Ratsbuddy…Yep, it’ll probably boil down to the last game of the regular season, but that’s okay. The Redbirds seem to always play their best baseball in the post season when their backs have been up against the wall for the last week or two of the regular season. Witness ’06 and ’11. Pressure you say…what’s that?

August 14, 2022 at 4:17 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195568Easy to lose sight of this after the tie breaking tater by Carlson and the 3 run bomb by the great Pujols, but this weekend featured 3 incredibly outstanding turns from the rotation and let’s face it, the 5 man is the key, like always, to the promised land.
GO REDBIRDS!

August 14, 2022 at 3:33 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195544I have absolutely nothing tangible to base this on, but I’ve always thought that if Albert would have remained a Cardinal, he would have featured 4 or 5 more seasons of the all time great player we saw for 11 years in St. Louis. He was meant to be a St. Louis, Cardinal.
August 14, 2022 at 3:24 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #19553582Willie…He keeps ripping it like this and he may have to take another farewell tour in ’23…

August 14, 2022 at 3:03 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195520Double, SB, IF hit. It may be a good thing to put that in front of the big kids that carry the big bats.
August 14, 2022 at 2:39 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195508TO with the solo tater to tie the ballgame!
August 14, 2022 at 2:30 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195503CardFrance…The only guy they’ve found is Eddie. He’s 7th in the NL in runs scored with 71. He needs to work his way back into the lead-off slot where he belongs. I think he will.
August 14, 2022 at 1:51 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195490Double, SB, runner @3rd 1 out, K,K…Not too good.
August 14, 2022 at 1:46 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195488Eddie! That’s the guy I know.
August 14, 2022 at 1:45 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195487That was an ’06 tater by the great Pujols!
August 14, 2022 at 1:44 pm in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #19548682Willie…I’ve heard it said that it’s pointless to look at standings until the last half of August. Probably a sound approach, but I don’t possess enough self control to adhere to that doctrine.
Nice! “2 Goldilocks and the 7 dwarfs”…I’ll also say that one of my favorite Cardinals, Eddie, is certainly not getting the job done. At some point soon, he has to amp up his offensive contribution or I may have to concede that I was wrong about him and that he may be no more than a valuable utility guy.
Practical experience has conditioned me to not worry about contracts, trades, etc. and simply enjoy watching talented players feature their skills while they’re here and in a Cardinal uniform, because just like the outcome of any particular ballgame, you never really know what’s going to happen next. I’ll continue to reserve my worry to the next pitch in a tight and close ballgame. That’s plenty stressful enough for me.
August 14, 2022 at 11:45 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195472From my standpoint, placing a make-believe, fairy tale baserunner at 2B in extras is a genuine irreverent sacrilege that is not at all unlike something conjured up by the whiz-kids who occupy the think tanks over at WWWF All-Star wrestling…I don’t feel the need to elaborate as to why. Every solitary so-called ‘baserunner’ that comes around to score as a result of this abhorrent rule should be directly charged to Rob Manfred’s ERA and his salary incrementally reduced in direct proportion to the ballooning of the runs that he has allowed. I think that any lawyer/business executive would undoubtedly view my idea as a fair and equitable one…Now that that’s off my chest, GO REDBIRDS!
August 14, 2022 at 9:52 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195464Thanks Pugs! Hope you enjoy the remainder of your trip and…GO REDBIRDS!
August 14, 2022 at 9:44 am in reply to: 2022 Cardinals MLB Game 114 thread – Sunday, August 14 vs. Brewers #195463BikeMike…Your last paragraph illustrates why I continue to be optimistic to enthusiastic about the ’22 edition looking forward to the last 50 games or so. Solid defense all around the playing field, the 5-man looks to have been bolstered and stabilized, and in my view, the Redbirds possess the two most productive bats in the entire Big Leagues at the corner IF positions that match up nicely with the two perennial GG’s. The BP is a bit of a question, but it’s certainly serviceable and well above the league avg. and has the potential to be very good when steered towards it’s strengths.
As for Maz, I saw 5 or 6 years of him at the end of his career. My dad would always rave about him and encourage me to keep an eye on him at 2B. I’d pay a bit of attention, but being 10 to 15 years old and seeing a .240 avg. 5 or 6 HR’s and a handful of RBI’s on the game scorecard quickly diverted my attention back to the guy standing out in RF. In any event, yeah, all the guys who followed baseball back then saw the tremendous value of a guy like Mazeroski. One guy who was way before my time that my old pops would constantly cite as the best ever was Marty Marion. When Ozzie came along, I can still hear him say during our many discussions on baseball was, “Ozzie’s good, but he’ll never hold a candle to Marty Marion”…He could sometimes be a stubborn son of gun.
