Former Cardinal Valera included in trade. If you want to get an idea of the Dodgers depth look at the other 4 in the Machado trade. Pretty good potential. Diaz is the only top 10 prospect, (#7).

To me the key to all of this is that it appears Machado is just a rental. Once Seager returns what do they do with Machado? Would he even consider resigning with the Dodgers? Where would he play? Could they move him or Seager over to 2ndbase? Would he consider that?

And its my understanding, with the luxury tax issue, that the Dodgers simply couldn’t afford to sign him.

Do the Redbirds make him an 8 year, $300M offer in the off-season?

I’m sure they’ll do whatever it takes to be the runner up, Rats. ?

It is a long ways off but my prediction is Machado signs his FA deal with the Phillies.

high quality at the top…and Diaz’s futures game looks like it left an impact

seems light to me…I think the Dodgers gave up little that they need and got a player that will push them to take their division

Yep, probably going to be Dodgers and Cubs in the NLCS for the third year in a row. Go LA.

Just back from Mars and the locals were overwhelmingly underwhelmed by Baltimore’s take in this fleecing. Not a single player was in LA’s top-30 list (MLB) at the beginning of the season. Duquette’s “offers” must have been spiraling downward for him to take this offer with the big part of 2 weeks left. He didn’t come close to acquiring an MLB-ready starter as was his rumored objective.

For that matter, Machado’s hitting metrics were not star-quality (.797 OPS) away from Camden Yard. In this, his best MLB season at the plate. Also, his defense has lacked “ept” at his chosen position of SS (-19 runs saved) in 2018. Maybe the Dodgers did get what they paid for…

Mars?! I’ve been wondering and wondering what happened to MagnoliaCardFan. Glad you’re back. BTW, did you happen to run into Elvis while you were three?

Baltimore had to get something for Machado, as the clock was ticking. But I agree that this scenario most likely plays out with Machado being a rental, and the Dodgers hoping to catch lightning in a bottle and get a championship.

Then Machado will move on next year. I doubt St. Louis is a realistic option from his viewpoint, nor do I think the Cardinals make a big offer. But a lot depends on how the remainder of the 2018 season plays out.

They’ll make a big offer, it will just be about $50 million short of what he signs for…

Dusting off the Machado thread, too.

Bowden has him getting 10 years, $310 million.

Best Fits (in his view): Phillies, Cardinals, Angels, Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Giants, White Sox, Rangers, Padres.

Machado’s production is phenomenal but getting him here still leaves us looking for a big lefty hitting bat. Gorman and switch-hitting Carlson are the only two prospects that fit that category.

I wouldn’t mind taking a shot at Machado. No he doesn’t hit LH but he would still look good in our lineup and the FO would have the benefit of punting on Fowler another year. I don’t get too wrapped up in the perceived attitude issues of Machado. Production is production.

“Perceived”? That is putting it gently. Sounds like a pitch from his agent. 😉

There might be some teams back off due to some of his behavior in the playoffs but in the end he will get paid. I don’t condone the stepping on other players ankles but we really don’t have any grounds about complaining about not running hard to first. Yadi has been jogging for years. Meh.

While the Phillies are the favorites for him the surprise team being mentioned is the White Sox. Apparently they are ready to make a big splash and steal some thunder from their big brother.

Molina did not tell national media (Ken Rosenthal) that “hustling is not my cup of tea”. He was not fined by MLB for intentionally trying to injure another player in the post-season. I do not know if it is arrogance, ignorance or an unhealthy portion of both, but for me, it does not matter. A team (other than the top few) that makes that kind of commitment is accepting Machado as the face of their franchise for the next decade. We will see how many titles his brand of leadership brings.

Don’t get me wrong – I’d love Machado on my fantasy team, but in real life, not a chance.

The first damage control attempt has been launched. MLB.com is about as safe of a spot to choose as there could be.

I didn’t see a link to any Machado threads and believe me, I looked for one. Just couldn’t find it. Thought I would post this. Looks like Machado might be going to the Yankees. And a Mod can feel free to move this to some other place if they feel its more appropriate.

After watching Machado grab, kick, and step on his opponents during the playoffs, perhaps the WWE would be interested in signing him?

I’m betting on the Phightin’ Phillies, though.

According to Nightengale, Machado has a $200 million-ish offer on the table from the Sox.
