Posting a counterpoint view has never been discouraged on this board. I have been liberal with my appreciation of both evaluators contributing to the TCN top Prospects list, the current one and last season’s lists, which I refer to when voting on the community list. It is great to have ready access to that level of expertise.
Blake thanks for discussing some of some factors that go into a professional evaluation. As we have seen so far with the TCN Top Prospect list, two worthy evaluators can sometimes differ quite a bit, so it is very interesting. But on this one, my thinking alignes more closely with Brian’s, as I have them ranked right near each other, essentially a tie.

‘Best defensive catcher in the system’. Added to 40 man roster, and likely to be called up if injury to Contreras or Herrera. Hits LH pitching well, hitting against RH pitching is improving. 16 HR in 2023. .805 OPS for 2023. Possibly the only position player in the system with a serious chance of being called up. Only 27 players ranked higher than Pages.
His ranking by TCN is in alignment with the TCN community and the MLB Top 30. Pages defense is said to be the best in the Cardinals’ system. Bottom line….. I miss Yadi.
I feel like Pages is overrated due to him being added to the 40 man roster. He repeated AA, and had wildly varying months at the plate. I like Bernal as a catching prospect much better. He has a much longer runway.
I get that Pages deserves to be ranked decently, but he should get an asterisk or something, because it doesn’t matter. He is 25 and there is little chance of anything besides injury fill in duty for years. If he hits .300 in Memphis, then he might bump Herrera in a couple years to save on arb salary, but I don’t think that is realistic. I don’t know how good Bernal actually is, but the time line works better for him.

I think that the 1-18 are pretty well set… we just don’t know where those players will land on this list.
Svanson to me, is the best relief prospect we have. And while I like Nunez, Granillo is neck and neck with Edwin. All 3 sure look to have an MLB future. But the best news is with the relievers added they don’t have to be rushed.
I’d go Granillo then Nunez then Fernandez and then Svanson. All 4 could be effective. And they are all well above other relievers in the system (although some of our starters could become relievers and usurp them). But that’s the order of my confidence level that each will make it and be effective. It’s very likely Fernandez gets the first shot with his Rule 5 status.
