What does Joe care? He is unemployed as of Monday anyway.
Sounds like he doesn’t care for the Crew though.
September 26, 2019 at 10:53 pm #108700Well now…. seeing that the Brewers beat the Cubs at Wrigley last year to go to postseason….
Maybe the Cubs hate the Brewers enough to let us sweep… just to spite the Brewers for last year. But we can’t bet on that… we have to win win win!!!
September 26, 2019 at 11:04 pm #108701I’d be happy if the Brewers run their win streak to 14 (sweeping the Dodgers), as long as we sweep the Cubs this weekend, all things considered. But I’d be happier if they lose one of the first two games so we can rest Flaherty on Sunday.
September 27, 2019 at 11:35 am #108754Here’s what I see happening that determines when Flaherty pitches next.
Clinch Saturday or Tied: Micholas pitches and save Flaherty for A 1 game playoff against Milwaukee, Wildcard, Game 1 against Atlanta. If we’re 1GB: Flaherty starts.
The reason I wouldn’t start Flaherty if we were tied heading into Sunday is his recent lack of run support lately. Id rather save him for a win or out game than have a scenario where we use him Sunday..he’s dominant, No run support and our bullpen gives up a 1 run lead…
September 27, 2019 at 11:42 am #108758I’ll miss most of this game tonight. I will be down in Jasper for the Princeton Tigers at Jasper Wildcats football game. But I’ll be checking the score tonight as the game unfolds.
For din-din today its a center cut rib chop in the air fryer, mashed potatoes/gravy, a piece of cherry pie, and a chocolate shake. For my late snack tonight whilst I watch the Dodgers/Giants I will bring home a Double Whopper from Burger King. Whitey Herdog will probably get a bite or two of that one.

September 27, 2019 at 12:02 pm #108765I love that upstart Tigers squad out of Princeton to upend Jasper this evening by 8 points. Sweet din-din plans Rat…..but give that faithful pooch of your’s her own double whopper this evening…..minus the pickles, but heavy on the onion.
September 27, 2019 at 12:25 pm #108767I’m hoping the extra day of rest for our starters and the atmosphere of Busch stadium will be the spark we need to get our offense going. A 2 or 3 run lead early for Hudson would be nice. I wonder if they’ll turn the scoreboard off tonight?
September 27, 2019 at 12:58 pm #108768Whomever takes the field for the Cubs will be trying to win, period. Nobody “lays down” sans the ’19 Black Sox. Of course there’s always the human tendency of letting ones mind drift and missing a play.
A team with nothing but pride at stake is subject to that drift. The Cards will be focused to a man.
September 27, 2019 at 1:18 pm #108769Tough to imagine we beat the Cubs seven straight, which it would be with a sweep. But I would love to see it happen.
I could make a 10 mile trip and check out the Crew live and in-person vs the Rox, and be a loyal home-town rooter. We’ll see. If we are tied in the standings tomorrow, I may just do that. Maybe it will give us the extra edge we need to get that ultra-rare Brewer loss.
September 27, 2019 at 1:20 pm #108770Agreed Carter. Maddon is not sitting his starters to help the Cardinals out because of what the brewers did last year to the Cubs. And what a better stage for young Cubs players to show their worth and perhaps a mini audition for next spring than by coming up big against their biggest rival with the division on the line and a chance to be spoilers.

That’s the spirit, BikeMike!! Heckle those Brewers and knock em off their game, helping our Cards in the process. I’m sure some of our resident hecklers (Pugs, Rats) could give you some particularly pointed barbs that are sure to knock the Crew back on their heels!

Just 10 miles, huh? Will you ride your bike, Mike?

We will see what tonight’s Cubs lineup looks like soon, but yesterday’s had a distinct lack of “young, hungry Cubs”.
Tony Kemp .191 – journeyman
Happ .242 – kinda young
Robel Garcia .191 – 26 but inexperienced
Caratini .267 – veteran
Lucroy .213 – veteran journeyman
Bote .258 – utility guy
Russell .226 – no comment
Almora .238 – all glove, no hitI am NOT saying this lineup could not win MLB games. Just questioning the storyline of youth. If they have pride, which I expect they will, they will do their best. It should not be good enough to win, however.
September 27, 2019 at 2:11 pm #108775Whats the latest on Wong? Is he going to make it back by Sunday and be ready for the playoffs?
September 27, 2019 at 2:12 pm #108776
stlcard25ParticipantThat lineup is very similar to the one that Memphis took 5 of 8 against at the end of the AAA season. Needless to say, the Cards better take advantage.
September 27, 2019 at 2:25 pm #108777As Baez and Rizzo go, so goes their team. We need to go in for the kill with no mercy then dance around the dugout and bullpen like idiots after every score. Just sayin.
September 27, 2019 at 2:45 pm #108786NOT the Card way
September 27, 2019 at 2:57 pm #108787Well our lineup looks like the usual one. That’s ok. JMart has had enough ABs the past week that he seems to be able to hit again as ph if needed? Watched highlights on our last game and it was pretty good except for the pitching. Hope our bull pen guys can come out and throw strikes. No walks. Stay focused and don’t get caught up in the spin. Cubs are out largely because they’re hurt. Not playing with one arm behind their backs cause they feel sorry for us. Lets stay focused and see if we can win the division. Really don’t like our chances in a one game ‘sudden death’ wild card. Go Cardinals!
September 27, 2019 at 3:05 pm #108788We need to take advantage of RISP opportunities. Hopefully Hudson can go 7, and our bullpen gets the job done.
September 27, 2019 at 3:14 pm #108790Better than Thursday. Maddon loves attention.
1. Tony Kemp (L) CF
2. Nicholas Castellanos (R) RF
3. Ben Zobrist (S) 2B
4. Kyle Schwarber (L) LF
5. Willson Contreras (R) C
6. Ian Happ (S) 3B
7. Victor Caratini (S) 1B
8. Nico Hoerner (R) SS
9. Alec Mills (R) PSeptember 27, 2019 at 3:21 pm #108791Schwarber should be pitched around every time in an RBI situation. He’s just too dangerous
September 27, 2019 at 3:25 pm #108792Other than no Rizzo, Bryant, and Baez that is a decent enough lineup. And if I recall we had some trouble with Mills last week. We will need to bring our A game tonight.
September 27, 2019 at 3:28 pm #108793I’ll be watching bits and pieces of the game from my phone tonight. I should be able to catch tomorrow’s game in its entirety.
Is Rizzo, Bryant, Heyward, Baez, or Schwarber even available for pinch hitting duties because if so that worries me just as much as them being in the starting lineup

Bryant isn’t.
Per Maddon: “I don’t give a sh*t what Milwaukee thinks about my playing prospects in the next 3 games” He’s funny!
