Most of us wish him well in New York. A great opportunity for him
to play for the Yankees, his favorite team growing up. His favorite player was Roger Maris.
He’ll have to get to the barber though because of the Yankee’s appearance requirements. And if he bat flips and show boats up there but doesn’t produce a decent line, he’ll be booed out of Yankee Stadium. They’re a lot less tolerant than St. Louis fans. But if he does produce, he’ll be the new darling on his dream team.

I was neutral regarding Bader but at times he took it a bit too far with the antics. On the other hand as much as I appreciate how good Goldy is at times he looks like a robot. So I guess to each his own.

Goldy is professional in everything he does both on and off the field.
    Humble man.

Not saying he isn’t. Just his demeanor seems too stiff. Like I said to each his own.

Most of the Cards are laid back and professional – Carlson, Edman, O’Neill, Waino, Miles, Hudson, Helsley, etc.

No such thing as professional. It’s a made up word in how it’s being used here.

Wrong, Willie. It’s a word that’s been used to describe baseball players for generations. Guys who go about their business the correct way. In a professional manner.

Wrong bccran, there is no correct way.just a another form of predjucism and a excused way of being disrespectful to people. Something old and out of date at this time

Some things are never old and out of date, Willie. Like being courteous. Or bringing honorable. Or being forthright. Or a professional athlete handling handling themself in a professional manner. No show boating. No patting themself on the back. No putting other people down.
No mouthing off. Just acting like they know what they’re doing and have been there before. Acting like it’s no big deal, when it is a big deal.

You don’t have to agree, willie. We’re all equally entitled to our opinions and they way we feel about things.

Bc, I can’t recall Bader crossing the line on any of that unless it is his celebrations. If so, there are a lot of guys who you would consider “professional” who celebrate. If Bader’s catches where sometimes showboating then Edmonds showboated, too.

Bccran, difference is I’m a good guy who doesn’t put people or players down for being themselves. I could just as easily put goldy down for being a stick in the mud every time I get the chance but I don’t. I let him be himself. If a player is being lazy or not giving full effort or doesn’t care about the game, yea fair to call out, other stuff not. Yea you have opinions but I have the right to call it out if it crosses a line. But you just go on being you and I’ll go on being me.

Cross the line? And say things about a player that others aren’t
saying? And also claiming that you’re a good guy and insinuating that I’m not?

CT isn’t a college debate format, willie. It’s just a discussion among Card fans. No more and no less. No sense in you putting another poster down. It’s out of line. Let’s just be congenial. Deal?

I look at players and posters to be same. I try not to put either down. The ball player isn’t here to defend himself. Like I said, you do you and say what you want, I will do the same. Far as others, my comments went to them as well. Baseball related stuff is fine. Their hair and mannerisms aren’t part of baseball. Would be the same if you said something about their skin color or background. I’ll stand up for the defenseless. But you don’t have bader here for you and other yahoos to kick around anymore, bccran. But I’m sure you will find someone else, bullies usually do. I’ll be here. Have a nice day

Sorry, Willie, but I’m not a bully.

Well I was bullied growing up and I know what a bully is. If what I called you makes you feel it’s unpleasant, then think about the stuff you say about others.

I’m not a bit offended by bccran, and really, by any other posters here. 1982willie started it by attacking bccran for no reason, and bccran prolonged it by responding to an irrelevant comment. You guys are ruining this thread. Please chill.

Well mudville you may not be but you can only speak for yourself far as being offended. This is a old argument between me and him. Easy way for it to stop. I’ll leave it at that.

Willie & Cranny. Honestly, are there two finer gentlemen and knowledgeable baseball people on the planet? If these two went to a neighborhood pub with each other, after a couple hours of libations, they’d have the entire joint singing “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire” with them.

It’s a tradition among baseball fans to call out players for various reasons. Brooklyn fans called the Dodgers “da bums”. Ty Cobb was called names because he slid in high with spikes flying. Mike Schmidt was booed in Philly. Cueto was called all sorts of names by Cardinal fans after the melee in Cincy. And, yes, Bader was called a show boat by a number of fans on different forums.

Has nothing to do with bullying or the character of fans. It’s just part of the baseball landscape from generation to generation among passionate fans.

Calling out a player (Bader) as some have done regularly, is ridiculous. It’s been going on here for years. Forum members that ridicule the players or coaches is the main reason I am here less. Why anyone would think it is appropriate, just because it is a “tradition”, is beyond me, in this world that’s needs improvement, not tradition. I can’t stand bullies. I can’t stand those that aren’t bullies, but exhibit bullying behavior and won’t own up to it.

And the worst of it: the carping about Bader’s hair still continues, along with left-handed compliments about his style etc.

A good rule of thumb: if someone wouldn’t make the comment in front of that person (Bader, Pham, LaRussa, whoever), don’t make it here.

Well bccran, go to those other forums if you like to do that sort of stuff. If it was just his supposed show boating maybe I give you a pass, though that’s more delusioned. But when you talk about people’s hair, no different than talking about skin color and other things. Stand by what I said about being a bully, you are even proud of it. The examples you mentioned are ludicrous. Ty Cobbs own fans had no issues with his play, cueto agaim the same thing, it wasn’t his fans, it was cardinal fans. Schmidt was booed, oh the horror. People shouldn’t have to defend the length of their hair, the color of their skin. You talk about things being part of the game, so is racism and prejudice. Goes way back. That stuff was wrong then, is wrong now. I was all set to move on this morning but here you are. For a player you don’t like, you spend a lot of time downgrading him. I would think people would rather spend their time talking about stuff they like. The only player the Cardinals have had that I had a real issue with was Fowler and that was over a financial and a hustle issue. But even then I didn’t spend a lot of time on threads about him. I got to get ready to go to the game so I’m moving on, not going to let negativety ruin my day. You have a nice day.
