ParticipantCollege in the Northeast, GC. Got to pitch against Army, Navy, Syracuse, Yale, Princeton, etc.
June 9, 2020 at 7:09 pm #129932bcc did you ever come south in the early spring to pitch?
June 9, 2020 at 10:06 pm #129941Not that they need my endorsement, but the above answers cover the ground well.
June 9, 2020 at 10:21 pm #129942Really like Jarvis from Duke. He was turning in a special Junior season at Duke and was taking big step forward in his development. If the season didn’t get stopped at the rate he was going I think he could have gone top 10. Being 22 is small red flag.
MLB.com
After working with an 88-93 mph fastball at the beginning of 2019 and dipping to 86-91 by season’s end, Jarvis added 20 pounds to his 6-foot-2 frame and operated at 92-96 with effective downhill plane last fall and this spring. His breaking ball used to be average at best, and now he flashes a plus curveball in the upper 70s that he can manipulate into a distinct and equally effective slider in the mid-80s. His fading changeup remains his best secondary offering, grading as well above average at its best.
Jarvis has improved his control along with his stuff, posting a 40-2 K-BB ratio in 27 innings while showing the ability to move his pitches around the strike zone. He repeats his delivery well.My Draft Board
Tyler Soderstrom
Pete Crow-Armstrong
Bryce Jarvis
Justin Foscue

Carmen Mlodzinski

Jordan WestburgJune 9, 2020 at 10:31 pm #129943David when I was an intern for the Astros we had a Q&A with Astros front office. They basically said normally they call up a player before the pick and ask ahead of time so they can give the GM the information. Things change like Astros in Brady Aiken when they found something on his physical and lowered his offer and then lowered Jacob Nix offer because of it.

ParticipantGC – We only went as far South as North Carolina in the Spring. Played against U. of North Carolina, East Carolina, then back up to play against U. of Virginia, etc.

MrperkinsParticipantPut me down for Mick Abel as my dream pick. Seen him mocked at 17 to Red sox a few times and 19. If he slid to 21 I’d be super pleased to see him in red.
June 10, 2020 at 7:30 am #129954June 10, 2020 at 7:47 am #129956First off, draft day! Really looking forward to your coverage and write up for the picks Brian.
Next a couple of last minute mock drafts:
BA: Dillon Dingler C/Ohio St – wouldn’t be my favorite choice with all of the guys going after him in this mock.
ESPN: Ed Howard – read that Baltimore is might sign first pick below slot to drive up the price for a guy like Howard so they can get him at 30. Have to love the chess game that is the MLB draft.
MLB: Callis – Nick Bitsko RHP – if you don’t like a guy that’s basically a junior in HS due to the lost year you probably can’t get behind a guy that reclassified whose last full season is as a Sophomore.
Mayo – Cole Wilcox – Would fit what the Cards like with college pitchers.
CBSSports: Cole Wilcox
Bleacher Report: Cade Cavelli – my favorite of the second tier of RHP.Looking forward to it.
June 10, 2020 at 8:01 am #129958Law says Garrett Mitchell, UCLA.
In @keithlaw’s final 2020 MLB mock draft, he says the #Cardinals are “locked in” on a college hitter. https://t.co/6K1uUhUfmt

June 10, 2020 at 8:28 am #129961I hope Keith Law is wrong.
college bat with all that pitching?
JMO a college bat could end up being Foscue.
would not be happy at all with that.
Foscue instead of Carmen Mlodzinski for instance? ughJune 10, 2020 at 8:57 am #129964I totally agree DM but Law has always been a jerk.

MrperkinsParticipantFangraphs gives us my guy Abel!
June 10, 2020 at 11:28 am #129971The athletic
They seem locked in on college batsEspn
St. Louis likes Abel, Cavalli, Foscue and Pete Crow ArmstrongI think we’ll have a better idea of who it’ll be after the first 15 picks. Key is who drops.
June 10, 2020 at 11:38 am #129973Agree. I expect somebody to drop. I’m thinking that the teams in the middle of the draft will not want to do something risky when they can get a college arm that has a whole lot less risk.
June 10, 2020 at 1:10 pm #129979The fact they went pitcher heavy last year makes me think they prefer a bat in 1st round but won’t force it.
June 10, 2020 at 1:12 pm #129980This is good for those staying in school.
Just in time for the draft, the NCAA Committee for Legislative Relief passed rules for the 2020-21 school year designed to ease baseball's roster crunch.
⚾ eliminated 35-man roster max
⚾ eliminated 25% min. for a scholarship
⚾ raised max scholarship players from 27 to 32— Teddy Cahill (@tedcahill) June 10, 2020
June 10, 2020 at 2:35 pm #129994For once the NCAA did the right for College baseball. They should have increased the 11.7 scholarship limit too but I guess that would be expecting too much.
June 10, 2020 at 5:33 pm #129998half hour away.
