Fangraphs has Jonathan India up to 24…
Fangraphs updateInterestingly, they don’t have Nander de Sedas (preseason second best SS) or Blaine Knight in the Top 55. And Konor Pilkington is all the way down at 46…
April 19, 2018 at 1:36 pm #49433I forgot to mention this but with the Cards losing the 2nd round pick because of signing Holland their bonus pool allotment falls to $7,968,400.
April 21, 2018 at 12:41 pm #49631A mid-season update of some names to watch
April 21, 2018 at 12:54 pm #49634A nice write up on Jonathan India
April 22, 2018 at 10:17 am #49720I can see the Cardinals going pitcher with their first two picks – since they didn’t draft one until the 8th round last year. And traditionally, the Cardinals tend to go more pitcher-heavy in the early rounds.
Rocker, if available, would be one of the HS arms I would take a bet on. I just don’t see him lasting until 19…
And it would be hard to pass on a SS like Turang if he was still available…
April 27, 2018 at 12:04 am #50251India up to #10 by MLB
April 28, 2018 at 10:30 am #50386India is the only position player I think the Cardinals have to draft if he is available when they pick (though if Turang is still there, he’d be difficult to pass up as well), but it’s looking increasingly likely he will be off the board before #19
“STANDOUT STAT: 33 – Jonathan India failed to reach base in the game, going 0-for-5 and snapping a 33-game streak of reaching base safely. In the bottom of the ninth he hit a ball to deep right center that was caught over the wall, robbing him of a two-run homer.”
Indias on-base streak endsMay 1, 2018 at 8:49 am #50647This mock had five players I think the Cardinals would love to draft (and who may slip to them) in the first round already gone…Which would make sense why they chose this player for the Cardinals at #19…
The only other player I see in play at #19 would be who they have at #22…
I just don’t see the Cardinals using their Top 2 picks on position players, especially after last year, even though I like the player they slotted to us at #43…
May 9, 2018 at 6:42 pm #51595Cardinal2016 should like this list https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JCc7RsmXfCfl52kApWo6EjGZhVCR7MiaK47kHQRjZEg/htmlview#gid=0
May 9, 2018 at 7:29 pm #51597Yes, I saw it over at talkingchop.
Quite amazed Kody Clemens is not flying up the draft boards like Jonathan India is…
.345/.439/.680 with 11 doubles, 3 triples & 16 HR. 32 walks to 35 strikeouts. And he is a 2B!!!He is also one of Roger Clemens’ sons (not that it should matter, but it does)
At this point, I think I’d rather have Clemens than Madrigal…A 2B with power and contact ability…
May 9, 2018 at 10:29 pm #51602Here is about the only article I can find on Kody Clemens
Golden SpikesHe was also a midseason All-American
Rawlings MidSeason All AmericansI am guessing the Astros have him pretty well scouted…
May 9, 2018 at 11:32 pm #51603It’s less than a month from the draft. I wonder how much signability plays into ranking draft prospects?
May 10, 2018 at 3:13 am #51604Signability would factor into team draft prioritization, but not prospect rankings. Last year, if I recall correctly, more than 40 of the Top 300 went totally undrafted.
May 11, 2018 at 9:25 am #51726May 11, 2018 at 1:08 pm #51746Would like see Cards draft any of these guys ;Jonathan India 3B Florida-probably goes before Cards turn.,Alec Bohm 3B Wichita State-same a India-probably gone before Cards pick.
Bren Spillane 3B Illinois-power bat, good eyeMay 11, 2018 at 3:20 pm #51751Where does Spillane look like he will be drafted? Maybe drafting him can work out as well as Dejong.
May 11, 2018 at 4:55 pm #51760According to Goold the Cards are interested in 21 year old Victor Victor Mesa, a Cuban OF prospect who is leaving Cuba in search of a MLB contract. Of course we are limited to offering $300k.
May 11, 2018 at 5:06 pm #51763gscottar, please head over to the July 2nd thread to discuss international players. Thanks.
May 12, 2018 at 1:38 pm #51894Bren Spillane 3B Illinois-power bat,good eye
While he has played 3B in the past, he is playing 1B this year…
Where does Spillane look like he will be drafted?
His slash line is good enough for first round, but I have not seen him mentioned anywhere near the first two rounds. Perfect Game has him ranked 181, which is about a 5th round grade. That said, there is traditionally a run on college bats in the second round, and I can see a team drafting him towards the back of the second round, though my gut tells me he won’t be taken until the 4th round.
He has three knocks against him:
1. He plays 1B only this year…
2. He plays in the Big 10, which while a Power 5 conference, is by far the worst of them in baseball. One can argue Conference USA, the Sun Belt and several other conferences are ahead of or on par with the Big 10 in baseball.
3. He has an injury historyHe is 14-21 in stolen base attempts, and has 2 triples. Maybe he can do a passable job in the OF. It seems like the 1B for Kentucky last year was drafted, in part, because some thought he could play OF.
Regardless, I think the Cardinals have other priorities in the first few rounds this year:
1. Pitching
2. SS
3. 3BMay 12, 2018 at 2:06 pm #51897Baseball America has him at 22 among college hitters, which would probably still be 3rd or 4th round
May 13, 2018 at 12:12 pm #52077May 13, 2018 at 2:28 pm #52106Two of these 3 players are expected to go in the Top 10 of this year’s draft. Two of them play in the same conference. One player will be lucky to get drafted in the first four rounds:
Player A: .384/.525/.780 – 11 doubles, 3 triples, 16 HR – 43 BB/38 K – 11/13 stolen bases
Player B: .378/.536/.715 – 17 doubles, 1 triple, 13 HR – 50 BB/ 44K – 7/7 stolen bases
Player C: .302/.462/.570 – 9 doubles, 13 HR – 46 BB/34 K – 9/13 stolen basesThey are all juniors.
Want to guess who these three players are and why one of them likely won’t be drafted in the first four rounds?
May 13, 2018 at 2:58 pm #52109Let’s see here, Cardinals2016….off the top of my head….one has to be Joey Bart. ….Bohm……and Larnach..no not Larnach…too young…..how about the 3rd being Jenista…or is he a senior.
May 13, 2018 at 3:05 pm #52110Pugs, you managed to miss on all of them.
May 13, 2018 at 3:07 pm #52111Ha! And that shouldn’t surprise anyone around here….unfortunately, including myself.
