James Loney was the guy.
Guy failed in the KBO.

February 20, 2019 at 2:06 am #82275I just noticed there is an ex-Cards farmhand on the Phillies 25-man roster, Edubray Ramos. I hadn’t seen his name posted in the forum before but he pitched in 2010 for the Cards’ Venezuelan Summer League team. He put up some rather ‘bleh’ numbers but he was only 17 at the time. 9 years later he has blossomed into a nice bullpen pitcher and was one of the best arms out of the Phillies bullpen with 2.32 ERA in 52 games (42.2 IP). Would’ve been good to have him in game than Holland, Cecil, Lyons, and Gregerson.
February 23, 2019 at 12:55 pm #82612Cool to see on @FSMidwest that video clip of the @memphisredbirds celebrating the 2018 Triple-A National Championship. Edward Mujica, who held up the trophy, was the veteran leader of that club. The #stlcards former closer signed with Yucatan of the Mexican League for 2019. pic.twitter.com/wsLsSkaRsp

February 28, 2019 at 9:06 am #83006Rick Ankiel played catch for first time yesterday. Eyeing June readiness for competition. He did not sign up with Fox Sports Midwest so he could “give this comeback thing a try.” As previously reported @stltoday, he’s going to sign with #cardinals if/once healthy.

February 28, 2019 at 4:34 pm #83089The union might want to rethink their demand of no trades after the all star break. Teams signing players with the idea of flipping them at the deadline is keeping a lot of their members employed!

March 1, 2019 at 7:03 pm #83145Bud Norris’ contract is only a MiLB contract. Surely other can agree with me that doesn’t make sense. He was good enough last year to get a major league contract.
March 1, 2019 at 7:29 pm #83148he gets 3 million for making the team and he can earn another 1.25 million in incentives if he mkes the club. Apparently Bud had 3 offers and didn’t like any of them. Maybe this was the best bad offer?
Also his deal has an opt out on March 21st.
You think he’d make the club but yeah it’s kind of odd this is a minor league deal with a high dollar value if he makes the team. I think he’s banking on his ability even if it was on a minors pact.
March 1, 2019 at 7:31 pm #83149Teams don’t want to give up a 40-man spot until they are sure the guy can contribute.
March 1, 2019 at 9:59 pm #83157Or they’ve got three players healing from injuries and don’t yet know which player will heal most slowly. That could be us.

If only Mo would also follow this philosophy perhaps the Cardinals wouldn’t have given out some stupid contracts the past few years.
March 15, 2019 at 3:41 pm #83982Good to catch up with Tyler Greene…he's at the game tonight, now works as a pro scout for the Yankees. #STLCards

How do more non-roster camp invitees stop bad long-term contracts? Besides, the Cards do follow this philosophy. That is the way both Pena and Wieters were signed this off-season.
But then, I don’t think you really wanted a serious answer, did you? 😉
March 22, 2019 at 12:30 pm #84458#Padres released Allen Craig, per MILB transactions. Might be the end of the road for him.
— Kevin Charity (@madfriarskevin) March 20, 2019
March 22, 2019 at 1:24 pm #84460That will be the end for him likely. I think he wanted to have an opportunity to play for the Padres seeing as he grew up about an hour or so from San Diego.
Walk em all Sam Freeman has been released. Braves paid him 169K for 45 days of work. He’ll latch on somewhere.
March 22, 2019 at 1:56 pm #84464Father Time remains undefeated. Craig turns 35 this summer and Freeman will celebrate his 32nd birthday.
March 24, 2019 at 8:21 pm #84595Greg Holland has been announced as the closer for D’Backs.
Peter Borjous entered in the game for an injured BJ Upton tonight.
