Thinking about it a bit more…..I’m guessing Burleson stays in Memphis through the end of the year. I bet they’ll give Noot a run to see what he can do with regular playing time. His July was pretty darned strong. If you don’t bring Burleson up, he won’t need to be protected in the offseason, if I’m counting right. Dickerson had a good July, too, so is another option. And Yepez will be back at some point.
Oh the broadcast, they said Mo said Walker is now headed to the outfield. All three positions.

That was easy to predict. I figured LF or RF is where he ends up and it won’t be long before his shot with the big club comes along.
August 2, 2022 at 8:12 pm #193763I wonder how the rotation will go? Who is the odd man out? Pallante or Hudson? Quintana pitched Friday, so he could pitch as early as tomorrow. Montgomery pitched Sunday, so he would Fridays starter possibly.
August 2, 2022 at 8:43 pm #193772Kind of an odd trade from the Yankees perspective. Why would you trade your third or fourth best starter for a guy who may not even play again this year? Strange.

Bader has been generally better than people think…about 4.5 WAR/650 PA. He’s gonna be there next year and they have some rotation depth, and could lose an OF this off-season or two. So it makes some sense.
August 2, 2022 at 8:49 pm #193777I think Bader is a very good player but trading for an injured player doesn’t happen a lot. They are in win now mode. It is World Series or bust for that fan base. If they have another injury or two with their pitching staff things could get interesting. They already have Severino on the IL. Seems like a risk to me.
August 2, 2022 at 9:42 pm #193786Part of the NYY motivation…
The Yankees began today leading the majors in Defense Runs Saved. In that stat their biggest negative area was center field (minus-6). Bader won a Gold Glove in center last year.

August 2, 2022 at 10:31 pm #193787I guess the Yankees are banking that Bader’s speed won’t be effected from the injury when he returns. That’s not something I would bank on.
August 2, 2022 at 10:44 pm #193788I get that the Yankees think Bader is a good player. I think he is too. But what if he doesn’t make it back this season or is severely diminished? He can’t accumulate WAR and Defensive Runs Saved while sitting on the bench. The Yankees aren’t worried about 2023. They haven’t won a World Series since 2009, which makes that fan base restless.
August 2, 2022 at 11:00 pm #193789If Bader can stay on the field, he’ll become a rock star in New York.
August 3, 2022 at 12:43 am #193791To me he is a really streaky hitter who this year wasn’t drawing as many walks like he had in the past his OBP is down to .303 and his slugging % was way down this year….he is great defensively and covers a lot of ground but he and O’Neil seem to me to be really streaky hitters and not sure that is a great combo against quality pitching

