Nothing is a given. It is all about odds of success. Low odds teams find their way in now and then, but spending more increases the chances.
However, as has been said many times before, it isn’t just spending. It is spending wisely. The Mets are carrying something like $100 MM for players not on their roster, but they spent $300 MM total to buy their way around it. Few can do that.
October 15, 2024 at 12:37 pm #269773Warning. Unfortunately, threads here are limited to 100 pages. We are going to need new threads to cover the off-season. What would be some good categories to split the discussion up a bit rather than have everything together?

October 15, 2024 at 1:58 pm #269777I suggest carrying on with this thread and others will be created as circumstances arise.
October 15, 2024 at 2:20 pm #269778There’s no question that the best Cardinal player ever named Manny was Manny Motter. And that proclamation is entirely self evident when simply calculating the 20 or so times that Johnny saw fit to sign him on to another Redbird contract. The team simply couldn’t do without him for long. I’ll also say that our whiz-kid manager always found countless ingenious ways to insert the great Manny Motter into the Cardinal line-up game after game after antagonizing game…Let’s all observe a moment of silence in honor of the legendary Manny Motter!

The end of an era.

October 18, 2024 at 1:56 pm #269936Well this thread is about done and I think as a group we came up with the solution to fix the Cardinals. Four simple steps will take care of it:
1. New owner
2. New POBO
3. New field manager
4. Better playersAnd we might add a fifth step, which is optional but would be the icing on the cake: bring in a player named Manny. 🙂

jj-cf-stlParticipantOnly took 100 pages to get here!
October 24, 2024 at 5:29 am #270335So far it looks like more levels of FO bureaucracy to muddle things and coaches with seriously unispiring resumes. But its early, the off season is a marathon.
October 24, 2024 at 6:08 am #270336Perhaps we could trade Jordan Walker to the Dodgers for Tommy Edman!
