advance to Game Card.
November 13, 2021 at 12:40 pm #176692BA’s supposition was based only on what happened in prior work stoppages, the last of which was over a quarter century ago. At that time, MiLB was not under the direct control of MLB as today, so I am still watching this closely. No current news yet, but as BA said, if the past model is followed, the minors will play either way.
November 13, 2021 at 2:40 pm #176699Bling, Donovan is going to be the next Tommy Edman.
Exactly. An IF/OF UT who can play all over including 2B if if the regular guy gets offed for being too expensive, and take the leadoff slot in the order if we don’t have a legit leadoff guy with a nice OBP.
November 13, 2021 at 2:44 pm #176700Two #stlcards are in the starting lineup for the West in the @MLBazFallLeague Fall Stars Game. RF Lars Nootbaar leading off and 1B Juan Yepez at cleanup. Live at 6 pm CT on @MLBNetwork. pic.twitter.com/SNJokUW7LO

November 13, 2021 at 6:11 pm #176703Received a few questions about how to watch the Fall Stars Game if you don't have the MLB Network channel. The telecast is also available via the MLB app as well as streamed via https://t.co/OioalZeEDw at this link. https://t.co/jn7sGKMqyU

November 13, 2021 at 8:46 pm #176707Former scout @BerniePleskoff likes #stlcards OF Lars Nootbaar of Glendale as AFL MVP. Just one week remains on the schedule with Glendale having a chance to be in the finals next Saturday night – same time, same channel. https://t.co/88TQG4lD0S

ParticipantJust some quick thoughts –
Nootbaar is a nice #4 outfielder to have. Decent LH bat off the bench and competent spot starter.
Yepez is a brute. What a delight to finally see him hit.
Really excited to see what he can do for the Cardinals.Donovan has some nice plate discipline and a smooth level swing. Probably going to be a valuable #5/6 infielder. Maybe even make the starting lineup someday as a leadoff man.
Thompson was disappointing. He has margin stuff for a major league starter and has obvious control issues. He’s going to need a lot more grooming at AAA.
November 13, 2021 at 10:13 pm #176714The AFL Fall All Stars Game took place earlier tonight at Salt River Fields. Two #stlcards started for the West Division, Lars Nootbaar in RF and Juan Yepez. The first baseman/cleanup hitter doubled twice and plated one on a sac fly. (free game recap) https://t.co/73yJjbDyeC pic.twitter.com/XTg6gVDasx

November 15, 2021 at 11:22 am #176762As he didn't pitch in Saturday's AFL Fall Stars Game, #stlcards RH prospect Andre Pallante
(1.59 ERA) is available to start for Glendale this afternoon at home vs. Peoria. With four games remaining, the Desert Dogs are one game out of first and a spot in the finals on Saturday. pic.twitter.com/0iNxWtDUgU— Brian Walton (@B_Walton) November 15, 2021

ParticipantAnyone getting excited about Pallante? He pitched the first 4 innings today and gave up one hit. His ERA is at 1.29 now in the AFL. Strong candidate for the 2022 bullpen?
November 15, 2021 at 5:05 pm #176782IMO, a strong candidate to gain Triple-A starting experience and compete with Liberatore, Thompson, Woodford, Oviedo and Rondon. Future roles are TBD. In our last monthly prospect list update, Pallante moved up to no. 12.
November 16, 2021 at 6:59 am #176804Powered by a trio of #stlcards, Glendale pulled into a tie for first. #stlcards Andre Pallante allowed just three runners in his scoreless four-inning start. Brendan Donovan’s 2nd hit was the walkoff single. Juan Yepez reached base twice and scored. (free) https://t.co/MbLbarBtgY pic.twitter.com/yrBRagUsF0

November 16, 2021 at 8:23 am #176810The pattern holds…more Redbirds playing, a greater chance of a W. Teams are lucky that Gorman has been out or the standings would already be a runaway.
November 16, 2021 at 8:38 am #176817I don’t really know how big of an indicator the AFL is to future success but I would imagine the Cardinal brass has to be very pleased with the performance of the young Birds out in Arizona.
November 16, 2021 at 9:11 am #176826Maybe best left for another thread, but I’ve been pretty high on Neil (Neil Andre Pallante) since the middle of last season. I won’t let the cat out of the bag just yet, but let’s just say he’s nestled in the teens as far as my Top 50 prospects go. He’s got to slice that WHIP of his a bit though.
November 17, 2021 at 7:16 am #176870You are not alone Pugs. Pallante was no. 12 in our September rankings here and will stay in that vicinity in the 2022 rankings to start very soon. You also pegged his focus area.
November 17, 2021 at 7:16 am #176871Though #stlcards’ Jake Walsh tossed a scoreless inning in @MLBazFallLeague action Tuesday, it wasn’t enough as Glendale was held to four hits and no runs. The Desert Dogs are a game out of first with the season ending Friday. (free) https://t.co/HEbsN5I8Ax pic.twitter.com/mYDMhyM6vj