ParticipantThis is like a dream come true for Bader. The stage he’s always wanted.
August 3, 2022 at 7:46 am #193808
stlcard25ParticipantSo this sets up the 2023 rotation as:
RHP Mikolas
LHP Montgomery
RHP Hudson
LHP Matz
RHP FlahertyThat leaves room for Waino to retire or return, and also leaves us without the absolute need for Liberatore or Thompson to be in the rotation. I’ll be curious if the Cards think they need another top of the rotation guy or not. I wouldn’t mind a trade for someone like Aaron Nola to front the rotation, and especially if Waino retires.
August 3, 2022 at 10:40 am #193832so…who plays CF now when Carlson pulls a hammy playing a new position for so long? Noot? really?
So who is the CF offseason guy we are going to acquire to make any of this make sense?
Also, i really hate this media blitz hype after the deadline on Walker playing outfield…AND ALL THREE at that! BS
He shouldnt see StL until September 23 at best otherwise we are just rushing him to cover poor moves
August 3, 2022 at 10:59 am #193834Carlson pulling a hammy worries you? I guess Bader plantar fasciitis was not a concern? Montgomery is solid starter. I am not saying they did a good job during the trade deadline but Montgomery for Bader is a fair trade that helps this and next year.
August 3, 2022 at 11:10 am #193835I could care less whether it is fair or not, it isn’t smart when you have no plan B for CF
had they also acquire a cheap veteran CF or similar player like Laureano from the As just to be safe that would be different
Bader’s foot is an issue but one that is temporary and obviously a high chance of contribution this year otherwise the deal would not have happened
Also…Carlson is no model for not getting hurt and having nagging injuries
Carlson in CF for a while is fine, even if he goes down a short stint of someone out of position is fine
This move without a corresponding move is so dangerous and extremely shortsighted
When we start an OF of Dickerson/Oneill Nootbaar Donovan/Yepez and all that mediocre pitching goes to waste because no one can play solid outfield defense and their offensive production is average at best as a whole
The move isnt bad in vacuum….this isn’t a vacuum and our outfield HEALTH and production have been pretty atrocious across the board this year…despite a few weeks of Carlson hitting ok
August 3, 2022 at 11:17 am #193836Here’s the link to an interview with Jordan Montgomery. He doesn’t exactly sound too enthused about leaving New York.
August 3, 2022 at 11:17 am #193837Nice answer, I guess you meant you couldn’t care less. For the Bader injury there is a chance we will need to send a player to the Yankees if Bader doesn’t come back this year, so is not temporary. Plantar fasciitis is rarely temporary and can negatively affect the rest of his career. Losing Bader is not dangerous it is the price of doing business.
August 3, 2022 at 11:34 am #193839YAY!!! A grammar police person!!! How great!!! I also didn’t and don’t spell everything right, use periods well or properly use ellipses and all sorts of other crap that doesn’t matter when writing a post seeing as understanding the content isn’t required as you seemed to understand it clearly.
Therefore as you DID understand the content…correcting it is only a means to try to try to disrespect and devalue the sentiment or argument through a means that has NOTHING to do with the argument.
as for your NON-insult driven content
A. you really think the Yankees take him on and lose Jordan as an option at the least for all this time if he isnt coming back.
B. IF he doesn’t come back then i have to imagine the prospect is no throw away no name…thus the price to “do business” may just be a bit higher than you think right now…so evaluating it as a “business” deal remains to be seen and therefore
C. That injury CAN be problematic…but there are plenty of players who return just fine…and again why would another team take that chance if it wasnt positive? Now why don’t you grow up and if you have a conversation instead of throwing insults as means to do so at the beset
I am done with you…respond if you want but I am done with you and won’t respond to you again
pathetic, keep your replies focused on baseball instead of using a message board as a means for creating a false sense of superiority over someone
People like you are why people DON’T engage in online conversations… i hope you feel superior because you can call someone out something innocuous and if you want to know the truth… BOTH are correct, unless you are writing FORMALLY…which an online message board is definitely not AND by my means of other incorrect informal phrasing and structure would indicate

Sorry Brian
August 3, 2022 at 11:39 am #193840I posted this in the wrong thread earlier.
From Jon Heyman:
The Yankees were doing their logical best until a head-scratching last day, when they flirted with big pitching moves (Pablo Lopez) before making the odd call to send reliable starter Jordan Montgomery to St. Louis for Harrison Bader, a center fielder with flash and flair who can fly, but is for now tethered to the bench due to plantar fasciitis.
The Yankees love having a top-tier center fielder, and it doesn’t hurt he’s an outwardly confident kid with a New York background, ensuring no repeat of the Gallo debacle. Of course, that great fielding acumen would mean more if he were actually available to play.

ParticipantIf Carlson goes down, Ben DeLuzio can fill in nicely.
August 3, 2022 at 11:47 am #193842People like me? Sir you don’t know me. BTW calling someone pathetic is an insult. I will sad for the rest of my life because you won’t answer me.
August 3, 2022 at 12:04 pm #193845Ben DeLuzio can fill in nicely
I hope we don’t have to rely on that. I think others, Nootbaar or O’Neill maybe even Edman, would play CF first and fill the corner with Yepez or Burleson.
August 3, 2022 at 12:10 pm #193846bccran
ParticipantBen Deluzio has been flying under the radar, but is doing a nice job at Memphis this season leading of and playing CF – .285/.368/.453/.821. He has 6 triples, 9 home runs, and 29 stolen bases (out of 32 attempts). 1 error in CF all season.
August 3, 2022 at 12:23 pm #193847Please do not engage in personal insults jager.
As for center field, O’Neill can cover if needed, although he has his own injury issues this year. I think a Noot is capable as well. In an emergency I suppose you could plug Edman out there. But I don’t think there is a great concern as there are guys who can play there other than DC.
With Montgomery on board that gives us two “Jordan’s” on the pitching staff. That might be a first in baseball.
Can’t blame Montgomery for not wanting to leave the Pinstripes. They have a great team this year. And what player would not want to be part of a Yankees pennant? No matter what team you root for, there is something special about that franchise.
