Did it surprise you Noot led Contreras in PA’s the last two seasons? It surprised me. Noot was 6th in PA’s last season, 4th in 2023 for us.

I am comparing Noot to the league instead of our own players. Being the best of a sorry group is not an accomplishment, which is where the phrase “two times zero is stil zero” comes from.

Yep, like being the best of the poor clubs. Noot is our MIL/CLE/TB prototype.

I heard brush rattle behind us GS. It may be LACF stayin’ close for a field production discussion of Noot within mlb. Stick with the injury theme bud.

    LOL. That’s funny jj.

What if I take the discussion in this direction?

Current OF: Donovan, Nootbaar, Burleson (who should not be in the OF), Walker, Siani
Projected OF after trade of Arenado: Nootbaar, Burleson, Walker, Siani, Koperniak
Ourfield if you trade Nootbaar: Burleson, Walker, Siani, Koperniak, Antico

I hope Noot proves me wrong and puts up a 3.0 WAR season in 2025 then gets a 5 year extension but for now you have the Cards offering him $2.45M instead of his requested $2.95M. He still has to prove himself.

LA, I am guessing that Burly only gets into the OF discussion if Noot is traded. Otherwise he is probably sharing 1B/DH with Contreras.

And if Noot is traded then Burly represents $2M in savings for LF in the eyes of ownership. That may sound silly but they seem desperate to cut more payroll.

Mo was quoted this week that he wants to add a veteran RH bat for the OF. Tommy Pham is available! 😉

They don’t “desparately” need to cut more payroll. They are still getting 75% of their local TV revenue, plus all their MLB revenue.

The only thing that is really going to hurt this year is the attendance decline, and that is their own doing.

If they were desparate to move payroll, they’d look up the definition of sunk cost and start moving their high-priced guys on expiring deals.

Randall Grichuk is too, and he’s the perfect platoon partner with Jordan Walker…

I haven’t seen anything where they are limiting Burleson to 1B/DH.

Their track record says that even if that is their plan, they will not stick to it.

    Re: desperate to cut payroll

I’d GUESS Cardinal fans would rather watch McGreevey and Matthews in the rotation, than Fedde and Matz.

If they have to pay for Nado until the deadline, Fedde and Matz bundled in trade covers it financially, and likelier easier to move.

On a positive note, we just avoided two months of any Mo transactions.

It has been mentioned that the FO will add a RH bat and relief pitcher before the season starts.

CF could have used a rhb during 2024.
Another Middleton contract, as a setup reliever, during “play the youth”? Our guy knows his low hanging fruit.

    Sorry jj,

TexasCard wins the funniest comment of the day yesterday. Mainly because his comment was at your expense, not mine. 🙂

And just to be clear, my awarding TexasCard one win was totally unbiased, in the same sense that the scorers for WAR & DRS are totally unbiased.

CF could have used “any” bat.

    Siani
    vs RHP – 254 PA’s – .232/.277/.279/.556 slash line
    vs LHP – 110 PA’s – .192/.269/.255/.525 slash line

Grichuk, Bader, or Duvall make sense for the Cardinals.

Evidently the barrenness of youthful relievers at Mo’s disposal is so bad, that he is now entertaining paying market value for a bullpen arm. Stay tuned…

TC, hearing what our FO says is like reading the funny pages. A new script every episode!
