Hasn’t been many times where Flare has given up a run when it’s not the tying run or go ahead run. Let’s get that run back and some more.
22 runs of run support in deciding games with Flare pitching. Had we even scored that many total runs in his other 2nd half starts combined?
I like that we stayed aggressive after that first and didn’t have the mentality of 10 should be good enough. And Flare 13-0 or 1-0., he still pitches the same.
This should teaches all a valuable lesson. Always listen to Rats.
If Flare pitched the first inning of game 2 on nerves, then this first inning, he pitched in shock. He got out of it though with no damage done
That was amazing.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but if we and the bats both win; game 1 would open in Stlouis because I believe Division title trumps better record if that better record is a wildcard winner
I agree with Rat.
After May and June, the struggles of Carp all season and DeJong in the 2nd half, losing our closer for the majority of the season, but despite it all we hung in there and battled our way to a division title and now find ourselves 1 game away from the NLCS, so whatever is in the Cards for today,,, I am proud of every single one of them and no matter if there next game is in Los Angeles, St, Louis, or Jupiter, I will be cheering them on.
Go Cardinals!I’m sure both pitchers are nervous but Flare just has calm, cool demeanor about him and he doesn’t worry about run support because he can’t control where as I think Foltynewicz will be pitching a little tighter especially as the game goes on and perhaps make a mistake. Our job is to capitalize on those mistakes and take advantage of scoring oppt by just doing the basics. Put the ball in play, smart base running, solid D, limit the strike outs
I’m surprised that some of these odds makers have the Braves as a slight favor. If anything I would think it would be even odds. Honestly I think the deciding factor is that it’s played in Atlanta. If it were in Stlouis, the Cards would be favor. I just wonder how many of these so called experts who are picking the Braves also picked both #1 seeds to go to a deciding game?
If that’s the odds makers thinking, then Flaherty CG will take care of that.
Today is a day of optimism. Today I am only a fan and not a critic. I will not critique Shildts moves whether I disagree or not but trust in him that his moves will be the ones to lead us to victory and our players will make the play when it matters most. Call it a hunch, a feeling or just being an optimistic fan, but I am expecting good things from DeJong today. He will do something big in a positive way that impacts the game. I don’t mean he’ll go 4/4 with 2 homers and 5 RBI’s , but that would be nice, but something like a big hit or even a defensive play late in the game that will help lead our team to victory.
I am going to assume that tomorrow’s game will be like many of Flaherty’s past starts with little offense on both sides so therefore and I mentioned this in post yesterday I think the more quick outs Flare can get without use of the strike out to keep his pitch count low increases the chance of Flare going deeper and getting a CG. If we have a slim lead and Flaherty is getting outs and his pitch count is under 100 entering the B9th, I can’t imagine that Shildt would not allow him to go back out there.
Although I would like to see a laugher in the Cardinals favor, I can see this being a close game. With Flare pitching, any runs we can get him esp early will be big even if it’s runs on outs. Put the ball in play, steal, 1st-3rd, be aggressive on the first pitch. I would like to see this line up tomorrow. I know the phrase over due is over used but I have a gut feeling that one of these players will come up big tomorrow… DeJong , Carp, Fowler.
Your dinner sounds delicious Pugs, definitely a nominee for dinner of the night along with CardinalinFrance. On my menu tonight will be grilled carne asada and Pastor tacos, complimented with cilantro lime rice and savory retried beans.
Definitely a memorable game CardsFanInChiTown. One of my favorite memorable game 5’s was The Wizards walk off against Niedenfuer in the NLCS with the great Jack Buck telling Cardinal fans all over “Go Crazy folks, Go Crazy!” It May have not been a deciding game but it was big and I believe it was Smiths first homer as a lefty all year, maybe his career.
Sounds like a great plan gsottar.
My hope is that Flaherty gets his outs with limited strikeouts on Wednesday so that way pitch count will not be a factor and just maybe Shildt will leave him in there to finish it out.
Perhaps moving Yadi up to bat 2nd maybe a possibility. I don’t see Shildt doing that but I think it would work and have Edman leadoff.
The big question heading into Game 5 is not if the pitchers will be nervous because for each it will be their first deciding game so you’d expect the nerves to be plenty but which one will battle through those nerves the best and send their team to the NLCS?
Right now the game is scheduled for a 5 est, and correct me if I’m wrong but if the Dodgers close out the series tonight I believe it would be scheduled for a 7 or 8 est start.
Phew
Looking for a Walk Off Now Game5
Miko in. We got Wong-Goldy-Ozuna due up in the 10th for the cardiac Cards.
What are the odds of a 1-2-3 9th by Cmart and then a walk off by DeJong?
