He ranked near the bottom of all Cardinals Regulars in Exit Velocity and Barrel Rate last year. He had more than the “occasional weak contact”. You can’t ignore the facts anymore.

Cranny you’re all over the place with Burleson, no disrpect intended. On one hand you quote 2023 stats from the Majors against Burleson, then you flip around and give an adamant defense by quoting 2022 Minor League stats with Memphis.

That’s not what you asked or claimed. I answered/replied based off your question/claim if Burleson would be the DH against LHP going forward. Herrera’s timely HR seemed to help his own cause. Matt Carpenter even hit LHP pitching in ST, and out OPS’d Burleson in those meaningless Spring Training stats.
Burleson will get AB’s against someone in some situation, it won’t mean that he’s more special to Oli, than any other player. He’ll be 1 of 4 bench guys getting AB’s. Then 1 by 1, Carlson, Nootbaar, and Edman start to return….who stays? who goes? Will an AB in spring training really matter? No.
Only what is current, and what the current need is.

Herrera shows the power potential once again. I can’t see Burleson getting many opportunities against LHP. Not until he disciplines himself into not swinging at pitches so far out of the zone that he can only make weak contact
@Albert de Morcerf, loved the prison break btw, Saggese is passable at 2B. To declare his footwork is good or great is…well, it’s reckless. Skip Schumaker was passable at 2B, Matt Carpenter wasn’t. It that gives you an idea of what I think of Saggese’s play at 2B. His bat will make him stick there. His throws kill me, and moving him to the left side of the diamond make it worse. There id arc to his throw, and when at SS or 3B the ball is at the 1B feet once it gets there. I’d really need to delve deep into his Velocity, but it can’t be that great with the way it travels.
That being said, I wonder if he gets to some of the balls that Gorman messed up on today in the Cubs game. 1 play in particular led to a run against Matz.
Shady typed ~ Saggese has been playing some SS recently. What’s up with that? They must feel he has some good range and a good arm as an infielder. Isn’t it kind of interesting that Saggese is still with the big club this late in ST? And Scott is not.
Did you see that throw. It’s how he throws…he can’t play that side of bag. His arm is too weak.
Keep him at 2B…give him occasional reps at SS and 3B, but only when it doesn’t matter.
@jj-cf-stl . Thompson is 2nd b/c of the Dodgers heavy lefty lineup. According to KatieWoo with the Athletic :

I’m going to agree with Bicyclemike. Not enough people in their prime. Well said.
Cards will eek out a 3rd if they can get out of their own way and move Goldy behind the likes of Contreras. Contreras is undervalued, or maybe he’s in his proper spot of 5th in the lineup? Either way, he should be batting 3rd, or dare I say 2nd? He’s going to hit, might as well take advantage of it. If Jordan Walker is going to hit, burying him behind your ancient DH is problematic in itself.
Lineup gets better once Noot and Edman debut, so there’s that.
Pundits seem to like our BP, I think MLB.com ranked them 7th. The problem is will we ever get to a point where we can utilize the back end of the BP? Or will it be more of the Pallante show and mop up duty?
4th in the central, outside chance of 3rd if the lineup management improves.

Cranny, I think Helsley is your closer with Romero and Kittredge as his setups.
And I hope and pray that Pallante has fixed his ills from last season, and whatever he’s coined as his new pitch is more than effective. I can’t handle him being Oli’s first option again if he’s pitches like last year. Having 2 pitches, and neither are effective was his downfall.
Liberatore will go as far as his results will take him…he will probably be relied on quite a bit in long relief to subsidize the short outings from Matz and whomever is off their game that week.
Gray coming back will help the BP alot. Until then, it’s up in the air outside of the 3 I mentioned .
