The Cubs are in the same spot as the Mets and Phils at this point, and the Brews are repeating their smokin’ finish of last year.
I’m not sure about the Cards, but it’s almost like watching a good team gif

    From Derrick Goold regarding Wong:

The Cardinals’ second baseman, who one teammate called the “MVP of the team” for his .342 average since the All-Star break and rise to No. 2 in the order, will have an MRI taken of his left hamstring Friday morning. The initial diagnosis is a mild tear of the muscle, though manager Mike Shildt acknowledged that could describe a spectrum of severities. He is not expected to play for several days as the team determines in the next 24 to 48 hours the extent of the injury. In his absence, the Cardinals intend to turn to rookie Tommy Edman, who scored twice Thursday, at second and likely return Carpenter to third, where he played before prolonged struggles put him on the bench this month.

Don’t mess around, MO’…..sit Wong ’till the playoffs. Just getting pull-happy Paul lowered in the lineup insures more runs and maybe wake the guy up.

I’m hoping today that CMart will not be used so he can get a day of rest. Wacha has been good of late so I see him going at least 5 if not 6, but any sign of trouble or were put in the position to have a chance to extend the lead early, I can see Schildt pulling him

I know I’m getting ahead of myself but as it stands right now, Flaherty would pitch the final game of the season and then pitch Game 2 against the Braves in the NLDS, but I’m wondering if we have wrapped up by next Sunday, if Schildt will elect to sit him and save him for game one with a few extra days of rest instead.

Whats the over/under on this thread having at least six (6) pages today?

Rats, I believe you meant to set an over/under of 6 pages for the game thread? I’ll take the under, since it’s a day affair. But it could be close.

I’d think in that case, Shildt would definitely give Flaherty the extra rest and have him available to pitch twice in the NLDS (Flaherty-Mikolas-Waino-Hudson-Flaherty). It would be a good problem to have!

Here’s to hoping Carp goes on a Wrigley field power surge. Maybe the rest from his benching gave him time to heal up.

Dave: …“but I’m wondering if we have wrapped up by next Sunday, if Schildt will elect to sit him and save him for game one with a few extra days of rest instead”

Considering his pitch count last night one day would be prudent, but no more. Remember when we had like an 8 game lead in the Westbrook era with only around 2 weeks to go and TLR went to 6 days rest? The starters went 1 for 9 and we didn’t clinch ’till the last Saturday of the season, and if memory serves the Dodgers squashed us in the NLCS.

In other words: keep the rhythm going.

Wacha wasn’t efficient in the first but he got the outs so that’s what matters. Scoreless innings, big fella.

OK, what’s the over/under on combined K’s on Carp, DeJong and Bader?

Edman’s error allows Schwarber to score after his double. 1-0. Now another hit. Wacha needs pulled here if he gives up another run.

Wacha and Wrigley is a bad mix. Wacha not missing any bats and not looking good.

Carter, not sure if it’s been mentioned to you yet, but your avatar blocks the beginning of all your posts on mobile so we can’t see what you are writing. I wonder if a couple of return/enters would clear things up?

Nice play by DeJong on the DP to limit the damage. Maybe Wacha will give a few more innings and the Cards’ bats can start making a dent on the fill-in the cubs trotted out to to the mound today. It’s frustrating to have an ineffective AAA guy come in a mow down/strikeout Cards batters like it’s the same as hitting the easy button.

____________Thanks, 25. What do you mean by “return/enters”?

____________Did the underlines push it over?
