Something odd about seeing Waino in this “Former Cardinals In The News” thread. Seems like only yesterday when he was getting shelled…..(cough cough)….pardon me….seems like just yesterday when he was taking the hill every 5 days. I bet Waino will do fantastic as an analyst. But so much for spending more time with the family in retirement. Between his new job with FOX and most likely a country, if not a world tour, on the horizon with his band, Waino’s children will be lucky to get tucked into bed by dad for maybe once or twice a month. Seriously though, for some, traveling really gets into your blood, making it very difficult to stay home every night. Hopefully Mrs. Wainwright is prepared for this, as Waino may not settle down at the homestead until he’s 70…..maybe 80 years old. And for some marriages, this sort of separation is the key for a long happy relationship.

Good point, Pugs. But also remember that most of FOX’s games are on Saturdays, though there are other days sprinkled in. They already said he will be covering the London games, and it would be even better if he was assigned the All-Star Game, too. He’s already done the post-season, so I bet he will do that again, too.

Matt Carpenter is back. Ugh. Time for a change for me. This team has annoyed me enough.

League minimum. He is simply a scratcher ticket.

He is not needed. Even at league minimum. He is done.

I remember seeing some article mentioning how the Cardinals could sign Carpenter and the author thinking that was a good move. At the time I thought there is zero reason (other than nostalgia) why the Cardinals would ever sign Carpenter. He doesn’t fit on this team at all in any way. And yet today he is a signed Cardinal. Sigh. I sure hope he signed for unlimited in-game peanuts and Cracker Jack because I don’t see how he makes it through a whole season and no need to pay him for not playing.

Yep, I agree with the sentiment expressed so far in that I do not see any reason to bring in MCarp other than some sort of nostalgic honor. He is of no use defensively and why would he be a lefty DH ahead of Burleson?

A weird transaction, but this club has made weird transactions the norm this off season.

Maybe they want to do another puppy give away.

I guess this is Mo’s solution to the Winn backup dilemma.

    What a garbage signing!

Idk maybe they do plan on dealing Burleson for some back end junkballer for the pen? Only reason I see for it.

Mo was on Amazon and pressed the wrong “buy” button. Actually I won’t mind seeing him around.

This front office is such a joke you can’t even take them seriously with the stupid stuff they do…..what a waste of a roster space.

If you factor the huge wave of prospects coming on, then it looks silly. Yet…that same huge wave could force some trades. This signing looks different if Baker and Burleson headed out in a deal.

Yeah, clocking in a approximately 10% of the population their relative scarcity gives them more rope for sure.

I hope Cody McKay is doing well. His Dad, Dave McKay, was La Russas’ first base coach in 2004 when Cody got called up.
La Russa kept Cody around long enough for him to collect the Major League minimum for the year which was, I believe, around $300K. Then, a young rookie by the name of Yadier Molina was brought up for a look. The rest is Cardinals baseball history.

I remember he was a Mitchel report guy. Don’t remember the particulars.

I never thought about The Mitchel Report before. But here it is:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_players_named_in_the_Mitchell_Report

If Cody McKay did use PED’s, and that’s questionable given his performance, PED’s didn’t give him any traction at the Major League level.

I don’t know, I just remember him being one of the names. Same as whenever I hear Ryan Franklin’s name.
