An idea for a corner OF stop gap until Báez is ready:
1) Right hand hitter
2) Good defensively in the OF
3) Decent power
4) Likely 1yr/5m would get himMr. Grichuk
November 26, 2025 at 10:34 am #296531Grichuk’s defense has fallen off a cliff the last few years, he’s best as a platoon DH.
November 26, 2025 at 10:40 am #296532Adolis Garcia would be another option for a stopgap.
November 26, 2025 at 2:42 pm #296553Good call GScott, someone like that is the likely scenario. But anything over -1.7 War is an improvement. I’ll go to the cages later and see what I have left! I’ll sign for 1/$800k 😂
November 26, 2025 at 4:02 pm #296555I just saw Cody Ponces number last year. Wow, he would be a great signing. Wonder what kind of $$$ are needed?

stlcard25ParticipantDylan Cease to the Jays, 7 years and $210M. They are certainly looking to be a contender again next year.

MrperkinsParticipantSean Newcombe could be an interesting signing. MLB trade rumors says he is getting looked at as a starter but he was very dependable in relief last year.
November 27, 2025 at 7:20 am #296579C27, I’ve seen 3/24 for Ponce. He is what they need and that’s better than reasonable.
November 27, 2025 at 8:56 am #296592I could be wrong but I don’t see the Cardinals doing any deals this winter for longer than one year. I see them signing a few vets that they can flip at the deadline.
November 28, 2025 at 12:44 pm #296649GScott, I do not see them doing a two year deal, but a 1 or 3 with an option I do.
November 28, 2025 at 1:58 pm #296656I suppose that is possible if they find someone who they feel will be part of the next core to contend.
November 28, 2025 at 4:24 pm #296662You listen to Ranger people describing the frustration of watching Garcia fail makes me wonder why we want any of that. Look for the 28 year old who battled some isolated yet serious injury aka Ryan Ludwick. Pass on everyone coming down the mountain.
November 28, 2025 at 4:27 pm #296663If you simply want a right-handed hitting outfielder who plays center poorly, Dylan Carlson is priced perfectly.
November 28, 2025 at 6:20 pm #296664They have to many light hitting CFers as it is. I’ll take any RHH RFer, with a .220 BA, over .300 OBP and HRs in the 20’s. That’s shockingly hard to come by it appears.

Why pay someone to make the team worse?
November 28, 2025 at 8:31 pm #296670LA, he was 1 WAR better than Walker in 2025. Hah, does that make him worth 9M?
November 28, 2025 at 8:46 pm #296672Friday night poll on what happens 1-5:
1) Bregman signs
2) Suarez signs
3) The CI from Japan sign
4) Arenado trade
5) Donovan tradeAll will happen I’d put $ on, I do not believe Nado will be traded before Bregman is off the board which slows down the Cards offseason plans. A Donnie trade is likely not as disturbed by Bregman and Suarez.
November 28, 2025 at 9:54 pm #296673LA, he was 1 WAR better than Walker in 2025.
I wonder if DeWitt is ever going to realize his club began spiraling when he was too cheap to pay $5-10 million for a stopgap right fielder and instead rushed a prospect from AA so he wouldn’t have to spend a few million dollars extra?
November 28, 2025 at 10:00 pm #296674I do not believe Nado will be traded before Bregman is off the board which slows down the Cards offseason plans.
The clubs in the market for Bregman are not considering Arenado a fallback.
Bregman is a signing you do because you are trying to win in 2026.
Arenado is a trade you make because he is a cheap stopgap (which means the Cardinals have to pay down his salary).
November 29, 2025 at 9:41 am #296682LA, I don’t agree with that at all. Is Nado a 1st choice, clearly not. A team in need of a breathing body that can at least be good or great defensively is a “fallback” option for those that miss out.
There is one Bregman and one Suarez. Then it seems there is a paid down Arenado…. He’s option #3 and a shorter long term commitment.

jj-cf-stlParticipantGray made Fitts available. FA SP signings will help unlock tradable depth we could be targeting in return for Donny.
November 29, 2025 at 2:13 pm #296701I’m upping my Ponce offer, 3 years 27M, 3M buyout or $15M 2029 team option.
They need innings to not be forced to rush kids.
What happened to Curtis Taylor as a side note?
November 29, 2025 at 2:37 pm #296704Curtis Taylor departed as a free agent.
I’ve seen some odd speculation on social media that Arenado could be DFAed, then released. Why would they do that now instead of waiting for a trade market to potentially develop? They wouldn’t save any money doing it now vs. in the spring. As noted, Arenado isn’t the market’s top priority at third base, especially now. Not to mention the fact that Bloom wrote this off as “Not an option.”
November 29, 2025 at 5:11 pm #296710What would the org do if NA said I am not waiving my NTC, period, end of discussion?
November 29, 2025 at 5:48 pm #296713There is one Bregman and one Suarez. Then it seems there is a paid down Arenado…. He’s option #3 and a shorter long term commitment.
For at least two teams (Mariners & Red Sox), Brendan Donovan is most likely their #1 option.
In terms of free agents, yes, it’s Bregman #1. But Suarez likely won’t be an option for the Red Sox due to defensive limitations (see Rafael Devers). So, they probably have Murakami ahead of Suarez, and today it was mentioned that they are looking at Jorge Polanco as an option at third.
In other words, there are probably five players ahead of Arenado on teams’ wishlist this offseason.
