Part of me wishes we were playing the brewers this weekend but I have a hunch we haven’t seen the last of them for 2019.
Was it 2017, that the Cubs celebrated a division title on our home field? It just seems something like that happened last year too.
uh oh. As the old saying goes: “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” It will truly be gut check time starting tomorrow. You know the Cubs will throw everything at the Cards to help bring them down. Snowing in the west may mean problems for the Brewers and Rockies but the Cards are responsible for themselves and to have this series at home should be HUGE. I really believe that 19 inning game took a lot of starch out of our bullpen and some of the players. Hopefully a night a home will help and it is good to know that some of our rookie callups can probably be trusted to contribute (Arozarena and Ravelo). I think Bader and Munoz have a competition to see who can swing at balls the most distance outside the strike zone.
As I have said before I was the guy who predicted in June that the Cards were toast and would not make the playoffs. But after that 4 game sweep in ChiTown, I pulled out a big old crow and cooked him medium well and then sliced off a small piece and ate it—-ugggh. I have taken my medicine so now those Cards gotta win the division as I have changed over to the winning side.
What are the possibilities: Win the division outright or wind up as a Wild Card in a one game playoff? With 3 games remaining the Brewers would have to win one more than the Cards to wind up in a tie. If that happens, does the title go to the one with the best head-to-head record? Too complicated for this old head to wrap around.

If there is a tie then game 163 would be at Busch on Monday.
If it ends up in a tie, a one game playoff would be played on Monday to determine the division winner. I believe it would never played at the home ball park of who won the season series. Off hand, I don’t know who that was
Here’s what needs to happen to have our next game played in Atlanta after Sunday.
1 Cards sweep.
2 Cards and Rockies win their series.
3 Cards win 1 game and Rockies take 2/3
4 Cards and Brewers both get swept.Anybody remember where last year’s game 163 was played? As a matter of fact I’d like to see the history of post season tie breaker games

In an ideal scenario, we can wrap up the division Saturday night but I don’t see that happening. I for-see the Cardinals taking a 1 game lead into Sunday with the division on the right arm of Waino.
It’s funny how baseball can work out at times. Both games on Sunday are scheduled to start at the same time. I wonder if they’ll turn the scoreboard off?Man, there is no stopping that Milwaukee club. They just may do the same thing this year as last – come back to tie for the division lead and force a playoff.
I cannot recall a hotter club in recent years coming down the stretch than this 2019 Milwaukee team.
They sure are, BicycleMike. Depending on how these final 3 games go, this Milwaukee fabulous flash to the finish just may have cost Shildt Mrg. of the Year honors.
Brewers are hot no doubt about it but other than us, the opposition for them hasn’t been great, playing the Pirates, reds, Rockies, and Padres. None of which are an above 500 team whereas in that time we have played 4 series against teams above 500. And if our bullpen was able to hold the lead, we would have won the series.

History says it’s a great strategy by Maddon because we haven’t faired well against Pitchers with little MLB experience.
Maddon is talking about his lineup. He already declared two of the starting pitchers. One is Hamels, who is very experienced. The other is Mills, who the Cards have already seen.
You cant blame Maddon for not playing Rizzo and Bryant. They are the stars of the Cubs and have years ahead of them. No reason to risk further injury. I know its something Milwaukee doesn’t like but to be quite honest about it – the Cubs have to do whats best for them.

Well said Rat. You know, as far as rivalries go, the Brewers have solidified themselves nicely as the #2 cubs rival. These two clubs legitimately despise each other….and it’s a beautiful thing. If it were Pittsburgh instead of Milwaukee who were were contending for the divisional title with this weekend, I bet more cub starters would be playing in St. Louis for these final 3 games. Succinctly put, the cubs hate both the Cards and the Crew with great passion…..so they will solely do what is best for their team.
