Went to a list of all college teams in Baseball zCube and went thru nearly every team looking for 3B-1B prospects who will be in this years draft and have decent power/Walk/K numbers with good batting averages

Luke Heyer is the only one of the group I follow. He is not ranked in the Top 200 because he is a college senior, and last year he had a backup role after transferring from a JUCO.
Heyer plays both 3B and corner outfield, and also can throw low 90’s from the mound (he was a reliever for his JUCO team as well). Several publications have said he has a “cannon” for an arm. UK has about 8 players that will get drafted this year, so the team is heavily scouted.
I expect Heyer to be taken in the 4th round, even though he is not among the Top 200.
The only other two I have heard of are Ames and McGowan.
I ignore Tennessee Tech players because they tend to put up video game numbers.
There is at least one 3B you missed – I put his stats up above to see if anybody can guess who he is
Also, Kody Clemens, while playing 2B the majority of this year, has also played 3B at UT. And he was a HS shortstop.
And Luke Heyer is ranked #409 by PG

– JJ Schwarz might be an interesting take after round 5. The Cardinals like to take 1B’s who can catch, and Schwarz spent most of this year (and his career) as a catcher, though he did play a majority of last year as a 1B
– Kole Cottam is another 1B who can catch, which might interest the Cardinals
– Jake Mangum was a draft eligible sophomore last year. One I thought they might take in the 6th when they took Chase Pinder…
– Luke Heyer – who would be my pick for the Cardinals in the 4th round, made it as a utility player thanks to his ability to play 3B and both corner outfield positions
– Michael Helman might be a candidate for a 2B pick if the Cardinals miss on Kody Clemens
– Several mock drafts have Jackson Kowar as the Cardinals choice in the first round and several have Blaine Knight as the Cardinals choice at #43. I am more convinced of Knight at #43.In the ACC, Joey Bart was ACC Player of the Year Joey Bart and Brian Brown was Pitcher of the Year Brian Brown & Full List
– Brian Brown is a LHP and a senior, meaning nobody really knows where he will go, though I have seen him projected in the 7th or 8th rounds
– Seth Beer is one who, like JJ Schwarz, seemed to hurt his stock by playing mostly 1B last year, though this year played a majority of time in the OF. He will likely go no later than Comp Round A
– Brett Kinneman has a month-long slump which really hurt his draft stock, but he still hit 17 HR’s on the season
– Griffin Roberts is another candidate for the Cardinals at #43Kody Clemens won Big 12 Player of the Year I wish the Cardinals would draft him
The rest of the list is primarily underclassmen, so the only other notable name is Steele Walker, who despite the cool name, I don’t think will wind up a Cardinal

I noticed that the Sporting News had predicted the Cards would select Blaine Knight of the University of Arkansas in the first round. I would be thrilled if this happened. I live in Northwest Arkansas and have seen Knight pitch a few times. He is almost unhittable at the collegiate level. I think there is a good chance that Arkansas makes it to the College World Series and Knight would be on full display there.

I am hearing a lot about Kowar, and I’d love to see him in a Spikes uniform on June 15th when they play Williamsport.
So, in listening to that podcast, unlike the media mantra of “best player available,” sometimes the Cardinals go for best player available, sometimes they will draft for need.
Sometimes, they will seek to address a need in a particular round.
When there is a tie between drafting for need and best player available, the Cardinals will lean towards best player available.
The last ten rounds or so are almost always drafting for need to fill out the short season teams.

After reading some scouting reports, I hope Shane Mclanahan slides down to the 19th pick. We could sure use a power lefty, even if his future is in the pen.
I’d rather have Ryan Weathers in the first round. This is a year where the deepest part of the draft is HS arms.
Garrett Wade is a pitcher who might be in play around 75…
There will be value in lefties recovering from Tommy John (Steven Gingery, Tyler Holton) and senior signs (Brian Brown, Seth Kinker, Colton Schmidt)
Clemens had the go ahead double last night in the game against IU.
You’d think with all the pitching and OF depth we’ve accumulated we’d draft some middle infielders and and a corner infield power bat in the first 4-5 rounds. i get best player available and if that’s the kid from Arkansas or someone slides to us in the 1st then you do it.
I think they should stick to pitching in the 1st round and even into the 2nd. It’s what we do best.
The last 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pitcher that hasn’t panned out has been a while. Certainly MeGill.
Meanwhile, we have Hudson (jury out on Jones), Gallen, Woodford, Hicks, Weaver, Flaherty, Morales (not good), Williams (not good), but Gomber makes up for it. Gonzales, Kaminsky (not good), and Mayers in 2013, Wacha and Cooney in 2012.
It’s a pretty solid group.
Kaminsky is the only 1st rounder not to make it and he technically contributed by netting us Brandon Moss.
The only two hitters I would think they will consider in the first round this year are Brice Turang and Connor Scott.
Otherwise, I think they will go HS pitching (HS pitchers are better value in the first round this year than college pitchers).
Getting Blaine Knight or Kris Bubic at #43 would be much better value than getting Kowar or Rolison at #19…
