Thanks folks. Maybe Brian has the exact answer.

ChiTown – I’ve seen Carlson up close and personal at Spring Training, and thought he was African American. Am I wrong?

Funny. I have spoken with Dylan many times and his race never crossed my mind being anything other than Caucasian. Having never considered it, I do not know the actual answer, nor does it matter to me, but here is a family photo from 2016. His brother Tanner is on the left.

Brian – color doesn’t matter to me either, except these African
American kids in St. Louis need role models. And there’s nothing like sports heroes to be those role models. We don’t have an NFL team or an NBA team. And our NHL team has all white players. Ozzie Smith was great with youth groups. Lou Brock got out in the community too. We need more African American players on the Cardinals. Guys who end up hopefully making their home here, like Ozzie and Lou.

Callis does not include the Cardinals among the eight teams he feels had the best drafts.

That’s odd because he seemed to like the draft class on Night 2. And many other sites have rated the Cards draft class high.

Just got it confirmed chatting with former P-D writer Jose de Jesus Ortiz that his mother is Latina.

BC, I completely get the role model, setting an example etc. That would be a great asset to many cities, especially STL. I’ve read in the past that McCutchen was huge for the Pittsburg community in that regard. I was just very confused about the Carlson being included.

I could very well be mistaken about Carlson, ChiTown. But I’m happy about Fletcher and this draft class.

Great potential. Very glad they drafted him. He’s a very special player and person. It’s going to be exciting to have both he and Gorman in the lineup someday.

Edman is the senior citizen of this group. Could there be a teenage slugger in the DSL to play 2B?

Goldschmidt will be at 1B for the next 5 years…fat Montero will be long gone by then. Alec Burleson is a better bet than Montero.

Montero did not look at all good in the ST games I saw.

We’re still talking about a guy who lost an entire season to one of the most devastating injuries for a hitter. I wouldn’t have expected him to look good and polished yet. This lost season will probably really hurt prospects like him though.

Montero needs to lose weight before he does anything else.

I don’t have any spring training photos, but I took this in November. I haven’t heard any weight concerns.

Here is how he looked three years ago.

I’ve been reading through TCN Prospect Guide again since all baseball is still shut down. Some of the main players I was keeping on my radar besides Montero were going to be Patrick Romero, Francisco Justo, and Angel Cuenco. (I think Cuenco was on BW’s best of the rest.) I was hoping Rangel Ravelo was going to be a ‘feel good’ story. When I think of it, there are a whole lot of players of interest. It’s fun when somebody points out a prospect that’s finally emerging like Gil or Fletcher were hopefully going to be, or a sleeper that seemingly pops up out of nowhere.
