That McFly guy whose tweet is above misses an important nuance in the Donovan situation. If the Cardinals won’t trade Donovan unless they get a superstar level prospect, it doesn’t mean the Cardinals think he is worth a superstar level prospect. It means they won’t trade him unless somebody else thinks he is worth a superstar level prospect.

February 1, 2026 at 9:55 pm #300117Who is Max on X?
February 2, 2026 at 7:47 am #300119I don’t know who he is, but he shared the TV clip of Dipoto from Mariners fan fest. Of course, the name of their acquisition target was not stated. Max assumed it to be Donovan. It may or may not be.

TRADE NEWS: The St. Louis Cardinals are close to finalizing a trade to send All-Star infielder Brendan Donovan to the Seattle Mariners, multiple sources tell The Athletic. A third team may be involved.

The Seattle Mariners are nearing a deal to acquire IF/OF Brendan Donovan from the St. Louis Cardinals as part of a three-way trade that also includes Tampa Bay, sources tell ESPN. A deal that had been considered for weeks would finally land Seattle a versatile impact bat.

February 2, 2026 at 3:34 pm #300152Wow, imwondering whomthevCardinalsvarevgetting? I can hope for Sloan, but I doubt it.
February 2, 2026 at 4:14 pm #300156Noot and Jo Jo are now on the clock.
February 2, 2026 at 4:24 pm #300158Supposedly the third team in the Donovan trade is the Rays, which means the Cardinals may be getting a prospect from the Mariners and a prospect for the Rays.
February 2, 2026 at 4:44 pm #300160Yes, the Rays were mentioned in the Passan tweet above. Only pieces are coming out slowly.
The Mariners are indeed getting Brendan Donovan from the Cardinals in a three-team trade that will include third baseman Ben Williamson going to the Rays and pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje going from Seattle to St. Louis, according to a source.

February 2, 2026 at 4:45 pm #300161Supposedly we are getting Cintje as one prospect. I hope we get more. Please end his switch pitching days.
February 2, 2026 at 4:47 pm #300163With Hjerpe and Cojntje we’ll corner the scrabble market on Js.
February 2, 2026 at 4:50 pm #300165I wad all for trading Donovan in the right package. I don’t know that this will be it. Jurrangelo Cijntje is very overrated in my eyes and why STL didn’t match well with SEA for this trade, I don’t like the prospects they’d be willing to part with. When I saw the Rays were involved I was very hopeful my Brody Hopkins prediction was going to happen, but doesn’t seem likely.

stlcard25ParticipantPoor GameCard. Hopefully Wetherholt will help him get over Donnie before long.
I really hope we get something good from these prospects we hope and dream on. Cijntje isn’t the most exciting, but probably ends up in least some sort of big league role.
February 2, 2026 at 4:55 pm #300168
jj-cf-stlParticipantTime to get Donny a ring. Make it happen SEA!

ParticipantSoppsebly also getting an outfielder tai peete, fairly young guy mariners drafted out of high school in 23.
February 2, 2026 at 5:12 pm #300173
jj-cf-stlParticipantThey haven’t said who TB traded.
February 2, 2026 at 5:13 pm #300174
jj-cf-stlParticipantWe are short a piece 🤞
February 2, 2026 at 5:15 pm #300175Once again we trade a main piece and get nothing in return.
Nothing.
Zilch.
February 2, 2026 at 5:18 pm #300176The Mariners are trading prized pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje and minor-league OF Tai Peete to St. Louis in the Brendan Donovan trade, as @RyanDivish and @A_Jude first reported. Third baseman Ben Williamson will be going to the Rays for a prospect and Comp B draft pick.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI don’t want to look at our budget total, the Pirates may have passed us for fourth in the Central. Bwahaha!
February 2, 2026 at 5:22 pm #300178It’s anticlimactic. Nothing left to do but hope our prospects do well in our re-tooled development system. It will take a couple years for us to be getting exited about these guys. Brian and Kyle will have plenty to do keeping us updated with the progress system wide. Good luck to Donny. He represented us well.
February 2, 2026 at 5:32 pm #300179Cardinals fans should rejoice! DeWallet is saving another $5 million!!!
Bring on the welfare!!!
February 2, 2026 at 5:35 pm #3001803 good prospects and a comp B pick. That’s definitely the haul we were looking for.
I love Donovan and feel like losing him is a huge blow. But if he’s going to go, this is the way to do it right.
