stlcard25ParticipantBrian, didn’t you know that the Cards can will players to sign with them? It’s a sign that Mo has slipped ever since David Price turned them down. Maybe Albert, depending on who you ask.
June 4, 2019 at 12:39 pm #93157You post about saving money just as we pick Tony Locey from Georgia. lol.
June 4, 2019 at 12:42 pm #93159
stlcard25ParticipantThe SEC run continues. Gscottar must be thrilled.
June 4, 2019 at 12:59 pm #93162The Cardinal Nation's #stlcards Draft Day 2 article is up, with full details on third-rounder, Georgia RHP Tony Locey @LoceyTony32, and much more to come this afternoon. https://t.co/kEPk9J2zvw pic.twitter.com/NZGTCf1VbZ

stlcard25ParticipantIt certainly appears that the Cards are trying to restock the pitching in the farm system this year. Maybe these are just the top guys on their board, I guess.
June 4, 2019 at 1:56 pm #93176Fletcher and four college pitchers? Looks like every college pitcher in the nation has been drafted. I thought this draft had no pitching?
June 4, 2019 at 2:49 pm #93184And, now, a college catcher.
June 4, 2019 at 3:30 pm #93190Through seven:
Five college pitchers
One college catcher
One highschool centerfielderJune 4, 2019 at 3:38 pm #93193
stlcard25ParticipantHere’s a nice article on the Cards’ 7th round pick, Jack Ralston:

It won’t let me post the link. Something about the NCAA site. Notice that he was a lot better hitter as a senior. Apparently has good speed and developed some power. In 202 AB, had 37 Ks, 23 BB.
June 4, 2019 at 5:30 pm #932218 college pitchers
1 college catcher
1 highschool centerfielderJune 4, 2019 at 6:02 pm #93226TCN's #stlcards Draft Day 2 article covers all 8 picks today, incl. @GraggLogan23, @toddlott9 (p) & Jake Sommers to finish round 10. The big change: Last year, just 3 of 11 picks were pitchers. This year, 7/10. 9 of 11 collegians in '18 and 9/10 in 2019. https://t.co/kEPk9J2zvw pic.twitter.com/VKVdvvcKaD

June 4, 2019 at 9:39 pm #93266I would guess most of these pitchers drafted might make a cameo at a short season club, and then moved to Peoria or Palm Beach to prep their 2020 campaign a la the Wacha plan.
June 4, 2019 at 11:23 pm #93278I don’t see how they fit in time for 30×30 draft picks tomorrow. They were going about as fast as they could today, and it took 5+ hours for 8 rounds. Unless each team has a spreadsheet and it is handled like an online NFL fantasy draft.
June 5, 2019 at 7:00 am #93285I’m not sure all teams will be participating after about round 25.

I don’t know that there’s an official time limit, but there are often very short times between picks. You can see the draft tracker updated several times in a few minutes.
June 5, 2019 at 8:47 am #93302Yes, all teams will participate until the end. The day 3 picks are announced quickly with only a few seconds of delay between them. It is long but moves rapidly.
June 5, 2019 at 9:05 am #93304The SEC run continues. Gscottar must be thrilled.
Yes I am.
June 5, 2019 at 9:10 am #93308Apparently Mo and Company received Brian’s message loud and clear that our minor league pitching depth badly needed to be replenished.
Well done Brian.
June 5, 2019 at 9:57 am #93311No, I respect the people running the organization for knowing what they are doing. The pitching problems have been obvious for a long time now.
June 5, 2019 at 10:17 am #93312
stlcard25ParticipantGee, and here we thought that Brian was moving up in the world. 🙂
Should be fun to see what the Cards do today. Traditionally they grab some high school guys they can overpay a little, some safe college arms and a number of lower division guys with great numbers that might not get a lot of attention.
June 5, 2019 at 10:53 am #9331814NyquisT
ParticipantIn last year’s 11-20 rds draft they went for pitching. This year since they leaned towards Ps 1-10 they might go for middle infielders as there is a need at those positions throughout the organization. The draft is hard to predict since guys are going off the “availables” at a quicker pace. Our drafting people have to stay on their toes. I’ve been praying to the heavens for this to be a great draft class for the Cards.
